Hey everyone - I hope you all enjoy this lesson! If you want more information on Osteoarthritis, please check out my full lesson on this topic. Also note, I've condensed some information in this lesson including that Osteoarthritis is caused by "wear and tear" of a joint - this is often the case, but not always, as there are other factors that can also cause Osteoarthritis, which you can learn about in the full lesson :) JJ
Thank you ! This is a very interesting video . Doctors the patient see never explain this . They just give their diagnosis and that’s it . Not good enough Imo..
Not eating sugar and a ketogenic lifestyle has eliminated all my arthritic pain. When I do deviate from this when I eat high sugar or carbs the pain comes back with a vengeance. It takes almost a week to get pain free again. I just went through this when I ate some Easter candy, Cadbury Eggs. My back, especially my hips hurt all night long, along with my knuckles. I am 64 years old. Went to the doctor about 6 years ago with pain, and all she told me is that you went through menopause and your body is changing. Here’s a prescription. I did my own research and figured out certain types of food cause joint pain. I ended up losing 40 pounds when I threw out the pills, flour, corn meal, sugar and the high carb foods. Amazing how energetic and PAINFREE I am now.
@@danishmodern55 Old age never comes alone , as my grandparents used to say . Ballet , gymnastics , carelessness and four pregnancies didn't help either . I'm 73yrs old soon and my grandchildren tell me to slow down 🙃 . If I slow down I'll probably stop . I may try cutting out gluten because I know diet will help ... tomatoes , avocado and other foods are a trigger .. which is a bit odd . I'm grateful for any advice .
Nearly every joint in my body is affected. I hurt so bad sometimes that I can't sleep. I'm watching this at three in the morning. 😂 I do have osteoarthritis, I need both knees replaced, but also PsA and Fibromyalgia. I no longer can work. Thank you for sharing this information. I appreciate it. I learned a lot of things. Be safe and have a good day!✌🏻💙🐾🙆🏻♀️🇺🇸
@@deenastockall512 I wish I could tell you it gets better but I think it just gets worse. Hang in there. Somewhere out there is someone trying to find better treatments.🤞🏻 ✌🏻💙🐾🌍🇺🇸
I'm not sure if you are females and at menopause age, but I was when I developed the arthritis. I went on hormone replacement therapy and within 1month all arthritis was gone and I got my life back.
@@carolinabexley8187 I am 58 and I do have ostearthritis but I have psoriatic arthritis as well so it's a little different. I have special medication for the Psoriatic Arthritis. However, I am definitely going to ask my doctor about the hormone therapy. It definitely could help. Thank you so much for sharing this info. 🥰
I do not agree with your observation of Osteoarthritis. I have had severe pain in the night with it in multiple joints. I have to have shots in my thumb joints because I lose ability to use my hands, & because excruciating pain throbbing in my thumbs at night keeping me from proper sleep. My shoulder was so bad the pain was intolerable. The day after surgery I was in less pain, knew I finally made the right decision to have shoulder replacement. God bless you for trying to help people but, I have lived this for many years. There IS NIGHT PAIN WITH OSTEOARTHRITIS.
Yes I agree too 😢 iv already had a hip & knee replacement & now the others are bad, the throbbing at night & sharp pain every now & then keeps me wake I get 2-4 hours a night, the pills for sleep don’t work so 🤷♀️ I think I’m just waiting around for more replacements 😭 I just turned 60 ugh …
I’ve heard this also and I agree with you. I’m wondering if the medical position though is that pain does not suddenly “appear” as night IF it wasn’t noticeable by sleep time. In other words - in my case, my osteoarthritis is definitely worse in the evening because I’ve put in a days worth of work on those extremities so of course they’re going to hurt at night also from the use of had during the day… in other words, I believe that with rheumatoid, a person may have pain that gets a lot worse at night even though it was NOT bothering them when they went to sleep. In any case though - in the medical community really should clarify because leaving some of us feeling invalidated!
