Our Beautiful Planet Ep 2: Miter Basin / Sequoia National Park 

I realize it's been awhile since my last video. Producing these longer, TV-style videos takes much more time, energy, and money than simple "X Tips for Better Y" videos. So if you like this kind of video please let me know down in the comments! I want to make sure this channel is bringing you great, helpful content, whatever form that takes. I'll be creating more videos in the "Our Beautiful Planet" series, simply because I find it a wonderful challenge. Just a couple of years away from 70 years old "forces" me to take a much slower pace. I LOVE the Sierra Nevada. It has defined my backcountry life, and my life itself. I visited Miter Basin a long time ago and more recently with my oldest granddaughter. The Sierra Nevada is, by far, the most beautiful place on this planet. I only wish I could be around to see where it takes my grandchildren. My grandson just turned 16 years old, and he and I have been to the top of Half Dome 3 times. Life is good, and for me, the Sierra Nevada represent life itself.

Love the way you added the educational tip on a good place to camp “and of course 100 feet from water”. I take these things for granted, but with s many new people to the backcountry, I don’t think this is always in their DNA, so thank you.

An inspiring video for sure even though I am sure I will not make it to the Miter Basin. But, will certainly remember this one during my visit to Ediza this fall. Keep them coming! Already looking forward to #3.

Your photos of the basin certainly show it off nicely. I spent the better part of a week in the basin almost 20 years ago. I climbed up to Crabtree and Arc Passes and some of the other lakes in the basin. It was very nice to see this area again. I certainly encourage you to keep up the beautiful work.

High-end in every way Josh! From production values, to the peaks surrounding you, to the leg-work put in just to get there and back, and most of all, to the photographs. The photos could get "lost" in everything else that is high-end here, but, as always, your photographs are truly tops. There is no way that this vid (as of today) only has 4.6k views. It should have 100 times that (your mom's refresh rate notwithstanding ;) The only thing I would like to suggest is not necessarily "tips" but a little more on how your scouting of a given composition develops. For the most part, in these vids you go from the "big picture" pan in the video to a bunch of gorgeous photos. It's the "in-between" those two poles that I would love to see: What first grabbed you for a given shot and how you honed in on the final composition. Awesome stuff Josh! Looking forward to more, and thank you for all you put into these for us.

Excellent video and images. I agree about backpacking...definitely food for the soul. In 10 days my wife and I are heading to the Olympics for 5 days of backpacking, I'm so excited. Keep up the great work Joshua.

Did you encounter any other backpackers? It seemed like you were in a pretty remote area. Thanks for a great video!

Just watched your incredible 'Finding Paradise' video, subscribed, and was notified of this video. I returned from Kings Canyon again yesterday (second time in 8 days) and found that the beauty that lies beyond Roads End is where >99% of the majesty resides in solitude. The combination of back country footage, photography tips and just all around spectacular cinematography you have shared with us is truly impressive. Thank you for giving those of us who aren't so adventurous, and can't venture out quite so far, a glimpse of the marvelous land we share.

Gorgeous views and shots. Wish I could do those kind of hikes. There are different reasons why I can't two are asthma and bad arthritis in my knees and ankles

Loved your video, but the music didn't go with my feng shui

You look like you have your backpacking gear fairly dialed. You've made a video about what gear you take for a day hike, but I can't find anything focused on backpacking. As somebody who is struggling to get the weight out of my pack and still bring camera equipment, I'm interested to see your load out.
