I’ve loved Otis Redding since I was 6 years old and my mom played him all the time. I remember all these emotions that I didn’t even know how to use yet would be invoked by listening to his voice. I’m 43 now and cherish his music and the memories of my mom. But also I relate so much more to his music now that life has taken me on a roller coaster ride! Lol PLEASE react to I’ve Been Loving You Too Long by him. I promise you won’t regret it. 💜

He and Sam Cooke not to mention Jackie Wilson were major influences on folks. If you can listen to him do Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. George Harrison and the Rest Of The Beatles sent him a Telegram that said "Otis You Have Our Respect". He wrote the song which of course became Aretha Franklin's Signature Song. Of if you can, watch him on Ready Steady Go in 1967 before he died, he bought the house down.

In 1968 Otis Redding died.iwas 18 then. That day several predominately ariican american high school students went to the streets to honor his passing and to show their grief. He was probably the best soul singer of that time ,regarded by many young black kids as more authentic than motown

Otis Redding died at age 26 in a plane crash in a lake on his way to a concert. The crash also killed most of the then members of the soul/funk band the Bar-Kays, except for one member, Ben Cauley, who survived. Singer William Bell released a tribute song about Redding titled, "Tribute to a King."

Otis is the the best ever. I am English and I grew up to this. There has been good, very good music since, but nobody can replace this man. I cried when he died, the world has missed so much! I believe I have every track he ever recorded. If there is a God, he put Otis here and gave him this voice and then took him away. I struggle with that!

Otis is one of my favorites! If you want a lesson in great music, tune into the Otis Redding station on Spotify. Lots of his classics plus other artists from that era. Listen to his song Sittin on the dock of the bay, it was one of the last he recorded. He intended to write and record another verse so he whistled on the track when he recorded it. Sadly, he died in a plane brash before he ever got to do that. The record company decided to leave the whistle in as Otis left it. His last name is pronounced red (like the color) ding.

I love Otis, too. Sometimes, when I think about how talented he was, and what he could have achieved if his life hadn't been cut short at 26, it makes me cry. It was all there for him - songwirter, variety show host, movie star - anything if he wanted it. And I love all the songs everyone is posting, but strangely enough, my favorite Otis song is Mr Pitiful. Very different from the mournful ballads, but from what I've read, that's how this song came about - DJs used to call him Mr. Pitiful because of those songs. I know you did some Barbara Lynn (love her!) songs in the past. They were clips from a TV show called The!!! Beat. It was hosted by Hoss Allen, a very popular DJ on WLAC in Nashville. A radio station that was responsible for getting a lot of this music out to other parts of the country. Hoss was known to imbibe, and the story goes that he had just been told that the show was being cancelled. And he did what Hoss did. They pulled him off the show, and made Otis (a guest that week) the host. And he did a fantastic job - why I even suggest the variety show host thing, because he had already proved he could do it.

FWIW, "Try a Little Tenderness" was written in 1932 and recorded by many artists in the 30s as a simple ballad. Redding's version was a very different and remarkable reading and arrangement of the song. By way of contrast, here is a 1933 recording by the great Ruth Etting. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a9xBMbGB1k8.html
