I have this pack and only use it as a small daypack when I travel and will put a small water bottle in the middle expanded area. I have rarely used the side mesh pockets.
Important. I have 2 kids, so, I usually keep one bottle for each of them on each side & carry my bottle internally in the bag. So if the bottles fall out of the pockets it would be a pain & render them useless.
This has been my everyday bag for over two years now. It goes with me on day hikes, around town, as a personal item compliment to a roller carry-on, and even stuffed full with packing cubes for multi-day travel on budget airlines when I don't want to pay any bag fees. It has worked pretty much flawlessly 12,000ft up in the Rockies, on the streets of London, and on the beach in Puerto Rico. If you value lightweight above all and don't need endless high-end features then for the money this is a quality versatile bag. What they did not mention in the video is that the back panel can be removed and put back easily which allows you to roll the bag up quite small, making it easy to stuff into a larger bag for travel if for some reason packing the bag flat won't work. I have had to do this before so I know it works. Considering how much versatility I need from an everyday bag, as well as accommodate my DSLR and 2 lenses during travel and day hikes, I took the leap and recently purchased the Peak Design everyday 20L that provides quick camera access on the go and should last me a long time. Osprey says this is 20L but I find that subjective and seems to take into account every pocket and space available like the front stuff pocket held by the compression straps. When compared to other 20L bags it seems smaller and thinner. What you really have is something that feels more like 15L plus 5L of somewhat usable space around the bag. Not great for maximizing interior space but keeps the bag streamlined and feeling thin on your back. Overall for the price and versatility, it's a solid "B-B+" backpack in my opinion.
Hey Matt - wow you've really put the Daylite Plus through some testing. Thanks for sharing, we love to hear other experiences with the packs we've reviewed. It's great to hear that you've been able to adapt and find a way to make this pack work so well for you! How are you getting on with the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 20L? - Rebecca
@@PackHacker The Everyday 20L is the most impressive and well thought out non-electronic item I own. At the price it is not for everyone, but if you use a backpack every day it makes sense to me to invest in something that works well for your need and will last for years to come. It is at least 3x as heavy as the Daylite Plus though, so for a demanding day hike with no camera gear, I will still use my Osprey to carry a rain shell, water, and snacks. Never underestimate the joy of only having a couple pounds on your back during a long day.
Great stuff Matt! Investing in good gear that will last (and that you use on a daily basis) is always a great thing. The Osprey Daylite Plus is a really handy pack to have around too - great setup! - Rebecca
@@slashnagy6 Ya it has held up really well. The upper front pocket zipper has started becoming difficult but given the abuse I have put it through with sand and salt water it’s a really good basic backpack for the price.
I am enjoying how comprehensive these reviews are on each bag! I discovered this channel recently and I am the type of person that prefers to do extensive research before making purchases, so this channel is AMAZING.
Very honest review. I've used this pack for 5 years now and the pros and cons are accurate. The bottle pockets are useless for bottles, I instead use carabiners or put it in the middle "pocket." I have found that the side pockets are fine for small things like protein bars, tissues, etc., and in combination with the straps to hold larger things like umbrellas or hiking poles.
This exact model served me well throughout my deployment. The material is strong enough to withstand being stuffed into a seabag and more. I’m genuinely impressed by how it handle the abuse.
I use this backpack about 90% of the time when I go day hiking or traveling in cities. It fits all of my tablets (Galaxy S7+, iPad Pro 11”, etc) and Macbook Pro 14”. Highly recommended!
Just received this in the post. Ok, bottle holders could be better but very pleased with this purchase. At £40 it is very good value and perfect for walks, cycling. For work and laptop I would opt for something with padding, but that is not what I was looking for. Good review 👍👍
who knew that it had a built-in whistle?! I had never heard that feature mentioned before. Great review! Just got my bag today... must be an updated version because the water bottle pockets are not slanted and hold a bottle very securely.
I use a Sigg water bottle that has a loop top, then use a carabiner clipped on to the compression strap, your water bottle can’t fall out of the pockets with that set up. Anyway I think you are supposed to use Osprey hydraulics bladder with this pack, that solves the water problem if you don’t mind paying 30 quid for it.
I am a big fan of Osprey products and the company’s innovation. I am glad that you guys addressed the color differentiation that is advertised on the website, I was also disappointed with this same issue while purchasing a larger bag months ago. Great in-depth review.
Thank you for the review. This one is on my short list to buy for what i'm looking for....light weight, simple and ease of use for trail and airplane possibly. This video was very informative with real world testing and the critique is helpful. I agree with the water bottle holder, it appears they could have executed it better than being an after thought. Cheers!
