Denis Shapovalov in anger hits chair umpire in the face with the tennis ball || DAVIS CUP 2017 || Canada - Great Britain || Denis Shapovalov Kyle Edmund #DenisShapovalov #Disqualified #ChairUmpire
@@leonardocardoso4020 yeah dude but he still could’ve very easily hit a fan which would be just as bad. Part of being a professional is being able to keep your emotions in check.
The guy grabs a ball from his pocket and hits it sideways as hard as he can. I play tennis all the time and have never seen anyone do something this stupid, especially with fans standing in the audience.
I had this happen to me once 😂 some of the hair from the ball got in my eye, I can’t imagine how much it would hurt from a professional player hitting it full power
I saw it thousands of time on tv, a tennis player doing exactly the same, if the ball doesn't hit a person who is near the court it loses speed and the danger of hurting someone isn't there anymore. So, given that Denis apologized and took responsibility, there's no need to keep blaming him.
That ref was lucky. I worked with a guy that got hit in the eye by a serve when he was a teen, and the next day in school his retina detached from the rest of his eye and he lost the ability to see out of it.
@@QuackersMcCrackers Sniffing paint thinner? The whole chemical sniffing, huffing, whippets subculture is for lightweight soy boys! Fun fact: hitting a ref with the ball is an automatic default whether the ref cares or not. That’s just the rules. In the game, it wasn’t the refs decision to default the guy, he just so happened to tell everyone that the guy has defaulted
what in wondering is if the ref is the close to the court then they should obviously know that eventually hes gonna get hit with a ball the should atleast have so e kind is net or something so he doesn't get hit
@@F4EPhilosophy rules are in place for a reason. Throwing fast balls into the crown with the potential to hit an audience member has consequences. Thank God it hit the referee and not a a child in the audience!
it was not up to the umpire to disqualify Shapovalov or not, he had to. That's why a Davis Cup official spoke to him just before the disqualification. It's literally in the rules of tennis
@@evilsWa You’re asking what he (the player?) would have done if he didn’t accept the consequences? Why do you ask us? We are not the player. You need to ask the player himself.
Obviously, he's a professional tennis player with power and accuracy. I know he didn't mean to do it, but it was a boneheaded move since wherever that ball landed, it was going to do some sort of damage. He didn't think about that. The referee is lucky he didn't lose his eye.
I like that incident at the Hopman Cup in Australia years ago when Marat Safin hit the net umpire (an older lady) in the face with a big forehand. She hardly flinched but he ran over immediately, apologized and kissed her on her hurt cheek. She grinned and the crowd went wild. Great moment.
Shapovalov has to control his temper better, this is 4 years ago. Recently he broke his racquet after losing to Nadal. Dude honestly needs to chill tf out.
king1nero You’d be frustrated to if someone was looking to paint you as the bad guy after complaining your opponent was going over the serve clock, not respecting opponents serve, and taking long bathroom breaks. Those are big issues that lead to frustration but if you want the frustration to continue just ignore that.
He is half Russian, half Jewish. Fact that he lives in Canada and has Canadian citizenship doesnt matter. Blood makes someone Russian or any other nation, not papers.
It was obvious he didnt mean to do it, but you have to know the consequences of launching a ball into a stadium filled with people Edit: Can’t believe ya’ll are still talking about this
But what are the ODDS, I mean the dudes head ain’t that big and he him right in his eyes!! That’s some mad aiming!!! Wrong game though this ain’t call of duty where head shot gives you extra points
@@ulkigmeme2703 He was trying to slice it so that the launch angle would've been very high, but he shanked it and launched the ball at a much lower angle than expected. So yeah, someone in the crowd could've been hurt if the ball hadn't caught the ref.
@@ComicBookGuy420 pretty sure he's talking about the player's apology for his burst of anger, not trying to complain about losing after that and keeping it civil. Which is different from what we've seen from a certain player (Serena), that complaind and cried alot even though she most certainly is in the wrong, most of the time at least.
If you cut out the beginning it just seems like everyone was concerned about an emotional ref who was having a bad day. A lot more wholesome that way.😊
despite my "high quality" default setting, every video in youtube now defaults to a resolution where I think the game or video I'm watching is from 1990's. Then I remember to manually, every time, switch back to the higher resolution.
I forgot for a moment the players sometimes keep spare balls (shut up) in their pockets, so him pulling one out from frustration was already hilarious. Nailing a perfect accidental headshot was insane. AND you got the perfect thump sound from it. You couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect clip. That and the guy took his DQ like a mature champ, an amazing clip AND pure class.
Reminds me of when refs called shitty penalties. “ Sorry about your lower back, I was just trying to dump the puck in the zone. You may want to have that looked at and think twice about calling bad penalties.”
I once nailed my ex-girlfriend in the face with a tennis ball... by accident of course 0=) Tennis balls aren't really that bad tbh. Try getting hit with a softball, now that hurts.
Fair play to both of them. Obviously the player didn’t mean to hit the umpire but it’s a rule violation and the fact that both the umpire stayed calm and the player accepted his punishment and was more worried about the umpire‘s eye is nice to see
Pretty silly comment. If you strike the ball with power somewhere to the side, chances are it will almost certainly fit if not the judge but someone else. If I were the one creating the rules I would also put such stupid players hefty fines on top of disqualifications
and it should be a rule violation. That could have hit anyone, and if it hit someone in the crowd the Davis Cup likely would have been sued, an organization can't just allow itself to be exposed to liability like that. as such a zero-tolerance approach is necessary.
this guy is just stupid, why should you do that? the umpire could lose his eyesight cause of that. not in the right away, but he could lose it the next few weeks, months or even years later it is possible for the retina to dissolve cause of that... but yeah, an accident. then just the f*ck don't do it wtf
I swear had I been the umpire, I would make sure to get out of that chair and chase that little bastard Dennis out of the damn stadium with the one good eye I still had!
