You will see same items on sale every 6 weeks from most of the Canadian retailers. But, todays sale item were regular priced in 2022 as most of the items price went up more than 30% and now the sale of selected at 30% discount.
@Lucysmom26
@Lucysmom26 9 месяцев назад
Agree, today's "sale" prices are just the regular prices a couple of years ago. 2.99 for a dozen eggs, 4.99 for a pound of butter used to be the regular price, now it's a huge sale.

Eggs, butter and bread on sale rotate week by week and store by store in many places and great deals are available to those with the time to go to the right store at the right time.

Perhaps a way to slow down the corporate greed that is driving inflation would be rotating targeted boycotts of grocery chains. Something needs to be done for consumers to say enough is enough!

It only wouldn't work if people didn't participate in large enough numbers. Yes, people need groceries but they don't need to buy them in the same stores. Something needs to be done, groceries are going up weekly for no other reason than they are allowed to get away with it. @@titusmccarthy

Great, but horrific that prices are so disgustingly high while the greedy big grocery stores are making record-setting profits, year after year, while everyday people are struggling to stay fed.

And the nerve of them to start crying that it will cause higher prices when the government starts talking about regulation etc.! Anyone who falls for that crap deserves to be paying $6 for a dozen eggs.

With carbon taxes and all the added government grabs trucking anything in is expensive and farmer anything in Canada Is unaffordable.. biggest cost are these liberal vultures. It's ridiculous how much prices fluctuate with sales. Apples can be $2.50/lb one week and $0.67 the next. Cucumber $2 vs $0.80. Yogurt $3 vs $2. Highliner Fish $18 vs $7. 10% cream $3.50 vs $2. 10lb onions can be $9 vs $2. The price gouging and ripping off of consumers is insane!!!! I have to check all flyers every week as well.

Carbon taxes ... Kills our farmers and makes it barely affordable...therefore they have to raise the price ... Also carbon taxes , tariffs and other rampant red tape liberal garbage junk also makes trucking anything expensive !!! Not rocket science talk to a farmer and listen to the absolute hatred they have for the current government

Why are some grocery stores offering significant price drops to "members". For example, a box of cereal for $7.00 but the "member price" would be $3.50.. it's ridiculous. They do this at the Independent Grocery Store in Vanier on Montreal Road, and they even do it at the pet store.

I went to Super C to do some Christmas shopping and they didn't have half of what I wanted so I decided to buy it all at Provigo. The things I could have gotten at Super C were sometimes 2x as much at Provigo, so I spent way more (at least $20 iirc) than if I shopped in two places. It depends on the deals.
@patricialawlor1644
@patricialawlor1644 9 месяцев назад
it may be more convenient and that is what the grocery stores are counting on but it certainly isn't the way to get the best deals. you are not going to be driving all around town for stores but for example I have 6 different grocery stores within 5 to 10 minutes from me and I access all of them online before I go out with list in hand. It may take time but in the end it's worth it
@tothelighthouse9843
@tothelighthouse9843 9 месяцев назад
Running around town in a car to save a dollar here or a dollar there--no, that won't save you money. But stores count on the convenience factor of one-stop shopping, & use a few sale prices to lure you in to do your whole shop there. You may save a couple bucks on the sale items, but everything else you pay regular price. If you can bike, walk or use transit, doing your shopping in two stores instead of just one will save you quite a bit. And if you add in another store, you can really max your savings. Also using membership pricing & buying in bulk. It takes time & energy, but for those of us on very tight budgets, that's the price we have to pay so we can afford to eat.
@Lucysmom26

@@patricialawlor1644 That's what I do too, Patricia. I live centrally in a big city and don't own a car so it's possible to do it all on foot (which I do). I know not everyone has the time or is in the same circumstances but for those who are, it's pretty doable.

Believe this or not, it's not always about money for all people. A community service like this is its own reward, and I'm not sure why the reaction to people who aren't rich is often an automatic 'well, this is how to make more money.' What if someone is OK with not being wealthy or even middle class?
@Hello-ge5vx

Yeah unfortunately we have lives (families), jobs to work, and bills to pay so we don’t have time and gas money to shop around 5 groceries to get our groceries done. I wonder what you do for a living since you seem to have all this time on your hands.
@DanielFromTheHighlands
@DanielFromTheHighlands 9 месяцев назад
Some stores price match - so having the list handy (and knowing what your store carries) will help you in price matching all of these items at one location. If there's something you really want then go to the other store if you want it that badly. Also, some people have time where they play video games, and others they get a kick out of sales (I used to enjoy taking advantage of Shoppers Drug Marts points promos). But it is time consuming for anything someone enjoys. It's possible he doesn't have a family and by doing this he is helping those that do with time they do not have. Instead of criticizing, we should be thanking.

@@DanielFromTheHighlands ever since the pandemic and the out of control inflation crisis, most of my local grocery stores stopped price matching. About people getting a kick out of saving at the grocery store, uh trust me, i know, my parter’s dad is twenty times worse than this guy in this CBC video. It’s sad, like he forbids himself from ever sitting down in a restaurant and dining in, even when someone else is inviting him. He has money fyi and he travels to places like australia. Regarding flipp, the app that he mentioned, that app has been around for yeeeears since back when i was in uni so i dont get why this fella and cbc are acting like they invented the uninvented. Its just that when I was a student. yeah maybe Id go to some lengths to save money by checking out flipp but after i got a job and a career and a partner, i havent had time for this nonsense of shopping at different grocery stores to save money. I was even thinking of deleting flipp since i rarely use it anymore.

@Hello-ge5vx
@Hello-ge5vx 9 месяцев назад
@@justinhughes3518very nice indeed, i do appreciate hes trying to help but cbc is beating around the bush. Surely they dont expect us to travel between 5 different grocery stores every time we do the grocery run. The CBC is not tackling the bigger issue which is ridiculous inflation, instead, suggesting what this man is doing, as a solution we should live with. Also, as someone who’s lived abroad, this system that we have in north america should be changed altogether. In other countries they have lower prices all year round and when they do have sales its like 10-20% max unlike here were the price of something in a grocery store changes by like 50% and then people are excepted to drop what theyre doing and run after these crazy deals like they have nothing better to do. So yeah CBC can talk about that instead of implying we should do what donovan is doing.
