The sleep regression at the 4 month mark was rough and we did sleep training using Taking Cara Babies guidelines and it worked ! My baby was awakening up every sleep cycle (30-45 minutes) and we we were desperate. It is VERY HARD but the benefits outweigh the cons, now she sleeps by herself in her own room. I love all of your videos ❤! Big hug

Thank you for sharing. I have a 6 month old that has had a very similar experience as Nalia. From cat naps to a 10 to 10 sleep schedule to feeding to sleep. Glad to hear that she started working her sleep out on her own. ❤

I don't understand sleep training. Babies don't actually have the part of the parasympathetic nervous system fully working and online that allows a baby to self-regulate. It is actually physiological impossible for them. All it teaches the baby is no one is coming so they sense unsafety and shut down (which we call "falling asleep") to self-protect, which creates a more shaky, dysregulated and traumatised nervous system. I really hope there becomes a universal understanding around this neurological fact. Great video as always Annie xxx

Hi Annie, just want to share another side of swaddling. I gave birth to a baby girl in February in Scotland where I live and all the midwives swaddled the babies at the post natal ward and really encouraged people to do it as it makes most babies sleep better.

I can’t remember everything that happened because just like that my two turned 26 and 23! I wish the sort of information we have today via the internet was available back then. There was nothing too helpful except for written publications handed out by the the doctors or midwives, or, advice from the midwives which could have been based on their own opinions. One thing that was discouraged with my eldest was co sleeping. However, that’s exactly what I did do and since it helped with him I didn’t hesitate to do the same with my daughter. They had “beds” within the bed since we didn’t put the duvet over them. They took up so much room even so, but at least we all slept. Sort of. 😁

Been waiting for this video! You are so lucky that Nalia finally started to sleep well. My almost 10 month old still refuses to sleep on her own and wakes multiple times a night. Sometimes for the milk and sometimes wants to be soothed. I tried sleep training but she screams like hell and goes crazy if I don’t pick her up. I am hoping she will learn one day to put herself to sleep and have 10 hr stretches 🙏🏼☺️

It will get better, feed and keep putting back in crib. I did that with sons and after the year mark I never had a problem. They never wake up at night needing any type of soothing. My sons are 2 years apart and they shared room until 6 and 8 years, I think that probably helped.

i wish my daughter would sleep like this :( she was sleeping 6-7h without waking until she was 4 months. but when that 4 month regression hit us... it stayed with us to this day. and she is 7 months. waking up every 2-3 hours. she has 2-3 naps in the day but only 30 minutes. i'm so tired ;(

Annie, love your sharing! I am a mom of a 4 month old and definitely can relate so much to you regarding baby sleep, feeding and etc. one thing that helped me tremendously is reading the book ‘Moms On Call’. The books are written by two pediatrician nurses who helped thousands of families and explained so much about baby feeding, sleeping, and have a schedule for babies of months of age under the chapter of ‘Typical Days’. It saves me so much time from doing my own research and best of all, the source of information is more trustworthy. Highly highly recommended for first time parents, it saved me from having postpartum depression and giving me and my husband the enjoyment of parenthood!

I have a 16 month old, he’s never slept 12 hours in a row. Now he will sleep 10 hours but he gets up once a night. There are so many things I wish I did differently in those earlier months. I feel like my life would be so different with better sleep!

Babies will do what you get them used too. My kids are 15 and 13 now and from the beginning we did healthy sleep habits, routines, and at 4 months I did sleep training and they were perfect sleepers. 12 uninterrupted hours every night. Put your babies in the crib from the very first day, drowsy but not sleeping, every 90 minutes. You will never regret teaching them how to sleep independently.

Dear Annie, for me and my baby girl sleep was a very much of a struggle. So I really had to let go of any expectations. She just couldn’t sleep alone while she was breastfed until 2yo. Later I managed to make her sleep half a night in her bed and the other half she was waking up and calling for me 😢 so I either end up to sleeping in her single bed or she comes to my bedroom. Shortly.. I’ve learn how to intermittent sleep like a cat because I intentionally don’t go back and forward between bedrooms all night. Anyway it gets better every year😂

This is great BUT not breastfeeding anymore has A LOT to do with your baby sleeping through the night - breastfed babies are just not going to sleep through until you stop breastfeeding in the night/sleep train - I also have a 9 month old and from all my mum friends that are similar age - it’s the bottle fed babies that sleep and the breastfed babies all still wake up throughout the night x

I agree. She did put out a disclaimer that this is her experience and it’s vital to note that she stopped breastfeeding. Again, I agree that this is the difference. I have three littles including a 7 month old and breastfeed. I breastfed my first two for three years each. They never slept through the night until I stopped breastfeeding. My 7 month old wakes a few times. I also think daycare makes a difference. I think children who have to go to daycare carry more anxiety and wake more. My first two slept terribly. My 7 month old has been able to stay home and sleeps better than the first two. Still it’s great to hear her story because it definitely does help to hear every woman’s story. It just does. Thanks Annie! Also, thank you Lola because this is so important. 😊

Aw man i don’t find that to be true. I breastfed exclusively and my son was sleeping through the night at 3 1/2 months. But I can see how formula sits heavier on their tummies, keeping them fuller, longer. But not all the time the case.

I personally don’t think this is absolute truth. I am breastfeeding and my son is 6 months old, he sometimes sleeps through the night and sometimes not. Every baby is different.

Both my babies were breastfed and woke up all night until they were over a year old. Formula has a lot to do with sleeping through the night when they are very young.

For some reason swaddling is not widely used in Germany nor in Europe in general. I come from Ukraine and swaddling is the most common way. Small babies make many uncontrollable movements with their hands and this wakes up or even injures themselves.

Hm, I wonder what has happened in your hospital.... I m a midmife in Germany, but these bizarre circumstances are really sad. I feel you would be a person who could give birth with a private midwife in Hospital or at home.

I was actually looking for a similar video back when I was implementing that course on my newborn whose 18 months now 🥹, the only thing that I found helpful from the newborn part of the course is that it teaches you how to allow the baby learn to fall asleep by herself which is so so much easier than an older baby, in fact it just happens without training or crying! At least for my boy. I would apperciate all the small details you mentioned back when I was at the same stage of motherhood🤍
