there was a back story. I dont remember it but there was one at some point. He was a regular Captain and he had a brother. I dont remember the details. Something about someone being poisoned.

he was sold with his brother as his father owed a debt. they were forced to work on a ship. then he became a pirate cause their kingdom knowingly sent them(him and his brother) on a mission to retrieve a poison.
