I've always thought about stuff like this. Stuff that is an abstract framework and doesn't really exist in the real world. Like perfect circles and spheres. Or how lines have width and 2D drawings have depth. It baffles me that a mathematician could have spend his whole life not once thinking of such a thing, until Osho talked to him about it.

Fun fact : just the strap on Osho' watches had 31 karats of diamonds . I won't even go into talking about the bezel ,the rubies ,the quality of the diamonds, you can find all that on the internet. Suffice to say he was iced out on a level that today's rappers with all their talk about jewellery don;t even come close. He was on par with dictators and monarchs when it comes to the bling game! And the car game was in a league of it;s own with 93 rolls royces. He was literally balling on dictator/moarch level way above top billionaire level .

People sometimes have a hard time admitting that they are ignorant of certain things. However, I find the greatest liberation one can achieve is to admit that they do not know with certainty that everything they've been told is true. To me this is a necessary admission if one wishes to search for true understanding. To admit that there are things we do not know is an honest statement which leaves room for the idea that anything is possible. Starting with a clean slate - free from all past impressions accumulated in our minds allows us to seek understanding from a perspective of experience rather than relying on blind faith. Taking this position allows us to view everything as it is without presuppositions. That is not to say that what we have learned cannot be considered - it simply means that what we have learned from others is different from what we have experienced ourselves. From here we can seek to understand ourselves and our world without polluting our views with what we've been told to believe. From here we can begin to see more clearly the forces involved in creating this phenomenon we call life. Seek to expand your view of the universe and creation by first accepting your own ignorance.

In the case of euclid his brilliance lies in defining the essence of things like length without invoking extraneous concepts (such as breadth). It is a matter of absolute precision of definition which Osho does not understand. Obviously physical lines in the material world have breadth also, but euclid is defining the ideal case.

The exact same thing I was asking myself and now I'm thinking that time is also hypothesis. For example: Some one talks about time in form of one hour. The hour has, had or will have a beginning and has, had or will have an end. So the start of the hour was in the past, is in the present or will be in the future. The same thing for the end of the hour and you can't make an hour out of two points that are in the present and the only thing that exists, is the present. So an hour does not exist. It is hypothesis.

Our world is 3-dimmensional that's why we cannot draw a line with no breadth or for that case no height on a board But here, in Euclidean Geometry the line is defined in 1-D that's why it only has 'one dimmension' that is length and the point in zero dimmension and thus has no length no breadth Osho is definitely right in pointing out about the breadth thing and asking questions if it were Euclid in place of his teacher then he would've made him clear about it

The issue is with point... a point is dimensionless and from a point a line germinates and from a line a plane... The perceivable universe is always 3D and thus the point line and plane have no existence separately. Similarly an imaginary number doesnt exist but concepts like complex frequency exist.

the ‘line’ is a defined boarder between two areas, not a physical thing in itself. Why does it need width? That’s like saying a boarder between two states has to have width - some sort of deadzone that separates two states. No - the line is just a definition

well Osho, you might did not know that euclid actually did not draw figures on a blackboard. It looked for the in the geometry, for example going to a temple, looking at the columns, "oh that's a rectangle at the base of the column!". When you draw on a blackboard it becomesa a texture, you lose definition by going onto representation space. Grab a piece of paper, carve it into a rectangle, there you will find the lines and the dots that euclid was talking about.

A line doesn't have breadth. If it has, then it's a rectangle. The boundary of that rectangle is a line, which only has length, no breadth. It's not a hypothesis.

I love Osho so much. A lot of the other masters really fall short with him. The only person that I see at his caliber is Allan Watts. And I cannot compare them.

I think that he didn't understand Euclid as he should..when drawing a line with a pen or something, there will be length and breadth, but, when someone uses his eyes to see around him, lines may not have no length nor breadth when separating objects.you can understand this by simply look at 2 different coloured things being put next to each other.thank you.I really enjoy these videos

Quantum theory corroborates what Osho says, there is a minimum size for things in the universe and it's qualified as the Planck size. It is a physical and real size. As the Guru said, math is simply practical.

I remember myself when I was at school, and I was having maths lesson, and I told the teacher the line on the board had width, she said I was stupid and silly, no explanation was given...and at history of religions lesson I asked why would I remember some saint's name, what is the point...everybody laughed except teacher because she thought I misbehaved...soon after the lesson one of my classmates' siblings(they were priest's children) attacked me in the hall ...a boy younger than me...I still remember their family(they had 7 or 8 kids at that time)... then I realized they were all phony...

A line is an edge of a box, it doesn't exit alone. That edge has no breath, every thing that you can call as breadth is box, not the line. Same way consciousness is nothingness.

Technically, both the principal/teacher and Osho may have missed the one point that they could have agreed on - "The line that was drawn on the board has length and some breadth, but this drawn line is meant to be a representation of the 'true' line that has no breadth as described by Euclid. Same for the point that was drawn on the board, you can use a magnifying glassa and a ruler to measure some length and breadth, but this drawn point is meant to be a representation of the 'true' point' that has not length and breadth." However, I do appreciate that Osho's example used here is to show that too many people in this world just take ideas/so called truths given to them throughout their lives As-Is without ever questioning their very essense.

Perhaps the professor should have started with the concept of limit and then defined a point or a line. Mathematics thrives on limit

One needs to know the Prayojan of mathematics as it came from Euclid. Of course principal fell short there, but i am very sure other mathematician won't. Like the line that separates the tricolor in the flag, you see the line which only has length but not breadth.
