This is great. 5:15 and 6:00 and 9:40 running joke of "the VFR what?" love having the screen recording of foreflight. wow, the flyway was BUSY. great water and scenery though. 14:15 love your pre-landing brief.
One question 4 you or group. I’ve watched RU-vid pilot admit they’re afraid of heights while standing close to the edge of a cliff drop off etc But they are able to fly ok & don’t have that sense of vertigo. I’ve been to top of Twin Towers & Statue of Liberty but you wouldn’t catch me sitting outside on the crown portion. When your flying in a small GA plane & it’s rocking & you bank left or right- there’s not a sense of vertigo?
Like & watching many of your videos. I to got the flying bug & like you learning all about flying using a few Simulationa & also flying a few RC planes at local fields & would like to start venturing into my Pilot’s license as well. I like you’re comment in precious video- you said you’re turning a 180 the start your run but realized you never marked a compass heading where you started from- Without a GPS taking off & just flying 5 minutes one can easily get disoriented & not even remember the direction of wheee the actual runway I just taken off from. Unless one is using Oculus Rift it’s also harder using one fixed monitor as a reference point. Not having actual yoke, rudder pedals & throttle levers it’s harder using a generic joystick to perform multiple tasks. One thing is being inside the actual plane & flying in light to moderate turbulence having the entire plane move around & having the dash vibrate because of the engine must be a lot harder than simming.
I love this topic Charlie. It has been my experience and training that while on VFR flight following, the approach controllers are doing all that coordination with underlying class D airports. It’s a little nuanced, but I like this article on the topic: www.google.com/amp/s/bruceair.wordpress.com/2017/10/19/transiting-airspace-with-flight-following/amp/
@@MidlifePilot great link! In my limited experience I’ve asked approach and they usually tell me that they’ll coordinate with the tower, or vector me around the airspace in question. I still usually check with the controller just because I don’t want to get a violation. Nice video by the way!
Good job!!! I’ve always flown myself to Oshkosh, my wife will not stay in a tent, so next year we will find a B&B and rent a car, thanks for the idea!!!