I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much. I'm on my way to the Mayo clinic. Your videos have clued me into some conditions I have and how they're affecting me at 54. Particularly anemia and d deficiency. I'm also a SCI T5 to T11. MRSA inside the spine! It's been 20 years. I'm tired. You have lifted some dark clouds and gives me a direction to look into.
Thank you for the explanation. I have severe OA in my hands and I’ve even had the DIP joint replaced in my left little finger. I had the right thumb DIP joint fused. I’m hoping for more joints to be replaced. I also have OA in my lower spine and left knee. It is such a painful condition!
Was your DIP replacement successful and do you now have restored mobility in that finger ? . My index finger ( dip ) is enlarged and v uncomfortable doing basic chores ( ironing, cooking prep etc ) . Would love to hear results of your operation so I can decide what to do . I’m seeing small enlargement in little finger too . Sorry to hear about your lower spine and knee ....sounds awful
JJ ......you got an excellent voice. nice short videos. I love listening to you. I was a doctor many years ago. Forgot a lot. (now i am an old man}. Nice to review with you. I saved many of your videos today to e mail to others and to my tool bar overhead
This has been really helpful as `I have developed a Heberdens node on my left hand small finger, it literally came over night, `I get pain in my mid lower spine and hips and shoulders. I try to keep as active as possible but the pain is lasting longer and spreading `I have noticed, so watching this has helped me get a greater understanding of OA and RA which is good.
We must have the same doctor. After 6 years of pain I have learned to become very assertive with my doctor and almost demand that she do something. She keeps insisting I’m fine. So far, unfortunately for me, I’ve diagnosed myself correctly every time and every time my doctor acts surprised.
Within a month, I was fighting crippling pain in my toes/feet/ankles/knees and my fingers/hands/wrists/elbows. Xrays showed the osteoarthritis inflammation. The Rheumatologist said there was nothing to do, no way to lessen or prevent it and only offered a Rx for pain medication. My D.O. suggested going to a diet without sugar, salt, meats, processed foods, dairy, cheese, etc. Within 30 days, all my pain went away! That was 3 years ago. Since then, if I cheat, I will feel it in my knees or fingers within 6-12 hours. 2 bites of a turkey thigh caused knee pain for the next 3 days. Cheating ain't worth it! - I've recently met a woman in her 30's and 200+ miles away a 19 year old who had terrible pain from gall bladder and large intestinal trouble. Both gave up meat and processed foods to eliminate their health problems. - Is the food industry killing us with all the chemicals they put in packaged foods and drugs used to rush the growth/maturity of animals we eat. Why can't American meat and many processed foods be sold to other markets in the world? It's because of the drugs in them, drugs that have been banned by most other countries worldwide!
Nice man thanks I had an idea I had it in one knee it happened with a long run and now I can't walk to far without pain so now I minimize walking to much
I had both my knees replaced due to osteoarthritis in my 40’s the pain was excruciating and I had to take so many painkillers I ended up with an ulcer. I’m now approaching my late 50’s and don’t regret my surgery at all
@@marywanjiku4255 try the carnivore diet eliminate inflammatory foods and eat beef , I cured my osteoarthritis this way . You can do either keto diet or carnivore it works .
I am 19 yrs old when I rotate my shoulder blades it makes crunching and clicking sound. Also when I do squats my right leg knee make some crunching sound. Can plzz help? Also I have no pain in knees and sometimes slight pain in shoulder when i carrying bags
I healed my osteoarthritis by eating the carnivore diet , I ate nourishing beef and lots of beef broth got rid of inflammatory foods and within a few weeks the pain went away .
Hello, how old are you? Where were your pains? How long did the pain last? Is there pain when going up and down stairs, or when squatting? how are you now
please remember that this video is text book diagnosis which is helpful BUT each person is different and can show symptoms differently, i myself suffer severe pain in my hands wrists and knee which keeps me awake , I'm a retired nurse, due to OA . pain done not always go away on rest
I had in Junction on my knee it helped a lot , I am sleeping better but still have pain in my knees a little which I say like having a bad ache like toothache
My pain with osteoarthritis is constant 24/7 can be sharp and can be throbbing, my hands and fingers and wrists I have to hold them , I have tried just about everything, going to do the strict diet no sugar as my last resort now.I am even getting pain in my shoulders now.
