Here is part 2 of the Osaka Food Guide Tour in Dotonbori video!
If you visit Osaka, then you must check out the Dotonbori area in Namba for delicious Japanese food and street food!!
Dotonbori is filled with Kansai classics like takoyaki(octopus balls), okonomiyaki(Japanese savoury pancake), kushi-katsu(deep fried skewers), yakisoba(fried noodles) and much more.
In this video, I visited Dotonbori and the locals showed me some of their recommended restaurants and shops in the Dotonbori Namba area.
The shops I visited were:
Gourmet Map Information
Staff help you pick a shop to your preference and then guide you to it all for FREE! Really friendly and helpful people :)
They can speak a bit of English too so try talking to a local and try the shops off the main Dotonbori street!
Katsuhiro (Kushikatsu shop)
Tell Uchinaka-san you saw him in my video and talk to him! He's really kind and makes delicious kushikatsu that aren't too oily!
-Juza (Yakisoba shop)
The guys here are so welcoming and funny! & I loved the noodles and flavour of the yakisoba fried noodles! I'm feeling like some now hehe.
P.s Hide-san the shop manager is quite good at English - tell them I said hi if you go :D
Talking to the locals in a new country is always so fun and you can learn a lot about their culture just from talking to them so step out of your comfort zone and make some new friends here on Dotonbori street!! ^^
Osaka people are also really friendly so it's a shame if you don't speak to the locals here. No matter what your Japanese level is, zero or pro, you have no excuse :D It's not all about language sometimes!

Also Osaka has been in my mind as a destination in Japan, that for what ever reason, I have missed. Thanks to your video I am sold on Osaka, the food and especially the people. I definitely prefer thick noodles over thin ones. It's almost like they feel more hearty or filling. Like you're eating a proper meal as opposed to the thin noodles that are less satisfying. Udon is one of my favourite thick noodles. I went to an udon place in Tokyo with my friends and they were laughing at me because I was struggling to eat them with my chopsticks. Also I'm lousy at sucking up the noodles loudly as is the custom. It was good fun though!
@internationallyME
@internationallyME 7 лет назад
Haha thanks for sharing your experience with me xD I remember when I first came to Japan, I could just not get use to making that slurping sound when you ate your ramen! I like udon too but I like hand-made ramen noodles more!

There were so many vegetables to get as skewers as well :) I'm vegetarian so I would really like a video trying to get by as a vegetarian or something in Japan for one day or one night out! I bet there would be others interested in this as well. anyways I really enjoy your filming and editing style! I would recommend to get something to stabilise shots while walking though... they sometimes turn out a bit too shaky but nonetheless great video!

Many years ago I visited Yokohama and Kobe. I was young and was very nervous about going out by myself. I never knew what there was to see. Anthony Bourdain (RIP) shows showed me another side of Japan besides Seamans Clubs. I want to see The Hanshin Tigers play baseball. I want to eat Takoyaki. I already love sushi, I want to try it in Japan. I want to visit the north. I want to be there when the Cherry Blossoms bloom, the fragrance must be intoxicating. Maybe one day I can sit in the Northern forest and absorb what the forest releases.

Everything looks so delicious! I want to try it when I will come to Japan. Maybe one day with an exchange with my university. I also like the thicker noodles better in Ramen. I am hungry now :D I did Yakisoba some years ago by myself, it was very tasty but I never tried it at a resterant before. I think we don't have something like this. Only in Düsseldorf there are many japanese foods, especially Ramen and Sushi. But there are also some japanese restaurants that offer Tonkatsu or fried fish as lunch. There is also a restaurant that only makes small grilled spits (don't know the name) but this food bar is veeery expensive. I hope japanese foods gets more popular, so I can try it also in my country (:

Thick noodles with food you have to chew. Thin noodles when it's liquid and you can just swallow. Interesting that the sign in the first shop also had the French translation on the dipping sign. The words in the sentence are in completely the wrong order but a French person would understand what it says. And "source" should be "sauce" off course. Writing it as source makes it sound like a joke about the Japanese stereotype how they would pronounce sauce. Which languages do Japanese children learn Angela? As a Belgian I learned Dutch, French, German and English which are all in the basic curriculum for children below 18 yo. In some curriculum you can also learn Latin and Greek on top of those 4 basic languages. And then at 18 yo you go to college or university and can find a course for any language.
@internationallyME
@internationallyME 7 лет назад
In Japan they learn English from elementary school onwards however since there aren't many chances here to use English, Japanese can't speak it much. We told the shop manager how he spelt source wrong so he should be fixing that soon :D

I really love this so much. I feel all your videos are the most in depth I have seen about Japan. It has literally been the deciding factor that makes me want to come so see Japan so badly. The way you focus on the local aspects instead of just touristy parts brings Japan alive to where I am able to see the real true heart of Japan! I'd love it if you haven't already if you could make a video possibly about food phrases to use in Japan like when you say "What's your recommendation" and food names we should know like "Tako" or the word for "squid or eel or mackerel" But I know beef chicken and pork so yaay! It's the more rare food words I don't know.
