It's valid that we can't retire here, we are moving because CA decided we can't buy small gas engines. Having our business as gardeners that rely on mowers, blowers, etc we are leaving. Yes, they sell battery equipment. Whole other debate on that. Of course it's fabulous here, but not everyone can change careers at retirement age. Having a home paid off is a smart move for us. It's easy to say you dont know why people leave if you can have an affordable life and it all works for you.

I so enjoyed this podcast! Glad you have started up again! My husband and I are both close to 80 years old and have decided to move from Washington State to Arizona for health reasons. We have done some serious decluttering because it's expensive to move things that can be replaced after we arrive at the end of our move. Mostly we are moving sentimental items. One of the things that make decisions easier is to remember that we won't be taking anything to Heaven with us except people. Everything else is just "stuff". Prayers for rapid remodel of the kitchen and that the LORD fills your new home with love and peace.

I have a dyslexic son. He’s 12 now and can read but it’s sometimes a slow process depending on the content. The mechanics of reading can be super difficult for someone that has a focusing issue. His brain moves so fast so visual reading can be frustrating. Listening to a book also transports him into the book world and his mind enjoys it as much as those who always sight read their books. Open your mind to considering reading an experience for your brain, not just an exercise for your eyes. Reading in whatever form works is beautiful ❤

I personally say yes listening to an audiobook counts as reading it! As someone who is dyslexic this is one of the primary ways I read books. Growing up (and still sometimes today) I would listen to books on tape/audiobooks and reading along with the actual book while listening. By reading this way I am able to process and understand what I’m reading.

Yes listening to a book is reading a book. I used to not think so, but then I realized that leaves out anyone with learning disabilities, visual imparement/blindness, and auditory processing issues, among other things. They are still getting the info, and they get to learn and explore the world in a way they wouldn't be able /would be harder to do otherwise. And for people who can read a book with no impairment or disabilities to make that harder, they still should be able to learn and get the info when life is busy and you need to multitasking or relax and take a break.
@RepentAndBelieve1437
@RepentAndBelieve1437 Месяц назад
Well reading a book is reading it. Listening to a book is listening to it. Its just 2 different forms of consuming the information. Edit: I cant say I read a book when it wasnt me actually reading it. If somone is reading to me, Im just listening, not reading. When parents read books to children, they cant say, "I read the book" no, they listened to someone reading to them. Congratulations on your move!🎊

My son is severely dyslexic. He’s only 10, but he struggles so bad with reading. My husband’s uncle has PCA (Benson’s syndrome) and he has lost his ability to read. Listening is a huge tool for them and how they read a good portion of them time. What if you lost your vision? Would you count it as reading then? I 💯 think that audiobooks are reading and are such a blessing that these groups of people didn’t have even a generation ago. Some people don’t do well listening or are unable to hear, so those people should read the actually book. Whichever way you absorb it better…so listening absolutely counts as reading.

I got married and moved to the Southern California area. We bought two homes while out there, sold the first one to buy the second one. We loved our home. We both had jobs and ran a small business 48 hours a month. We lived through two huge earthquakes while we were there, the Sylmar and Northridge, we had no real damage to our homes during the quakes but we really didn’t want to be in another quake. Sadly our marriage ended and I moved back to Texas, and if I had it to do over, I would never have moved my children away from their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. They miss out on so much and they can’t make up for it. I missed out on being with family too. Husband didn’t really have a close relationship with his family. I didn’t hate California, there are many things to love about it, but Texas was my home, and I love being back here. The first summer back I just fell in love with how green all the lawns were, the landscaping just filled my soul with happiness. By summer in the LA area, everything is brown, it seldom rains in So Cal in the summer, of course homes and businesses did water their lawns, but traveling outside of cities, no beautiful landscapes just lots of brown stuff. And we had fires! The first or second year we were there fires surrounded our town, it was pretty frightening to us, neighbors weren’t worried at all and made fun of us newbies. So I miss my beautiful home, landscaping, but not the fires, floods, and certainly not the earthquakes! Here we have thunderstorms, hailstorms, ice storms, lightning, tornadoes, too much traffic, too many houses being built in rural areas, high temperatures, crime, so it’s not a perfect place to live, but like the saying goes, you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl. I’m happy to be back, two of my children live very near me, and my third child, an adult was killed by a hit and run driver about 14 years ago. Live is not perfect no matter where you live! Just try to live your best life. 😊

Listening to an audio book definitely counts as reading it. Sometimes, I do zone out briefly but I just rewind and listen to that part again. There are a lot of mundane things, like housework that go much faster with an audio book or a podcast.