If you do not use the external bladder, buyers should be aware of a few things. After fairly extensive use for more than a year, the external bladder clip starts to wear through the pack lining. I never use the bladder, so the clip hangs loosely and has begun to dig small holes and various points of wear on my pack. I love this pack and I wish I would've known that before because I would've just cut it off to prevent this since I never use bladders anyway. I hope this info is of use to someone. This is why long term pack reviews are important.
Does anybody else also dislike packs that integrate the shoulder straps with the top grab handle like this one? Aside from the aesthetic part which may be an issue to some (like me), it also makes it impossible to wear the pack up higher with the extra webbing joining the handle and straps in the way 🤷🏻♂️.
@@PackHacker I'm currently interchanging between the Fjallraven Raven 28L and the Peak Design Everyday Backpack 20L, but I have my eye on The Brown Buffalo Conceal :)
There are plenty of sturdier 20L packs. Red Oxx Kat Pack for example. But they eat up to a pound more. I’m grateful someone is making lighter packs for flying.
i've had this backpack for a few years now and I've not liked it that much, it's been my personal item on many trips! I wasn't using it to its true potential. how silly of me! I have the really pretty green/teal color.
THE BEST BAG EVER FOR ME SO LIGHTWEIGHT AND COMFORTABLE. I IBIKE COMMUTE TO WORK EVERYDAY WITH THIS BAG AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH. IM ABLE TO CARRY SHOES AND UNIFORM WITH A BIKE LOCK AND A BIKE CABLE LOCK IT ALL FITS AND FEELS SO COMFORTABLE ON MY BACK.
What nobody is mentioning in these Osprey daylite plus reviews is the sweat factor on your back. Hiked for 6 hours yesterday. Conditions were clear, warm and dry. Temperature was 75 F/23C. My back was completely drenched with sweat with this pack. Yes, it is a very comfortable pack with ample space for your stuff. Seriously doubt the sweating would be an issue in much colder conditions, but warmer days be prepared to feel uncomfortable with your shirt sticking to your back
It's kinda hard like I'm looking for something like an atmos with that spacing but is a daypack but they have a osprey one but it supposedly too narrow and it digs in your back
Also. wanted to say, really like the front stretchy pocket. I have the regular Daylite, which is a terrific day pack and my go to. Also use on trips, esp if hiking is planned. That pocket would be great for a light jacket, almost makes me want to upgrade. Will be looking for REI sales (but I have an REI Trail25, might review that as well. I'm inclined to think it would be good very short plane trips--1-3 days (no suits or anything).
Thanks for sharing astrog8tr - the stretch pocket is a great size for a light or packable jacket. Let us know how you get on with the REI Trail 25 - we'd love to know what you think! 😊👍 - Rebecca
@@PackHacker, The REI Trail 25 is a boxy shaped day pack (lightweight at around a pound). Clam shell design and lots of pockets and compartments, which would make traveling (rather short trips) easier. I wouldn't take it for a week, but if i had a short trip (1-3 days) that I wanted to take I would consider it. I have not used in this way but was going to but I cancelled the trip. You could stick a packing cube in there for clothes-- voila compartments for that!
Awesome! That added organization does come in handy! Thanks for sharing your thoughts so far. Let us know how you get on with this pack when you take it on a short trip with you. 👍 - Rebecca
So I know it's might not fit in the "travel pack" category but i would love to see a review on the 5.11 amp series, especially the 24 and 72 pack. I'm looking to get one for traveling and am curious about your opinion on them. Also, I can't find great reviews on them.
Thanks for reaching out bartsons! We're interested in checking them out, but there are currently no reviews for these products in the current pipeline. 😊👍 - Rebecca
I have to admit i was disappointed with that bag. I am puzzled about the back panel that is quite rigid in a wrong way: on a hike it's starting to be really annoying because you got the feeling to have a kind of "bar" pressing against your lower back. The removable belt makes it worse as the annoyance translate into a pain, especially if you got a laptop in the bag. Impossible to put the bag "higher" on the back because the "handle" then hit the neck. Ventilation is also pretty bad for a "sport" activity. I ended up removing that back panel (that can be removed easily, good point) and use the backpack only as a spare one for a main bag. As a bag you use for city only (no laptop), it's acceptable. As a bag for hike (forest/mountain), it's a no go for me, better focus on a more expensive bag with a far better panel.
