"Most mappers get their first ranked maps after a few months". Excuse me what? I'm 3 years into the mapping, over 30 maps done, countless mods, effort and just now i might get a chance for sth ranked. But even that is a small chance. But i guess, life is rng.
When you said that the new BATs came in and a lot of them had already modded your map, I feel like I can never get a ranked map if that's the way things go. I have pretty much never had that happen to me before, not just that but in general I'm completely shut out from the mapping community. Even while modding it seems to just be taken as a "here's your mod, I'm out" sort of deal now. It's really discouraging cause there isn't a way to get into the community without getting ranked map but you need to be in community to do so. Do you think you could make a video in detail about coming into the mapping community?
hahaha, this video brings me back. i remember ringating too, i believe by that time i was somewhat known with a few ranked maps. I still remember getting background help from him xD
My first act of mapping was timing all 8:30 of Iron Maiden's Dance of Death and, without coming across your videos at that point, It's likely that I would have attempted to map it and go for ranked. Almost ready to publish my first actual mapping atempt so I'm bracing myself for being told it's a complete piece of trash.
if you want to get a map ranked, its about who you know, not your skill in mapping. because you have to know someone who can get your map qualified atleast.
I think the most difficult thing to do is putting theory into practice. So... hey guys, someone made a few mistakes for you to learn off, so, you know, appreciate and good luck.
I kind of recognize myself in this video (I'm a new mapper), but unlike you I haven't done any M4M. I'm just kind of scared to not see a lot of problems in the M4M map, and the guy would be disappointed. So I just try to ask for NMs but they're hard to get... ,_,
i did the same. i didn't want to give something bad in return for something good. i don't know, you can find nm queues from time to time you just have to be really fast. later on i made an own nm queue where i wrote i'm new to modding. because by then i had seen what others critizise on my map and then in return with my nm's i thought 'well they weren't giving anything in return and i wrote i'm new to it so i'm not feeling that bad about it'. worked out rather well, i still don't have a ranked map but 1.) i learned a bit about modding and mapping 2.) i could give something back and 3.) now i'd be at a point where i would be fine with doing m4m.
Lol it's been 4 years I've stopped playing since, but I mapped more than half of a 16 minute song, fully mapped a Teminite song, and otherwise don't care about ranking maps Good advice tho
I´m still new in these, but i´m kinda confused about some things. I wanna rank one difficulty map, i´ve read criteria, it seems to be okay, but still i don´t know how to do it. If i would upload my map to pending process, nobody would see it, and it would get in graveyard soon. I think i don´t know how it works. And i would really like to rank a map
I’ve wanted to get into mapping for quite some time now (mostly because I’m better as a creator than a player in almost all the games I play) but osu mapping looks very intimidating and I’m worried I’ll give up after I get some feedback on my first beatmap... I also barely understand the editor, so I’m waiting for osu!lazer to come out so I don’t have to learn two editors instead of only one :^)
You probably should start now if your really interested in mapping, because lazer will most likely still need around half a year to even think about a release and the editor itself isnt that complex to begin with. The hard part is to understand the dozens of mapping concepts you need to create a rankable map. And the lazer editor will probably just be a more optimized version of what you're able to look at on the present editor. pishi also made a video and explained the very first steps you take from opening the editor to placing your first note, so I suggest to give that a shot aswell.
Oh alright, will do so! I also have a break in a week so I’ll be able to focus a bit more on the editor, even though I’m busy with projects in another game :/
It mostly depends on what you want to map. Songs with a lot of BPM changes or offset changes will be hard to even time as a new mapper, so I'd recommend finding a song that has only one BPM throughout it. I think pishifat also recommended for mappers to learn mapping with a "comfortable BPM/song", that being ~175 BPM and DnB, as it usually has a fairly easy to hear rhythm etc. _During_ mapping you don't really need to know much about the 'Timing' panel, main thing you should mess around with is the slider velocity (by default going from 0.5x to 2.0x in Standard) with the timing points, that allows for separate sliders to go at different speeds without requiring halving or doubling the actual BPM just for them. It is fairly hard to get into though, I agree. I've mapped stuff every now and then for about 2 years (closing in on ~80+ random maps) and still stuff can be exhausting or just difficult to make.
so, how would you hitsound correctly your first map? seems like you completely missed to explain the first time you tried to hitsound your first ranked map, how hard and how perfect hitsounding has to be?
can someone please give me the power to map multiple diffs for my maps? I have only one song where I could bring myself to finish more than one diff and all the other ones are unrankable because of that
Hey pishi, could you make a video on sliders perfectly overlapping one another and whether its rankable or not. And if it is rankable than how should it be done? I have made a map diff lately with sliders overlapping one another and had lots of comments about how that pattern is unrankable (not to mention that it was the whole map gimmick). There are lots of complications going on around now with that, since slider perfectly overlapping each other rule has been moved to guidelines. osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/748267/#osu/1576377 This is the map i've been working on, if you needed that example.
if it's a gimmick and people can understand it then there's your reason that it should be allowed, because it's playable and the gimmick fits with the song.
can anyone make this songs ranked "short but seems long time of our life" the song is from fear and loathing in las vegas, i don't want to make it myself cuz i think i'm not good enough to make one and i think no one will ever notice it cuz i'm not popular like monstrata. Hope someone make it ranked 😊
i just finished my first map and would like to get different opinions on it. if you would be as kind as to check it out it's called "welcome to the virtual park" by izzykun thanks ;w;
Sad lyfe. I make the first beatmap with zero experience sience(?) 2016, i make the first map actually and dunno how the rule of mapping did it works. And yeah, my first map got grevyard after i uploadin.