Reading vs. listening - yes, both are intaking info. I actually have done both on the same title and will get different things depending on the format. I have one mystery series that I like that is in English but interspersed with French. I have the audiobooks, my husband has the physical books. I know how to pronounce everything, he knows how to spell it. We confer with each other for the 'full experience.'

I definitely have a mixed feeling about your question about audiobooks/actual reading. When I as working full time plus kids I did missionary books from my church on cassette tape( aging me lol) otherwise I would not have read them at all due to time restraints.

We moved to south Orange County from Houston 34 years ago. We have become so accustomed to the weather here, that we would find it difficult to leave! Living expenses and politics are two of our concerns, of course. We describe the 4 California seasons as: Earthquakes, Santa Ana Winds, Drought, and Fire. But, those things do pass! Can’t beat the cool evenings here!

Jeremy, I love touching a book, so I have a hard time listening. I made it probably 20 miles that I don't remember driving so that was the last time I drove and listened. When I sit and listening, I fall sleep. So, I love holding a book and turning the pages.

Yes listening to a book counts the same as physically reading a book as long as your getting the content it doesn’t matter how you get it paper book, ebook, audiobooks it’s all the same

Hey teacher. As someone whom always only read books; happily growing up from the mid 70’s. I would always have to go back and reread when my mind wandered. Audio. Which I didn’t start doing until 3 yrs ago. About like watching any tv series with my husband. I take it all in. Absolutely everything but because it’s tv and audio I can be doing 3 other things and still hear exactly what is being said/happening. It’s amazing. And yet. I love those options but none will replace a real live book to me. Not my kindle or audio or tv.

If it’s a book that you have to be paying attention while you read. Nothing else compares. You will miss it and have to come back to read.

I listened to the audio version of Jingers book, and it made it more alive and personal for me hearing her reading it, felt like she was really speaking to me. And I really enjoyed her book, i would read it again when im able to buy a physical copy

I’m the same way Jeremy I love having a physical book . Our younger daughter is dyslexic and struggled so hard with reading growing up , in her case she discovered audiobooks and it’s been a game changer . It’s basically how she learns when it comes to college . I’m so glad in her case it’s been a blessing . She married June 2 to her child hood sweethea, Tanners mom and I met when we were pregnant with Tanner and Natalie . Years later they reconnected when Tanners family joined our church . He vowed at 12 that he was going to marry her and he did . God is so good . Would you be lifting Eastern Oregon in prayer we are ravaged by wildfire and really need rain right now .

Listening to books COUNTS - because my grandfather went blind (and he was too advanced in age to learn braille) so it was the ONLY way that he could read!

Listening counts as reading. After my brother and sister passed away, I listened to a couple of books on grief. At that time I never could have read the words and gotten any wisdom and help from those books.

I’m in the middle of your audiobook, and I love it because I have a 40 minute commute every day! I wouldn’t have had time to sit down and read it so THANK YOU for reading it in your own voice. It would’ve been weird for it to be someone else’s voice.

Audiobooks count as reading for sure. Also, how many of us were nodding our heads as Jinger told childhood stories that we remember watching on TV. Her memories are some of our memories, in a way, right? I remember seeing Jinger and her family around town a few times as I grew up a couple of towns over.

Can’t wait to see the new house and all the upgrades on it. Also, yes audio books count as reading. As a busy mom I look forward to my book “reading” while cooking and doing other chores. I do get into it and really concentrate on what’s being read so I think it counts. 😉

From KC, MO and I work in a library and we totally count listening to audio books as reading books. Especially for the kids reading programs but audio books totally counts! Yes are brains can wonder when listening to an audiobook but that can also happen when I’m trying to read a physical book. So it all counts! Just like a parent reading to their kids or family counts also!
