Thank you two so much for sharing your childhoods! It's so fun listening to you talk about how you lived, so different from how I grew up.

Ha ha that's funny! Playing possum to get out of discipline!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I got out of a few disciplines,as well. I would hide in the bathroom and mom would get distracted on a long phone call with her sister and she forgot to discipline me at least 2 or 3 times. Forgetting to discipline probably drove the lesson in deeper then if I had gotten them. It was a different approach, and it might have been intentional. I don't know, but I do know it was affective.

" forgetting to spank": do parents actually forget or intentionally forget sometimes? I don't know, but its some of the most unforgettable experiences when you have discipline coming and they forget to give it to you. I think it ingrains the lesson deeper then if you actually received the discipline. Because when you get discipline it's brief and not so fun,but its short. If they forget, its like on your mind for a long time as you think about it and agonize whether they will remember or not to give you your discipline and then phew when they forgot, but it definitely made you think about it for a WHILE LONGER than what the actual discipline would have lasted. It's like a long time- out with no guarantee they'll forget.

@@rashellewilcox2633 Yes, Rashelle, I think I understand what you mean! The child who is expecting the spanking seems to be more “on guard” and is afraid of getting into more trouble by doing something else to draw negative attention. This keeps that child rather quiet and settled, hoping his parent(s) won’t think of the punishment and, therefore, is well behaved for an extended length of time!

My Father taught us all to fish and each us would receive our own fishing pole when we were five and a tackle box. I still have my very first fishing pole; I’m 63! My Father just passed away at the age of 90. I have very fond memories of the many life lessons that my parents and grandparents taught me too. My grandmother assisted with some of the sewing I did. My grandfather was a wonderful gardener; as well farmer. Our grandparents lived one block away from us while growing up. Thank you for sharing. Loved hearing your lovely stories ❤

Hi Joel and Marlene, when you were growing up Amish and Mennonite did you celebrate Christmas as Children? I thought at one point the Amish did not celebrate it but maybe the Mennonite's did.

Yes, we celebrated Jesus' birth at Christmas both as Amish and as Mennonite.