I often wonder if people who use their joints more than most, ie athletes are more prone to arthritis later in life than others. You never here about the physical impact of athletic training on people who are now in their 70's or 80's but surely they must suffer more than people who have led a more sedentary life.
I use to be super fit.. Many sport activities.. All my life from A child to my late 40's early 50's..Now i suffer from Arthritic Hip, (needs replacing).. Lumber back. Top of spine (neck) Knee. My fingers are starting.. And I was never a professional!! So can understand the wear & Tear on joints.. "oh the Joy's of getting older" 🙄🇬🇧
Used to be a gymnast and dancer, now I can barely walk more than twenty minutes before I am in pain, hands, shoulders and neck, lower back, hips, knees, ankles and feet. I’m 56 and have no quality of life any more.
Unfortunately for me , you are correct in thinking about the impact .. it's strange that I came across this blog and commented just a few minutes ago . Ballet , gymnastics , carelessness , pianists...etc do have an adverse effect . Just have to keep moving and smile through the pain .🙃
Yes I've worked since 15 yrs plus rescued dogs all sizes and rehomed some and just have 2 mediums sized one now, but walks now at 64 yrs are a struggle, but loathe to give in to a wheel chair.
JJ ,please how can I contact you. I really enjoy your teachings and it's given me lots of insights. I have all that you spoke about with Osteoarthritis. I just need to talk to u via zoom or just email u. Thanks for the simple but deeply meaningful ways u educate us. Blessings
I can service with this but cannot healing by the way it decrease more and I cannot walk and swelling alot what is the treatment for that doctor says replacement is the way to that u can walk
I have been diagnosed with OA. I have so much pain at night in my thumbs and hips. It does feel better in the rest of my joints with rest, but my hands, big toes, and hips hurt in rest and in activity. Not all OA is minus night pain
Defo got DIP in my right index finger it does too many chores and my left middle finger sometimes it's sore like a thorn is in it but nothing is there, many winter cold months doesn't help the cause I'm 64 do lots of manual stuff in garden and house live alone so my hands are doing too much...it is the cold that is making it worse ...the image I've now is similar but not that bad yet 😏v interesting least I know more I hadn't realized how involved it was...thanks
Is knee effusion liquid(lymph?) indicative of rheumatoid or osteo or both? And should it be aspirated during regenerative therapy such as with autologous platellet rich plasma (PRP) or with autologous stem cell fractions? Thanks for any info. I know you are busy.
@@Scott_Alex-Hi, I am a lot better thank you.I am following a Ketovore diet to the best of my ability and it is helping a lot. Even the pain in my knee (which Dr said I’ll need a knee replacement) is nearly always pain free. This way of eating is amazing.I hope you are keeping well? ✋🏻👍🏻🙋🏻♀️
You know it's weird but I'm a man I am only 34 and I have osteoarthritis throughout my hands in all my finger/ hand joints they all get swore stiff with swelling in all joints especially in the morning, and it is in all joints in both my hands. Sometimes even my feet I also was diagnosed with sciatica 2 years ago I thought I pulled something but I guess it was just sciatica since that's what they told me so my right leg/thigh is always numb and hurts to scratch along with normal sciatica pain which is sharp shooting pain from my head all the way to my feet on the right side, usually can't even sit or stand for more than 20 min at a time although now it switched to not hurting as much when standing or walking around but if I sit it starts hurting instantly so I can never sit and relax which sucks since I have multiple bone spurs in both feet on my heels which I believe is all probably due to the osteoarthritis throught my hands, vertebrae and joints, or my entire skeleton I guess, so ya work sucks especially since I'm only 35 and I work in a aluminum fab/ weld shop running saws cutting and carrying heavy peices of aluminum since it is mostly thick aluminum 3/4" up to 2" thick X 24 ' long lol so I carry it ,load it,then saw it then stack it all day long, so im always using my hands heavily lol to adjust clamps and clamping all day then of course I have to use my thumbs to hold the 2 buttons down to activate the saw and clamps which is the worst for my joint pain in my thumbs, I can't even open a car door or open push button screen doors due to my swore thumb joints there the worst for sure, so ya it sucks so I just