A lot of the HETT's were returned to OSHKOSH CORP. by the military to be retrofitted with a CAT diesel, new hood, plumbing & wiring. The front & rear axles steered on these. OSHKOSH in the past made some real big trucks called the Desert Knight and Desert Prince. These were CAT powered, and there was a model with hub reduction rears like the HAYES and PACIFIC trucks with a flatbed body that hauled CAT D-7 or D-8's around over- seas.

Your suspension dump is the control for the air system to the left of the steering wheel. You've got it in on road in the video. Turn the toggle switch on that panel on, cycle the control to emergency and hit the start button on that panel and it will deflate the tires. Do this while the engine is running. To air up, just select one of the other modes and his start again.

I use to drive the M1070 Super HET when I was in the Army. There is nothing like neutral dropping down a hill on the German Autobahn with a 70 ton tank on the retailer. Kinda scary and fun at the same you pass station wagons and the little kids are looking up and waving as you speed by them. Going up hill is a different story. German truck drivers gave us the bird alot because we were so slow going up hills in a convoy.
@Braxton15able
@Braxton15able 3 года назад
What the hell your putting it in neutral going down hill. How did you get your cdl that's illegal
@chrismanning1171
@chrismanning1171 3 года назад
@@Braxton15able If you did not put it in neutral then there was a high chance to overrun the compressor trying to use the air brakes keeping the 70TON load plus the weight of the truck and trailer under the speed limit going down a very long hill. Or you will just burn up a boogie(s), lock it up, and catch it on fire. Its just to much weight to try to stay at convoy speed or posted autobahn speeds. The transmission sounds like it is ready to explode and the low air warning buzzer stays on as your air pressure continues to drop from pumping the brakes. So we put some space between trucks as we crested a hill and down we go. Of course I was driving in the Army and in Europe.
@russ1376

@christophermanning9429
@christophermanning9429 3 года назад
@@russ1376 If you drove in Germany then you would know there were some monster hills. The transmission could not take it when it was screaming sounding like it was ready to bust through the floor board. Yes, I ran the engine brake on high and light braking. I have seen boogies get burned up and locked up trying to ride the brakes down a hill. Our convoy commander tried to keep the convoy at 40 mph going down a hill once and he found at the hard way that a combine weight of the 70 ton tank and the 15 ton tractor/trailer was not going to be held back by the brakes. He quickly got out of the way before being ran over.

he was trying to dump the air bags. the airbags don’t get empty if you open all the air tanks. it’s a standard to drain the air tanks when the vehicle is parked at the end of the day. easier way to lower the height of the vehicle is to drain the air on the tires using the CTIS.

should’ve just used the CTIS to dump the air out of all tires and when you get to your destination start the truck and let it air up the tires again while your taking your chains off. the chairs in the back are bunk beds for the 2 drivers and when hauling a tank that’s where the 4 tank crews seat during the trip.

@@robertauld1334 Well Robert Auld, I guess I miss spoke when I said, "Many of them were simply nick-named, "Dragon Wagons". What I should've communicated was, that one particular model used during & after WWII was called the M-26 Armored Tank Transporter, nicknamed, "Dragon Wagon". Combined with its M-15 semi-trailer, it was the M-25. But you think this truck is something, check out the tractors (two; front & rear) that moved the M-65 280 mm atomic cannon!

I’m surprised someone has fixed one of these up to be in a truck show. Add a big sleeper & a fancy paint job with plenty of LED lighting.

My grandpa took a ww2 utility boat and turned it into a fishing boat and it has a Detroit diesel. Sounds exactly like this truck

We had a ferry in town years ago with 6 671s 3 in a row on each shaft and exhaust pipes each side. What music when they booted it to turn around

Well, that's what it is. Kind of pulling your leg,, but not. They were used to haul heavy equipment if it ran or not. Those winches were used to winch on M1's, or anything else. In Iraq when convoys we're attacked and vehicles were so disabled they could not be towed they sent out recovery with these monsters to bring back whatever was left, burned out trucks, trailers, MRAPS..
