Just finished reading On that Bombshell last night. Turns out my local library had it, so read it on that free side of things. Sweet sweet book.

Top Gear stories are great, though Fifth Gear stories are also great; it wasn't as popular (or well funded?) of a show but they did lots of interesting things. Hope for a Fifth Gear question special with Jonny sometime! Also thinking of the early days of Top Gear blowing up in the US, so much of it came down to the FinalGear website ran by Viper007Bond (Alex Mills), not someone I knew in person but we were both moderators on a popular car forum back in the 2000s and I interacted with him a lot as FinalGear blew up, a genuinely good guy he seemed who was just enthusiastic about cars and the show and he didn't let running FinalGear go to his head, he was there to serve and he did it with a lot of positivity. He died of leukemia in 2019 at just 34 so wanted to remember him for a moment.

Funny that the US audience couldn't square the UK format, but yet there are countless people that torrented the original and adored it (eg. Matt and Zack from The Smoking Tire). I guess broad appeal is a different thing than niche viewing...