use tounge depressers taped to my thumbs to keep my thumbs from being able to bend which causes bad pain stiffness swelling and causing lots of sharp pain. just hurting and getting swollen and hurting, honestly it feels like I sprained them almost so when I push them against anything it feels like there just sending backwards with no support it's weird and painful but you live with what you got and do what needs done, that is what men are suppose to do I guess it is our specialty lol. So between all that and running drills all day so e days and or welding, due to my hands not doing what I tell them to do and my joints/hands just being to damn swore or swelled to use correctly. So quite often I just feel like chopping my damn hands off along with my damn hip or leg it sucks lol, but i have to work and since I had to give up driving tractor trailers and even forklift a few years ago due to my sciatica and me not being able to sit long without my leg going so numb it hurts along with the shooting pain from head to foot down the side of my ass lol. But I now have to work 10hrs a day 6 days a week at minimum at the moment anyways lol. and i still struggle to keep the lights on like everyone these days I guess. All because It's almost impossible being a single parent household these day. With 3 teenagers 2 being girls and all 15-17 lol the fun age when they drive you nuts chasing boys and thinking they know more than everyone else especially me. Lol, but ya no one in my family has ever been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, or anything although I have 1 distant relative that had recurring bone spurs he had to get removed every few years as he got older around the age of 50. Aw and I last thing I almost forgot I was also diagnosed with scoliosis as a child and was suppose to wear a brace as a child but it made my back hurt so bad that I couldn't even breath , and the back pain also made it to where I couldn't relax my back as a kid or it would hurt so bad I would like, but then at about 14 my back pain went away and didn't come back until I was like 32 years old when I woke up and my back hurt I thought I must have pulled something but then it just never stopped hurting since. And it was just my leg was numb for a few years but only a tiny bit then like I said I woke up 1 morning and my leg was 100 times more numb to where it hurt and the sciatica pain hit me like a ton of bricks and hasn't went away since like 2 years now. And all this other stuff except the scoliosis , which I had as a child but then returned as an adult but everything else is all my other problems all started at the age of around 24-26 years old up till now and I'm 35 I believe anyways. But also I went back to the back doctor about 8-10 years ago when the pain came back and the doc said I had thousands of stress fractures throughout my spine which he said he thought it was from arthritis or something like that. I now believe it was actually osteoarthritis that caused my compression of L4 L5 vertebrae or at least caused my sciatica and the painful numbness and tingling sharp pain throughout my back and right leg and right side of my body it gets so numb it hurts. Then I cut my finger like 2 weeks ago from a fight with a table saw, I guess you could say lol. But it cut through about half my pinky finger starting from the outside tip of my pinky finger by the corner of my nail diagonally inward along the side of my nail about 1/16" from the edge of my nail ending behind my pinky nail bed smack in the center of my finger nail on my left hand, about a 1/4" from the back of my nail bed or cuticle, luckily it did not hit or mess up my nail bed, I also did not feel anything after my finger got cut by the table saw it was just a numbing like feeling, and it felt tingly kind of like my leg doe, lol soon everything will be numb lol, anyways After I got my pinky finger stiched back together by some resident or trainee the doc said he needed stitch training but then he ripped through half the skin he was trying to stich after just saying I QUOTE(I hope we have enough to hold it together there isn't much left here to connect to) but he gave me 5 stitches total and they thought it was weird since I couldn't feel it at all and it got both arteries in my pinky and I believe my nerve hince the numbing and no feeling, even when being stiched, and having laceration cleaned and spread apart and the doc said it was bad but they didn't even give me an x-ray which I thought was weird since my finger was hanging 90° degrees and was bleeding horribly and took multiple docs to stop bleeding after the stiched since I lost so much blood out of my tiny finger lol. But