Today we’re giving you a full tour of our $460 Japanese apartment in Kobe!
In this JET Programme apartment tour, we’ll show you our entire 2LDK apartment, and some of the special Japanese features and home goods that we’ve furnished it with! This is a typical example of a 2LDK apartment in Japan (2 rooms, living, dining, kitchen area), so if you want to move to Japan this type of home is very common in cities. Our rent is around ¥53,000 which comes to around $460 or £340 per month. Please enjoy our Japanese apartment tour, and don’t forget to subscribe to see more of our life in Japan!

Wow your apartment is gorgeous! Love the way you've kitted it out :) I've just moved into a smaller city near Kyoto (also with the JET programme) - my apartment is the same price but about half the size and with some mould issues 😭 But hoping to clean it all up - it'll be looking cute and comfy soon!
@wegoeast
@wegoeast 2 года назад
Thank you! I hope you're enjoying Japan so far! Sorry about the mould :( But don't despair, look for Kabi Killer (カビキラー) which is great for getting mould off bath rooms and tiles etc. Vinegar and soap works on more delicate stuff. Also you can prevent mould by buying these humidity absorbers from drug stores (170 yen ish) and putting them EVERYWHERE in your house

Tatami is awesome... It is great insulation in the very cold winters, it smells nice (especially if your room is big enough for you to lay on it at the end of a busy day), and it is resistant to spilled drinks (if it isn`t too old), easily wiped clean with a damp rag (even red wine!).
@wegoeast
@wegoeast Год назад
We like the aesthetic of tatami, but it's really annoying if you want to have non japanese style furniture. Tatami is super easy to damage with furniture 😭

Ah JPY52,000 for such a large place. My tiny room in this sharehouse costs me JPY57,000 a month and it's 1/4th the size of this place. But then again I live in Tokyo. =')

The joy's of Tokyo! All of our tokyo friends say the same thing, amazing city to live in but the housing is horrendously expensive 😭😂 however, we found that Tokyo has the cheapest trains in Japan so it's not all bad!

I love Japanese homes! I could very easily due with a home this size as long as I had a storage room. So maybe a 2 bedroom with a living room would be ideal. One bedroom for storage and organizing, the small bedroom, then the small living room!
@wegoeast
@wegoeast Год назад
2 bedrooms is ideal, even for 2 people because one room can be storage, as you said, or it can be another living room, or a mix of both (like we had)!

Hi, my son is a college senior in the fall 2023 and graduates in 2024. He wants to be a high school Japanese teacher here in the U.S. He just told me he plans to try for the JET program for the year after he graduates to get more experience with the language. Concerned, I've been googling about the program and found your video. It was very helpful for me. He just finished a summer study abroad in Tokyo. Any tips for this nervous mom about the JET program? It appears you both have done it for years, is that correct? Thank you! I subscribed and will be watching more of your videos. Maybe some of the answers are in other videos.
@wegoeast
@wegoeast 11 месяцев назад
Well I would say that he's set his sights on a really amazing programme, which If he gets on would be a hugely valuable experience both career wise and more generally as a life experience. The programme has been going since 1989 and as such is very mature in its processes, which should give you confidence that he's making a good choice. That being said, everyone's JET experience is different depending on their placement (effectively random) and their ability to adapt. So as long as your son fully understands that he could be placed in Tokyo, or far north Hokkaido, or even on his own on a tropical island down in Okinawa, and he is willing to face any challenge that an unexpected placement might pose, he will be fine. All in all, its a great programme with a great history and the fact he has spent time in Japan before should give you full confidence that its the right choice!

Do both of you teach at the same school? Have you been teaching in-person the whole time or hybrid with virtual? Cheers.

Hi! Incoming Kobe JET here flying over end November! Your apartment looks pretty big, compared to the usual japanese micro apartments that i've seen. Is this an apartment that was arranged by the CGD or self-sourced?
@wegoeast
@wegoeast 2 года назад
Hello! Welcome to Kobe! This apartment was arranged by our BOE for us! It may be slightly bigger than usual because we live together, but its a typical layout for a 2LDK in Japan. Having visited friends that live alone in Kobe, their apartments are pretty similar in layout though might have one less room/ not have as large a living/dining area. But I would say they're defo not as small as the classic Tokyo micro apartments! Of course, ESID but as far as I've seen the apartments in Kobe are all pretty nice! Hope that helps :)
@bleahx2u
@bleahx2u 2 года назад
@@wegoeast Ooh, that's a relief! I don't expect a huge place like those in the rural areas but I hope it's at least around the same layout as yours, even minus one room 😅 Just one more question if you guys don't mind! How far away is your apartment from your schools? Thanks for the reply btw!
@wegoeast
@wegoeast 2 года назад
@@bleahx2u No problem, always here to help out new arrivals! The commuting distance really is ESID (I know people who’s schools are right next to their house and others that are pretty far), but it’s *generally* going to be less than an hour. All our schools take less than an hour to get to. Hope that helps!

A mix of both, I'm 190cm and Ashley's 170 something. I tower over most Japanese people and as such hit my head on things, especially in our apartment! The most common thing Japanese people say to me is "tall!"
