Bikko said himself that he is missing an eye! He lost his left eye during his military service. His username was inspired by a doujin character, named Bikko, made by Yoshida On who is also missing on of her eyes.
This is an excellent video. One detail you should mention: apparently there is only one Bikko liveplay that exists that he sent to staff when accused of cheating a long time ago. Only peppy and maybe other staff have seen it, and they didn't restrict him. I think this is covered in the Willy video.
@@alencia727 the icon is drawn by kaede(sayappa) and is the cover of an 18+ asmr from tegurayuki doujin circle, named "s*x life with shirakagi.(uncensor the star mark)"
I have a decent theory about the slider weirdness and the specific kind of touchscreen he used. Infrared touchscreens are very unique due to the fact that they track above the screen rather than through pressure on the screen. This means that depending on the speed of the slider and how you dragged through them, the infrared sensor may not have actually kept up with the movement of his finger especially with a 2009 screen like the one he used.
2:40 "Touchscreens for osu! were almost unheard of during this era" This is false, back in the early days of osu!, many players had migrated from ouendan and elite beat agents and using a touchscreen was, maybe if not more used, certainly more relevant than it is today. Many top players used touchscreen back then, such as former #1 player Cyclone.
great video! small note for 3:25 - there still is not an official rule disallowing that, as far as i know. nobody seems to use that method in this era, though some players have static HP bars that extend out over the playfield with visual references (usually just a symmetrical grid shape)
There's a highly prevailing theory that Bikko actually started a family, hence why he's moved on from the game and not come back. If I recall correctly, he was already pretty old when he started playing (around 20-ish years old?) in 2010 and there has been a lot of speculation ever since he quit that he has a son and is instead putting his family above anything else, hence the complete and sudden disappearance. I really don't know how true this is or not as it is only a rumor (no one has confirmed nor denied this as far as I know), but if true that could explain what happened to him.
Yeah, it hasn't been good for the game, Osu!'s systems and rankings are a fucking laughingstock compared to even something like BMS. It's like looking from the outside on American healthcare or something as uniquely dysfunctional.
@@cyanplaza5153 yup. I at least like how mania uses better scoring tho then again it's just a beatmania/bms clone. would be nice if they had an equivalent of "ex scoring" but looking at the game and it's history doesn't seem likely and so if i were an accuracy player in the game i would just switch games which is kinda a bad situation to put players in
I mean, the game is primarily an aim game not an accuracy game. While I still consider it a rhythm game, I don’t think accuracy is the main focus, so it kind of makes sense to prioritize combo since the game is encouraging good aim, and if you have good enough aim ideally you won’t break combo. Accuracy players can still beat out non accuracy players on the leaderboards, they just have to have the aim to full combo maps. I don’t see that much of a problem with it. And 99% vs 97% on a map will usually give vastly different amounts of pp. I’m not sure the penalty for low accuracy is enough and I think it could be increased, but it is there
I used to be fine with Combo Scoring until I started playing other rhythm games like Sound Voltex and Etterna. Now I just think combo Scoring is just completely senseless
The current scoring system is bad, but straight accuracy scoring would not work for osu at all, it's a hard line to draw when there is more to the game than just accuracy.
13:38 Not at all his first 500 PP play. Due to high AR rebalance in February 2015 (less than a month after Bikko's play) Silent Voyage +HDHR changed from 434 to 502 pp. However, in April 2015 there was another change: play got nerfed to 485 pp.
Great video with a lot of research behind it good job. If you allow constructive criticism though, i just think its a little odd that you play a bit of the song from his scores, and then switch to new music when you begin talking, i think the mood of the video swings kinda fast because of it. Thats not a knock on you or anything just mentioning. still good video.
The few seconds at the beginning of some scores is just to introduce the score itself. The BG music is specifically to encapsulate the mood/emotion of the storyline better, as I actually can't stand when rhythm game documentaries use the default video as the music for the most part. I always found it lazy and never felt emotionally connected to what's going on as a result, but I can see where you're coming from.
He will always be my favorite player in Osu! history, and even though I haven't really played this game much at all in many years, I still log in from time to time to play starrodkirby maps (best mapper
@@EtienneYT It's kinda weird to point that out. Better would be if you just put that she goes by she/her as not everyone likes being public about it. Otherwise very well done video though. :)
I personally think bikko is legit bc there isn’t that much proof that he’s cheating. The tournament he was in still has a clip of bikko playing against angelsim.
