Otis is the definition of the triple threat. Vocals, Guitar, and Writing

Renowned for his unorthodox style and distinct sound, Otis Rush took the audience of the 2001 Chicago Blues Festival on a haunting journey with this powerful rendition of “So Many Roads So Many Trains”. Penned by Paul Marshall, Rush was the original artist to record that now-classic number which was released back in 1960 with “I’m Satisfied” as the B-side.
so powerful this man, hits the notes and wails the blues like a man in pain from a full life of experiences the true way it should be played its why hes influenced hendrix srv and buddy guy
Gotta love him just for that Tag Heuer he has on.......lol I had one just like it cause they were the watch to have back then. Otis we will miss you bro
Excuse me. Am I late to the brawl? Mr. Rush paid his dues for a 2 lifetimes. He doesn´t play the blues, he IS the blues. Please check yourself before any disrespectful comments are launched.
Yes sir! Paying your dues is what makes a “Bluesman” because the blues is not music, it’s a feeling like no other genre of music can replicate, except maybe blues/rock.
This dude invented half the tones, phrasing, vibes, riffs and vocal stylings etc. that were later adopted by most famous British blues rock musicians. He is the main artery. Kneel in suplication. Just kidding. About kneeling.
Thanks to those who posted informative comments here. "The blues" is a vast musical field. I'm still expanding my listening. But I can already tell...this gentleman was *good*!
Yeah, Otis was one of the best, and with a tendency to play behind the beat. And a formidable tension and release player. On an old Delmark LP, "So Many Roads, Live in Concert", there's another one of Otis' blistering takes of "So Many Roads". Recorded in Japan, July 1975.
was this the last time? I remember that nite, it poured.. and you still saw a lot of people standin in the rain. At least a few thousand. pourin down. I had my new white fedora, the best I ever had, and it was 'wrecked'. but nothin stopped us. we had to see our Otis, and holler YEAH /WHOA -thank-you OTIS!
Just learned he has his guitar strung backwards. Probably very little investigating would have told me that but I just saw it. I have like 8 albums of his and everyone is amazing. How can this only have 13000 views.
It's all about how you first started to learn it's no different than strings right side up or right with strings upside down it all makes no difference. It's just how you learned and play.
@roussos87...right on the money.. high notes were his bitches...he just shredded ,bent , twist them made them howl like a dog in heat.....this dude may be the baddest left handed pure blues player the world has ever seen.. i've seen him do stuff that borders on the impossible......
Hay un escalon mas arriba de algo que es bien ejecutado o llevado a cabo... es el de sentirlo. Y tocar puede tocar cualquiera hacer sentir... es otra cosa
Hey, "zythesparin" let Otis be Otis. He's entertained people for years. If you don't care for his playing ability that's fine. I'm sure you play a fine guitar but there will always be people who won't appreciate your sound also. Not to say you can't play it's just that people will always have different taste for different genres of music. I don't mock any musician even if he or she is not to my liking.

Otis Rush is the Original (+ John Mayall, b. 1933 can Still sing this Very Well, too.. & After 60+ years^^; am sure he paid Otis Rush Royalties/similar.. unlike what Little Richard got back then due to bigoted, very greedy Managers/Producers, etc.. 1950's & +/- //read pls read about the 1920's Robert Johnson in detail, too^^ as Eric Clapton, The Stones, et al Studied his genius way ahead of his time with Crossroads & more legendary🌅🗽🌉💝🎆🎄🎇🎐
So you just play in the basement? And you put down Rush? There is no accounting for taste but Otis Rush has more soul in 1 note than most guitarists have in a 1000. You show your inexperience/appreciation of what " Blues" is all about. It's NOT about how many notes you play or being perfectly in tune! Not sure what your definition of "good" is but it isn't what someone that knows Blues is. Sorry if you think I'm "bothering" you but when you offer an opinion back it up with knowledge.
lol it's the same you think it's more difficult because you are right handed but it's the same and it's actually easier to bend that way that's way albert king bends 2 notes
Actually, right handers got it wrong. The guys that made up guitar 500 years ago was what we now call dyslexic! Why would anybody in his right mind put bass on top and treble on the bottom? That defies the laws of physics. It's also completely in reverse of how the staff is written. No, Otis Rush has it exactly right!
Why then don't you put up some of your music? I mean you omust have some recorded music right? Any label sign you up as an artist? Which one? Let us know please. You talk big but like all the "gunslinger" guitar players out there you just don't get it. To you music is competition because probably you lack size in another part of you. Post some of your amazing music dude.
