Based on the suit, I think this is the Monterey Pop festival the year he died. The same show some of the best Janis Joplin footage is from. Where Janis and Jimi Hendrix were introduced to the world. Speaking of Jimi, there was a live album released of the Monterey Pop show. One side was Otis, the other side was Jimi. What a combo.
Jamel, I don't know how / who makes decisions about what you should hear but I know you like GENUINE live music. I have just watched some again and it is fantastic. Otis performing on Ready Steady Go, a live UK show. Amongst a number of other numbers he performs I Can't Turn You Loose. Then there is a live concert in Paris where he performs Shake. Go for it!!
He stole Monterey. Packed it up and walked off with it. Watch the whole set. OMG. The Who, Jimi and Janis played. And he thefted that show right out from under them.
@@loadedorygun Yeah Ive seen the whole festival, on video that is. Yeah they weren't expecting anything like Otis. Or Jimi, the Who, Janis, Ravi, wish I'd been around, I was still in mom til right after.
I am 74 years old and grew up listening to music and artists like this. In my opinion and again my opinion, music back then was soulful, full of feeling, easy to listen to.
His wife said he called her before he got on the plane that ended his life and told her he felt something bad was about to happen. Pasty Cline had a similar premonition before she died in a plane crash.
This here, this right freakin' here, is why the label "soul music" is so apt. You can't listen to Otis Redding emoting like this without feeling a stirring in your very soul. As the man says, good god a'mighty.
This is from the Monterey Pop Festival- one of his greatest performances EVER. I’ve been waiting for your reaction to this for a Loooong time! Thanks Jamel- I’d give this a hundred thumbs-up if I could.
This was the greatest pop festival ever. The breakout performances by Otis, Janis and Jimi were flawless. I'm a Jimi Hendrix nut, and his 50 minutes at Monterey is my favorite concert set ever. It was two years before Woodstock, and there was no rain, traffic jam, or brown acid.
@@jiminut I thought it was Woodstock but have seen both films so Im probably confusing the two. My daughter watched Monterey with me aged about 12 and she loved it, especially Ravi Shanka.
@@jiminut "Don't take the brown acid, it's not poisonous man, it's just baad acid" When Jefferson Airplane came on Grace Slick said "sorry you got the bad acid, we got the blue"!
The Bee Gees wrote "To Love Somebody" for Otis to record. When Otis was tragically killed in the crash, the Bee Gees recorded it themselves and dedicated it to his memory. A great soul talent taken way too soon. This is Otis at his best. Add on: Otis wrote Aretha Franklin's hit, "Respect" The man accomplished much in his short 27 years. Wow.
Otis Redding’s voice will always give you goosebumps. He was magnificent and so was his voice. He was only 26 years old when he died and he had accomplished so much; I wish we could have seen and heard that amazing talent for longer than we did. Great job; and I loved your reaction.
That is the definition of soul. No disrespect to Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Jackie Wilson and many others but Otis is one of a kind. You must react to 'Try a Little Tenderness'.
What a talent! Otis's legend lives on here in Macon, GA. His family carries on his legacy with the Otis Redding Foundation, helping young folks develop their musical talents. Thanks, Jamel!
Otis always touches the soul of the listener. He was all voice and passion. Another great song by Otis is “I’ve Got Dreams To Remember” always brings tears to my eyes.
This is my kind of music, that I love!! I would hope that one day, songs like this would come back. I truly appreciate remembering when, music was really good.
NONE BETTER-Period!!! and at 69 years old I've heard all the greats. Can you imagine what we would have heard from Otis if only we had not lost him so early in his life. What a Shame he passed so young.
Dude! I was sitting here looking at the goosebumps on my arm and then you said you had goosebumps! Otis always gives me goosebumps. I don’t like sappy love songs, but Otis brings a whole other realm.
I would hazard to say that anyone in the developed world with access to media over the age of 7 has heard the beginning of Green Onions. They may not know that's what it is, but they have heard it. Great jam session turned hit single.