the doc had an intern that needed some practice so he did the stitching and him and the doc were not sure if the stitches would hold my finger together and they were worried about wether it would hold good enough for my finger to fuse back together and heal, but it definitely started to heal and fuse back together fast, it almost healed in 2 weeks, but after 2 weeks of me telling the ER docs and then my regular family doc repeatedly that I still had no feeling only tingling in my finger along with the only thing that hurt was my bone if I pushed on or even touched my pinky finger bone, because it would cause pain toshoot up my arm and throughout my entire hand and just felt like my bone but the numbness cause my feeling to be in other fingers instead of the one that should be hurting it was weird, and ikept telling them I thought it was broke and after 2 weeks he gave me an x-ray revealing an( avulsion fracture along the radial aspect of the base of the proximal phalanx). That's what the results say anyway lol. I have to go back to see doc tomorrow. But the results also say, Small chronic ossicles are osteophytes are noted at the base of the distal phalanx.which I already knew I had in my back but I guess that explains my hand / finger joint swelling stiffness and soreness and all my finger joints hurting also another thing is the osteoarthritis I have is affecting all my joints in each finger and they say that's rare its usually only the DIP and ,PIP finger joints but mine is also affecting the other joint the MCP joints. I have heard alot of different people saying it's even more rare to have osteoarthritis in my MCP joints. And all my joints have always cracked and popped alot my whole life. just from walking or squeezing my hands/fists shut. But I mean I look super healthy on the outside lol, but I guess my joints and bones tell a different story and are all falling apart fast, it is just all hidden on the inside of my body I guess. Everyone always says oh your still young and healthy looking you will be fine lol but I bet they would say different if they had the same problems and were still working 60-70hrs a week forcing themselves through the pain and forcing there hands to work the way you need them to. They would shut right up nobody knows what something is like until they go through something atleast similar.
Osteoarthritis can be caused by nutritional deficiencies have you tried the carnivore diet ? I've healed my osteoarthritis by doing that I'm now pain free . You get rid of all inflammatory foods and eat eggs and beef or just meat . I eat bone broth too and I increased the protein and took out the inflammatory foods and it went away .
Betty, for this and other videos that are spoken too quickly, go to the top right of the screen and you’ll see that the far right symbol is 3 dots on top of each other, click on that symbol and you’ll get a range of options, one of which is ‘Playback Speed’. Open that and you can select how much slower (or faster) you’d like the video to play. I hope this helps. 😊
Your Dad needs to ask his doctor for some time release morphine. It is abusive to have him bedridden because of pain. He could be having a nice life if his pain was under control. Speaking from experience.
@@bluewaters3100 wouldn't say it's abusive to be bed bound as it's better than him falling which could also kill him. Do I just ask his GP about the morphine.isnt morphine addictive
I disagree ! It is always said it comes from " wear and tear " , I strongly believe it comes from an improper diet that does not support healthy activity . Sugar , grains and oils will destroy a body . I avoid those now and my pain is gone . Now I have to increase protein ( meat ) to get strength back. I am 63 and I also avoid misleading govt info about diet .
Just a correction, I agree except for osteoarthritis is often also caused by a genetically inherited form of arthritis as well as overuse or wear and tear. Both are equal causes of this condition.
Really? Maybe it strengthens... But I personally find any weights gives me more pain.. 🙄 Can't lift, carry.. I feel SO OLD.. Arthritis is so frustrating... 🇬🇧
Please stop using the term wear and tear and it comes with age i was in my early 20s when i started to suffer ive had both knees fully replaced both elbows . I suffer badly from both hands .feet and spine drs make it sound like it comes with age and we should shut up and put up with this very painful condition im living proof it dont come with age
Planet Ayurveda’s treatment for osteoarthritis worked wonders for me. My joints used to be stiff and painful, but now the mobility has improved, and the pain has decreased significantly.
