I think Aqua’s attempt to keep Ruby out of the industry is completely understandable seeing as he literally watched his mom die right in front of him and he’s listening to his 16 year old sister saying “I want to be just like mom.” This while the person who got his mom killed is still out there and in the same industry that she would be working in

The Entertainment Industry is also his Battleground. It's not like he's against her dream of being an idol actually, it's more like "become an idol AFTER I finished my dirty business there".

Aqua is just being realist here. He saw how much broken this industry is and don't want her sister to take the same mistakes again. I respect him at the end he let her be herself and gave support to it by themselves.

Really liked your talk about him being restraint from his own guilt to further pursue his dreams. Like how the past life shaped both of them different - Ruby, being dead with 12 already still has that dreamy vision about being idol in difference to Aqua who as an adult knows the “dark” side of the industry. Another difference is that Ruby never saw Ai die behind that door where Aqua saw everything

Ai's death will always be Aqua's fault in his mind. A man's duty is to protect his family and even if there was nothing his four year old body could have done, logic doesn't enter into it. To fail at that duty is to have a hole torn in your soul and the way his eye is filled with darkness instead of light represents how powerful a grip all the negative emotions surrounding Ai's death have on him. He plans to fill that hole by digging two graves, but hopefully he'll realize that he's actually digging three graves and he'll give up on his need for vengeance to keep Ruby from getting buried too.

actually Aqua not didn't want Ruby to become an idol. the proof is he didn't protest when Ruby was recruited by his adoptive mother. Aqua just doesn't want Ruby to be caught and exploited by an agency he can't trust.

Even in his past life, Aqua wasn't much on dreams. When he was talking to Sarina (Ruby) about being reborn, she even calls him out for not being one for dreams. And it really makes sense that Aqua wouldn't want the idol life for Ruby. He got to see Ai's personal struggles with having a personal life and life as an idol as her doctor, and then, as her child, he got to see how much she had to struggle financially and professionally even after she proved how talented she was. Then, to cap it all off, he was in her arms as she died all because some crazy fan got a little peak behind the curtain into her private life. Just imagine how he'd feel if he knew Ruby was Sarina.

would you prefer Ruby to experience the same thing as Ai? sometimes ruby's dream/happiness doesn't necessarily make ruby safe, what you say is overprotective this is what parents in asia and the middle east do, this doesn't mean parents control their daughters, they still give freedom to their daughters, but they have to be able to assume the responsibility to maintain the honor and safety of herself

Aqua knows the truth.. about industry because of director. He saw Ai Die in front of his eye.. not that Ruby She said "I want to be like mom" Your mom is dead now.. while i think it was scummy for aqua to go behind his sister's back to turn her down, that he ultimately feared ruby having the same fate as her mother i can see why he worries for her. as for underground idols, also known as chika idols, it's one of the means by which idols are still around, but the biggest concern that parents tend to have is that so many that come and go are typically indeed poorly managed - that one idol who aqua tried to scout pretty much spoke the truth. that said, "live your own life" is easier said than done, especially for his circumstances.

it doesn't matter. japan believes in reincarnation. but you aren't supposed to have the memory of your previous life. so even tho you reincarnate, you are supposed to be a whole different person. aqua & ruby's case is unique only to both of them because of an intervention of a particular entity that will be revealed on the next season
