This is one of the coolest, simplest and logical explanation of how OSI works. There are tones and tones of videos on YT but unfortunately majority stuff is just "theory and conceptual" level. This video on the other hand explains everything practically and the way it should be. Great work.

What does OSI mean? You’re a GREAT instructor! Truly. If there’s one thing you could improve upon is making sure you ALWAYS introduce an acronym only after you have spoken it’s full form, and the gradually shift in your speech to the use of the acronym alone, thus teaching the acronym as you’re teaching your subject.
That's a fair point. I make more of an effort to introduce the words that make up the acronyms when they are more relevant (you'll see this in Lesson 6 if you continue the series). In the case of OSI... the name is somewhat arbitrary. Open Systems Interconnect -- it's simply the name of the group which was trying to establish the standard. The letters don't actually mean anything.
This is the best explanation of the OSI model on the Internet. I'd recommend all of you to watch all the videos of this channel at 0.75x speed to get an even-better understanding of the topics.

over ten years ago as a student, I have must gone to school far from home about 20km to learn Network. I remember this module take 1 week to learn, and now I just watch it in 30 minutes to understand what I need. Thanks

This is the BEST explanation of the OSI model I have ever seen. So many people don't explain why it is practical to use it as a model for networking, so it's just rote memorization of weird facts that don't' have any context. Especially when you get to the upper layers. You're a very good teacher and actually made this comprehensible, and INTERESTING, and not just a bunch of facts.
The video series is one of the best I've seen so far! In all my college years and working years, I've never been able to understand these concepts as clearly as I understand them now. Your videos are more educational than most Engineering courses that cover these concepts. Will definitely recommend this series to everyone who is studying networking. Also, this is the first time I'm hooked to an educational series and binge-watch these like I used to with a Netflix series! Thank you so much for the brilliant illustrations and explanations.

I've been taking the Google Cybersecurity course on Coursera, and this series is more in depth than that is. You do such a great job at breaking everything down even further so that I not only grasp the overlying concepts, but understand it on a fundamental level without making it seem tedious. I look back on notes I took in that and see a whole lot that the Coursera course didn't cover. Really glad I found this.

Amazing videos and very easy to understand! So just to test my learning and my understanding I will explain in a very easy way to see if I understood the 1-2-3 layers of the OSI model. Please correct me if I'm wrong. 1)Physical Layer: Basically is the layer that we want to send data and to be able to send the data we need ethernet cables, Wi-Fi, repeaters etc. The physical parts 2)Data Link Layer: This layer will try to send the data from PC1 to PC2. But to be able to send the data we need to have some routers in the "network line" between PC1-PC2 and the data from PC1 will hop to the first router with the mac address then hop to next router with the mac address and then to another hop for example and then hop to PC2. 3) Network Layer: To successfully receive PC2 the data we need the IP address. So the Layer 2 and 3 works together and we have the MAC addresses from layer 2 and IP addresses from Layer 3 and with that the IP address between the last hope will receive the PC2 the data from PC1.
Amazing. Can’t thank you enough. I’ve been looking for a practical explanation of the OSI model rather than the usual “just memorize it”, so happy to find your videos. I’ve taken networking three times and passed with flying colors each time however, I don’t use it every day so things start to get fuzzy. Now I have to apply it again and need a refresh…except this refresh is many times better than any version I was originally taught.
I stumbled across Practical Networking yesterday while looking for information on how VLANs work. Funnily enough the first time I saw a MAC address was when I was a teenager and it was on... a Mac - so I assumed it had to be some kind of weird apple address I have seen it elsewhere but that just confused things. Now I understand thoroughly thank you

Finally a video that explains what devices sit where in the model. Also I have watched so many videos on this and never once have they explained the MAC address data transport part showing how the mac address is changed per hop so that helped explain a lot as well, thank you for this video.
