I was sent a video over a decade ago of people doing dangerous jumps into a body of water which had concrete or rock embankments, a young man hit face first and split his head open. It was the most horrific video I’d ever seen, because they showed his face in hospital, and he was still alive for three days in that state. I was angry and sad, angry at the young man for his recklessness and sad for what he put his family through, they were no doubt there when he mis judged his jump.

She seemed to do what toddlers do, which is to do a tiny leap up and then hope they make it to their destination. Toddlers do this because they have little or no grasp of concepts yet, a girl in her teens really should understand enough concepts to know that you need more than hope to leap a distance, you mostly need effort.

My friend died doing this in 2006. He was only 19. I think about him to this day.
