It's one of those weird conventions where the ballerinas solo can be a variation from another ballet. The reasons are historical, and also linked to the preferences of individual dancers, choreographers, artistic directors, etc. through the ages.
I hadn’t seen much of Saranov before this but I’ve watched La Beyadere and he is fabulous in that. How wonderfully he handled a very young Osipova in this. Wonderful 🙏🙏🙏👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺
I've asked myself, "What if a dancer is left handed and/or can only spin and jump to the left?". Sarafanov answered that question. They spin and jump to the left!
WOW!! I generally prefer Mariinsky ballerinas because of the long arms and upper body, but Osipova is simply fabulous. I wish she had stayed with a Russian ballet company. I live in the Los Angeles area and the Royal Ballet has been here only once in the last few years and she did not dance at that time. I have been able to see her former partner, Ivan Vasilov, three times and the two of them together (from video clips) are pure magic.
She is absolute perfection, even with the tiny slip up. Makes her human, she’s incredible- my favourite! Love Le Corsair but she IS Kitri. 👏👏👏👏👏🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Extraordinary, both of them, great masters. Their jumps are incredible, i always liked both of them. Her fouettes are so beautiful and different, difficult., Different. Pure perfection! Thank you so much, Bundu Ballerina, for posting this!! masterpiece!!
🤩💐👳♀️👸🩰 Beautiful PDD Le Corsaire is. Excellent performance! 1st time I watch Sarafanov great interpretation and impecable technique. Osipova brilliant as always . Russian dancers are great. Thanks for sharing. ADRIANA MORALES FROM ARGENTINA 🇦🇷 ❤.
Where would one begin? I'm sort of speechless. Top notch ballet of the highest order. Osipova is a marvel. She has the speed of a Balanchine dancer. She has everything and then some. She is exquisite. Sarafanov is sinewy spectacularness. The moves he makes, his steps dont even have names they are so unique and difficult.
Osipova could be running to catch the subway in January in a puffer coat, with a streaming head cold, and you'd watch her. She's got that much charisma. Meanwhile, Brad Pitt here looks pretty good himself.
Such a beauty married to such exquisite talent --it fairly takes one's breath away. Although I can't possibly say I'm a balletomane, I still in my amateurish ways do, nonetheless, try to play critic--just for kicks and giggles--just as if I had to write a review. I've watched just about everything "Osopova" on RU-vid and getting nowhere. The arms, the extensions, the jumps, the pirouettes, the fouettes, her characterizations. In my eyes, PURRFECT!! These last two sentences would be the full extent of the review. Oh, and by the way, I love the way she whips that head around! For sure, she deserves every accolade I sometimes think, though, that the men who partner her in a masterful way and whose solos are magnificent often don't receive the ovation that Ms. Osopova does- I think that Sarafanov in this dance is an example. Of course, Osopova deserved all the applause that was bestowed upon her. But I think Sarafanov deserved equal "billing" in the kudos department, but alas, I think it fell short. .
This really builds to a stunning climax. If is really tremendously unfair, but any male artist performing this will inevitably be compared with R. Nureyev. This young man has a flair and style that could mature into something stupendous, and certain elements of his portrayal are spectacular, but my impression is that he has a way to go yet (as of 2008). This is really far better than I first thought, on second viewing
Rewatching, I love them both but was never expecting to see them together. I feel badly that Osipova is garnering more applause. Sarafanov is clean, focused, and pulling off a lot of bravura moves I don't even have a name for (barrell turn/hitchkick at the beginning of the coda?) I haven't seen a lot of danseurs pull off. Osipova is great as always, but she looks a little unfocused and is doing mainly things she's always been exceptional at and known for, like the soaring leaps and whip-fast turns. Still, a pleasure!
Christine Still it’s up in my top 10.😊. I also saw Paris Opera and the Kirov dance it. My seeing ballet live days are long over. Thank goodness for you tube
I notice that everytime it is his turn to dance there is a long pause. I think there is a problem backstage. Maybe he is in pain. And the orchestra is waiting till he shows up on stage. I know this because I have performed for years and things happen backstage that the audience do not see.
To are correct. If you search for Dupond Guillem Corsaire, Guillem does the Queen of the Dryads variation from DonQ. Osipova with Vasiliev does Gamzatti (I think). That one by the way, is great as it is filmed at floor level from the wings. I'm not sure of the tradition or logic for the ballerina's variation. Osipova and Sarafanov are flawless and very well matched.
