that is a LOT of battery. Interested to know why a 4ishkW inverter, why not bigger for full house?
@EverydayLife621
@EverydayLife621 Год назад
Because it’s not cost effective, the system simply takes the rest from the grid during these peak periods.

Will that not over heat as inverter is next to battery, shold it not be 600mm apart?
@OvalRenewables

It has a huge heat sink up the back so that will keep it cool

£24000 does that include everything all of the batteries EV charger labour etc What I don't understand is how someone gets a return at these prices? Guessing that the UPS aspect never will and isn't intended to
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Год назад
Yes that’s the full project price at the time of the installation. There are elements that will never ‘pay for itself’ like you mentioned the ups and EV charger 👍

How much is a system like this? & how much to fit on average?

If Alpha were to close down, will the kit still work? We keep seeing internet enabled devices being sold, then the company goes bankrupt or bought over and the servers shut down. Could end up being an expensive paper weight.

I'm looking at battery storage, but I am concerned about potential battery fires/ explosions. Not sure how many batteries you've installed for the client in this video, but looking like it's 4 units? If so, this quadruples the risk IF there is a risk? Is this something that we should be insuring against?
@EverydayLife621
@EverydayLife621 Год назад
I imagine that these batteries are LFP, which are much safer technology and slightly more environmentally friendly (as they dont need nickel and cobalt)
@edc1569
@edc1569 Год назад
They're LFP, just keep anything flammable away from them and even if they did somehow end up with thermal runaway, its just going to make a bit of smoke.

HI. Q: The video was showing house load of around 600W and battery charge at around 96% - The app was showing power being supplied from the grid - Why is that? - I would have expected all the house load 600W coming from combination of solar and battery?

Hi I was wondering if you could possibly help me. We are pulling our hair out with a company that have had our deposit for months and nothing is moving after seeing you on RU-vid. We now realise that you seem to know exactly what you’re talking about. I know you’re not taking new enquiries, but I was wondering if you ever went as far as Lincolnshire well near Lincoln actually. If you do, would you let me know and if not could you possibly recommend a company? I would love to have been able to see you on your website roughly what sort of cost for panels and a battery but I haven’t been able to see that my husband and I are getting on so time is important. Thanks so much.

What earthing arrangement have you created for the emergency circuits? Where's the N-E link?
@vantech20
@vantech20 10 месяцев назад
Did you ever get a response on this point? Alpha don’t create a firm N-E link on UPS operation. How are others overcoming this?

Looks good but what I cannot understand is a battery system sends the power back to the grid each night and restarts to fill the battery the solar will not charge the battery and power will have to be bought in?
@freethink3r

Interesting you used a 50A MCB for the battery circuit. Any reason over an RCBO?

Have house insurers started requiring notice of the installation of lithium ion batteries yet?

How well do these batteries charge in a garage as I have heard that in really cold weather they don't charge fully even when grid charging overnight as cold temperature restricts the charge rate.
@edc1569
@edc1569 Год назад
This is true if the batteries get sub-zero, however, in a garage with them being cycled i'd be surprised if you had an issue more than a few days a year, if you do at all.

Does anyone know if you can have 2 Power walls if you only have single phase at your property? Also, would that mean a maximum output of 10kw from that batteries?

Hi, stupid question why is the DC from Panels always on a different inverter to the ones that run the batteries? No use of hybrid or is there a rule in UK on this. In south-Africa have never seen it this way
@pf888
@pf888 Год назад
The Alpha battery is AC coupled as the SolarEdge PV array has its own inverter, so not a hybrid inverter system
@simon247sa
@simon247sa Год назад
This battery can take pv directly. However it's been installed for one of a variety of reasons I would imagine which could be, ac coupled stand alone system so that the car charger can work nicely with the battery and solar independently (monitoring the battery to avoid draining it into the EV). In a Hybrid it cannot distinguish what is pv power or battery power. Another reason could be that solar edge was a neat system in terms of the quality inverter with a longer warranty and always gets installed with optimisers. Their battery's are super expensive aswell. Maybe more cost effective to install the Alphas
@sdgelectronics
@sdgelectronics Год назад
@@simon247sa Optimisers are not that useful with half or triple cut panels as the internal diodes do an excellent job if a panel is shaded or part-shaded. The most useful part about using them is just for monitoring on a per-panel basis, not for any energy reasons. Surprisingly people are getting higher overall output from a standard 2x MPPT inverter than an equivalent Solaredge. Most chargers work happily with hybrid inverters though as for most cases you'd charge your EV based on energy being fed back into the grid.
@sdgelectronics
@sdgelectronics Год назад
Some installers prefer to use this system, but hybrid inverters are prevalent. The Solis RHI 5G inverters seem to be the favourite amongst the larger companies.

Certainly in the winter, its quite clear that these systems only work (financially), IF you can get a peak / off-peak energy tariff, @12:50 - the amount taken from the grid overnight must be 10x what the PV generates during the day. Octopus aside, will the electric companies ever offer peak / off-peak energy tariffs again?
@paulvose3177
@paulvose3177 Год назад
Thanks Sam, I’ve just had a Alpha smile B3 with 5kw capacity fitted to my existing solar system but don’t have an EV. Who can I get a cheap overnight tariff from?