Hey stephlutin - it's a shame you didn't have a great experience with this pack, but thanks for all the detailed information you've shared. 👍👍 - Rebecca
Hey Krittaphon L. - we recommend checking out our Travel Daypack Guide which includes a range of different packs for all different travel styles and use cases. packhacker.com/guide/how-to-choose-the-best-travel-daypack-for-you/ - hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions! 😊👍 - Rebecca
Thank you for this review. I was considering this pack but now I’m not sure if I’ll buy it. I really don’t get Osprey’s water bottle holder. Btw, I love your coral colored wrap sweater. Do you mind sharing where you got it? :)
Hey Kaikunnomama - thanks for watching! The water bottle pockets could definitely be a dealbreaker depending on your use case, so let us know what you decide. 👍 And of course, it's from a clothing chain in the UK called Next. 😊 - Rebecca
Hey Alienigenarum, we found that because the curved shoulder straps are nicely padded with dense foam it made for a comfortable carry even when the pack was at full capacity. However, it does depend on the items you're carrying, so your mileage may vary. You can find out more info on this pack in our full written review: packhacker.com/travel-gear/osprey/daylite-plus/ - Rebecca
Is there any daypack or backpack from osprey with -+40L but im not interest to farpoint 40. Could you suggest me, others brand if you recommend. Thank you

@@PackHacker i think your recommendation are too big mam. If you want to choose another brand and type. Which one you choose it: the north face surge ll transit or tnf router transit? Thank your responded. Greetings from Indonesia 😊🙏👈
Hey Zona - we're currently testing out the Noth Face Base Camp Duffel, you can check out our initial thoughts here packhacker.com/travel-gear/the-north-face/base-camp-duffel/ - we also recommend taking a look at the Aer Travel Pack 2 packhacker.com/travel-gear/aer/travel-pack-2-2/, the Thule Subterra 34L packhacker.com/travel-gear/thule/subterra-34l/ and the Eagle Creek Wayfinder 40L packhacker.com/travel-gear/eagle-creek/wayfinder-backpack-40l/ - hope this helps! - Rebecca
@@PackHacker waw.. so many of backpack you could recommend to me rebecca. I already bought the north face router transit. But im not satisfied enough to this backpack because just a few things inside this bag. However this backpack is huge inside in main compartment. Ps: for a while, im fallin in love with admin compartment..contact me if you in indonesia, in jakarta, bogor, bekasi, depok or tangerang maybe or other areas 😍😊🙏👈
this looks just nice, does anybody know if you can take this backpack in the cabin airplane as a hand small bag? without payin additional fee for it? thank you
Osprey has had a lot of time to fix these packs. They do not want to fix the water bottle pockets, and, therefore, I would look elsewhere. Also, Osprey has a lot of colors, but they too are a disappointment. Lastly, I feel Ospreys' customer service has been lacking as of late.
wanting to buy this to go on my fairview 50, I know they can connect one way but was wondering if this has capability to clip onto my bag kangaroo style?
Hey upucka11 - the dense foam on the shoulder straps and back panel feature narrow gaps which is great for added ventilation. Hope this helps! 😊👍 - Rebecca
Hey Dixon! We haven't tested this out ourselves, but Osprey says on their website that the Farpoint Trek 55 is compatible with the Daylite Series. Hope this helps! 👍 - Rebecca
Hey Roberto - yes it will. The pack is at full capacity in the images from our written review, you can check them out here packhacker.com/travel-gear/osprey/daylite-plus/ - hope this helps! 👍 - Rebecca
Hey Daniel - the zippers aren't lockable, but the compression straps do go over the top of the zippers. While this doesn't make it impossible to open, it does offer a little extra protection. Hope this helps! - Rebecca
Pack Hacker I’ll probably be wrong, but I’d guess that the pro mics are mounted on the camera itself and not on a boom? On the videos done in this pink room the vocal audio always sounds hollow or echoey. In contrast, the videos with Tom where he uses a lap mic they sound fine, along with most of the ones he doesn’t. My guess is that the mic was positioned closer. All other aspects are great, but inconsistent audio from video to video is kind of a bummer.
One of the most uncomfortable strap systems on any pack I've ever tried. The worst part is the ultra stiff tabs that the waist belt attaches to have very sharp corners that stab you in the back with each step. They Actually scratched my skin thru the t shirt I was wearing, and when I put on a jacket, it worse hole in the fabric on a 2 mile hike.
Hey Patricia! We haven't had our hands on the Osprey Daylite Travel yet, so we cannot verify the differences 100%. However, it looks like the Osprey Daylite Travel has a different laptop compartment, an RFID lining, more internal organization, and different quick-access pockets. The capacity is different too and there's also a zippered expansion feature. Hope this helps! - Rebecca
@@PackHacker Yes, I have 3 Osprey packs and just ordered my forth for everyday use. Thanks to your vid I was able to make an informed choice about what would work best for me, so thank you for that.
You got it, Mazzy! We're so glad that you're finding the videos helpful and that you've been able to find a range of packs that work well for you. Sounds like you have a solid collection going on! 😊🙌 - Rebecca
