I run a small air pressure regulator and use hose crimping pliers and tee into a heater hose or an air bleed line and use the shop compressed air to test the cooling system and cap at the same time. After being a tradesman for 25 years ya might find that buying adaptors and pressure testers becomes pretty expensive when every vehicle seems to have a different cap.... As well as the pressure tester pumps being a clunky tool and ceasing to pump or hold pressure.... Those hard to find leaks.... I dump the coolant and use the shop's smoke tester. Plenty of ways to skin a cat without breaking the bank constantly.

Great post. As a DIYer I am going to go with your approach when working on my own cars. Thank you!

Yeah that’s a good idea but Newer cars require you to vacuum fill the system so you end up having to buy adapters anyways.

Thanks for all the great videos , you have helped me buy smart , and quality tools , I am in my second year at a Lexus dealership, and boy has it made a difference not only with tip but with the tools I use thanks to you. You are the master. Keep it up!

I've been needing something like this for a while. Our fleet is so diverse that it is vary difficult to get adapters for everything. Especially for testing the caps. We have side by sides, skid steers, 4 wheelers, all kinds of trucks, generators, light plants....the list goes on. This tool will be a vary welcome addition.

That's a nice setup other than no pressure release valve. I would have to retrofit something. Thankfully as a diesel mechanic I only had to have 3 adapters until recently. But now being "retired", I don't have to worry as much about it 😁 OTC has made good tools for many years, it's nice you have them sponsoring you. Cheers brother

That’s a really good idea. That thing will work pretty much across the board. Even if you are doing trucks,equipment,cars, etc. Only need the one tool. Thanks.

This setup would be a great way of checking heater cores before installing them.

Do a little mouth suction test before in heater cores ?

Love it! I very rarely do pressure tests so I wanted a lower cost option. like you I work at an independent shop id need a million adaptors.

WOW, what a great idea. Why didn't I think of that. I just bought 2 adapters last month for $75. Pretty much you could buy the adapters until the end of time the old way.

I Really Like My Matco Tester That Uses Shop Air. I Can Pop the air hose off & Release the Pressure Through the Valve.

I bought the harbor freight coolant system tester, I’ve only used the Chevy adapter about 3 dozen times & it works great. I’m sure all the outher adapters work good too I believe I spent $60-80 I can’t remember

Advance has a sweet kit we borrow all the time...it's like a $400 kit I always say I'm gonna buy it someday but we don't borrow it that much

Great video. Interesting tool and looks like a money saver. The only reason to buy tools is to make money 💴. Thanks for showing you pumped up the pressure to only 13 pounds.

That is a lot to spend when I already have the Stant tester and a few adapters. That did give me an idea though ... it wold be nice if they offered a hose and fittings kit only. You could simply use any pressure gauge in line and a tank like the Motive Brake bleeder which has a gauge, or possibly a tank sprayer even. As long as you can connect into the heater core line, can generate pressure and measure it with tight connections, that is a neat idea.

We used to go by the Owatanna Tool Co. Just off of I35 In Owatanna Minnesota often when we went to my grandmas house as a kid. I wander if it’s still there? I’ll have to look on Google Maps to see.

Not a fan of OTC/Bosch after the issue with my KTS scan tool (makes a good paper weight these days), but I wish that this had been created years ago. I have nine (9) AST cooling system adapters for my Stant pressure tester and those adapters cost a small fortune these days. And, yeah, that universal adapter that you show in the video is in my opinion worthless; I've had it shoot off like a rocket....

Ford has something similar, for those plastic push lock lines on the degas bottle. It does the same as the OTC.

Snap on kit is garbage I had one. I now have the master ATD kit. It was 200 bucks on eBay and has every adapter you will need. The kit is 3 years old and still every adapter is leak free. My snap on kit was over 600 bucks and the adapters leak all the time.

A rig like this one, I also would wonder how hard it would be to turn it into a vacuum fill setup as well? The adapters for vacuum fill sets are just as expensive too! I bet that a few fittings and an inexpensive vacuum fill setup and this might work pretty well attached to a radiator tank in some applications. Just a thought.

Sweet , BUT , Every heater/coolant hose is connected to some brittle piece of plastic , that I will no doubt break . Funny , I commented before last part of video.

Can you test a cooling system between the reservoir and the radiator if the car has a cap on the radiator or do u have to T into the heater hose?

FLAT RATE MASTER ..// what testing tool do you use to test and check the temperature gauge in your cars dashboard is working correctly or is not working correctly? what do I use to test the temperature gauge? ... / how do you test what the PSI level of the radiator is at while the car is running?
@lovetolearn5253

Lol did the same thing with the same tool, coolent went everywhere. It's hard to find reliable tools. I don't think people understand how much trust you have to put in to your tools ( example is it the tool leaking or the car when you don't see it) that goes for everything torque wrench ext.

Will the coolant overflow hold pressure?
@flatratemaster
@flatratemaster 4 года назад
It will hold pressure to the limit of the cap, if it is a 15 psi cap it will bleed off pressure at 16 psi