@@shannonp1656 You can throw 'Green Onions' on the turntable at just about any party and watch people get out on the dance floor, loosen up, talk and laugh. That one and Junior Walker's 'Shotgun'.
I saw Neil Young, Finsbury Park, London in the early 1990's. Booker T & The MG's were his band. To see Steve Cropper and Donald Duck Dunn was certainly an experience. I grew up with the film The Blues Brothers but to see them in the flesh was beyond words.
And to think this amazingly talented artist was only 26 when he tragically perished in that plane crash. Edit: It's a crime that when you Google "Soul Singer" Otis Redding's picture doesn't appear.
Ok I'm crying but good tears cuz mom and dad danced around our living room to this song and When A Man Loves a Woman! Dad passed at 58 almost 16 years ago. Thank you for this reaction💙
Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, James Brown, Otis Redding. Jamel thank you thank you thank you for reacting to this performance, it's a good one, and I hope it's new! The companion to this is Otis Redding -- Try a Little Tenderness (live), it may sound familiar, but brother you ain't heard nothing yet!
Just fantastic, one of the greatest singers ever. When he came on the radio I stopped whatever I was doing and just went to that place with him. Thanks for bringing him to a new generation. R.I.P Otis Redding.
1967 live at Monterey Festival, lot of hard rock groups, outdoor audience of the '60s, mixed crowd, young hippies and Otis killed it! He had them in his hands. He also did Try a Little Tenderness. These Arms of Mine is another one that brings a tear. Mr. Pitiful and Tramp which he did with Carla Thomas, daughter of Rufus Thomas.👍👍👍👍 He never disappoints.❤ Love to see you really appreciating his talent.❤
Yes, more Otis. Can't get enough of Otis❤️one of my favorites of his are "that's how strong my love is" there are some losses that set back the music industry (and world for that matter) so much and Otis is one of those among with Freddie Mercury and some others, just think how many more great songs we could have had.
Otis! Omg my favorite!! I'll tell u my friend idk if you've ever been to the Rock & roll hall of Fame, but when I was there probably ten or more yrs ago they had a peice of the plane he crashed in. I was not prepared for that. Every other display was like Springsteen's teeny tiny jeans (he was skinny!) And with Otis it's the plane he died in... I am not too proud to tell u I sat down & cried like he was my own family. I tried to just tear up a bit & walk away, but it just hit me hard hard. Here I am sitting on the floor& everyone is looking at me like I'd lost my mind...this sweet lil old lady comes up & she's like "you ok baby?" I said "he was so young..." She said "I know baby...but let me just tell u, it's beautiful to me that this young white girl is so moved by someone from my generation that she's crying on a floor" then I got up & hugged her & said " thank you" & walked away ... Mr Otis Redding has gotten me through alot of dark times. He deserved someone sitting on the floor crying for him in front if God and everyone... I owed him that respect
Otis Redding -- What a POWERHOUSE performer and an amazing talent. His recordings were really great, but there was NOTHING like watching him perform LIVE. I can't think of any artist that compares to him live. Gone far too soon. RIP, Otis. We still love you.
The Black R&B Soul music is the best to me from the 50's through the 80's. So many great musicians out there or were out there that we've been lucky to listen to. It's my favorite type of music. I know you did a video regarding people asking you to react to this kind of music and you saying you grew up on this music and know it but it is still nice to see how it makes you feel like this reaction
Merely one of the great live performances of the R&B/R&R era. The beauty of this same 1967 Monterey Pop Festival was that Jimi Hendrix's performance of "Wild Thing" remains one of the most shocking live performances of all time, and Janis Joplin's performance of "Ball And Chain was another of the great live performances of this era. Even to this day. Before Woodstock, this festival was the standard for live performances. RIP to three of the best who ever did it.
I was born in 1970 I have my mom to thank for Motown, the Philly Sound and of course artists like Otis and my dad well all that awesome classic rock.. Beatles, Led Zepplin, Queen and my personal favorite Pink Floyd and countless others love em all and appreciate you experiencing them. I love your reactions!
