I absolutely love the BMW M4. It is, by far, my favorite car I’ve ever owned. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some very weird problems. Today, we’re going to dive into some of the problems that we’ve noticed on our 2015 BMW M4 F83 in Yas Marina Blue and talk about what issues bother us most and what issues still need to be addressed for repair.

About this video: First off, let’s talk about water. You see we happen to have a BMW M4 F83 model. That means it’s a convertible. Thus, it needs to run water a bit differently than the F82 coupe models. So if you look in the rear behind the door, you will see how water flows down into this area of the car.
That’s all fine. It’s supposed to flow here, and then, flow gracefully out of the bottom of the car. In practice, however, that’s not the case. You see, BMW didn’t put a drain hole in the shield under the car just in the metal. That means that water gets trapped in the body work behind the door. And we aren’t talking a little bit of water. We’re talking A LOT of water.
So much water in fact that if you stop quickly, you will hear it sloshing around behind your head. It’s honestly very odd the first time in happens.
The fix for this is unscrewing a few of the plastic screws that hold the shield on under the car and pull it back a bit. Water will then start poring out of the car like a water fall.
From there you wait until the water stops. Now, this can be fixed permanently by drilling holes on each side of the car through the shields, and we will be doing that. However, it is a weird problem of the convertible M4s.
The weird issues don’t just stop there though. A few days ago, I went to get into the M4, and I noticed that the M logo didn’t appear on the gauge cluster. That was odd, but I started the car anyway. However, the instruments were all dead.
Like nothing changed on them. I didn’t get any speed, RPM, fuel, or temperature readings. The car was on and working, but it wasn’t showing any information. I then started testing other things. The bluetooth, radio, and speakers in general just didn’t work. Check control didn’t show anything, and the top wouldn’t move. It was like the button didn’t work at all.
This would have concerned me more if we didn’t have that sweet bumper to bumper Carmax warranty, but luckily, we do. I called, got an appointment setup, and was ready to get the car on a tow truck when the gauges started working again. As did the the Bluetooth, radio, and convertible top.
It is like nothing ever happen. From what I’ve researched, this is most likely due to the software being out of date. We will be getting that updated, but until we do, the car now runs and drives great. Like it never happened.
You know I think the best part of my 6 years of BMW ownership is that so many problems do fix themselves. I had a similar issue on my old 428i, and it also just fixed itself.
Speaking of though, one problem that hasn’t fixed itself is our front center speaker on the dash. This speaker is blown. Luckily, that CarMax warranty has it covered, but I have seen it is common in M4s over 50,000 miles, so if you are looking for one, be sure to play some base heavy music and check it.
Also keep in mind that the M does pump engine noise through this speaker, and that will cause it to pop and crack even if the radio is off. Honestly, that’s the worst part of it being blown for me. It is a constant reminder that there is an issue with that speaker.
Now, I know this is par for the course with M cars, and that is why we got that warranty. The fact that Carmax will offer a warranty on a car like this blows my mind completely. They do though, and that means people like me can take advantage of it.
These are the quirks you can expect from an M car. Luckily, if you buy a M, you are probably a BMW enthusiast like me, and just laugh at the problems and look at them as the car just making sure you still love it.

the software code don't change. It more likely some circuit board is likely exposed to weather. 1 single resistor with moisture will change resistance and cause all sorts of issues.

Thanks man ..bought one last month! Tell me what is your process of putting the vehicle in park....I just want to confer notes??

Glad you liked the video! The parking process is the weirdest thing I’ve seen in a car. Haha. Basically, I just stop the car in drive, turn it off, car goes into ‘P’, and then I set the e-brake. However, the e-brake probably isn’t required. We actually checked the manual to confirm because it was so odd, and that’s what it said as well. You can also put the car in neutral and hit the start-stop button twice with your foot off the brake. Just another quirk of M4 I guess. 😂

@@BreakdownAutomotive ...same for me on both accounts. I have a BMW engineer friend, he put in N then park and laughed at me 😁... So I will go with option two ...N, hand brake, foot off foot brake and then turn off (start button) to get to P. The last thing I want is a broken DCT gear box 😕😁... keep up the good work guys! 👍🏾

I have a 2015 with almost 80,000 miles. It’s nothing but trouble. Constant problems.

This channels a bit inactive, but I was reviewing comments and this stuck out. Since this video, it has had both the value cover gaskets and the differential replaced as well as a rear speed sensor. Overall about $8,000 in repairs. Luckily, CarMax covered it for us. Can’t imagine owning out of warranty. We’re also at 82k miles now.

Kinda late. But I’m looking into buying a 428i or a 430i a 2015< and 60,000 miles< Does anyone know if this car will be worth buying ? Maintenance wise and etc.
@BreakdownAutomotive
@BreakdownAutomotive 2 года назад
I would 110% recommend the 428i. We have had two 2014 BMW 428is, and we have a ton of videos on them. The majority of our BMW videos are on these actually. Here is the playlist. ru-vid.com/group/PLfn2IN4GY5EIIYbJe65i4qWtxWVaV7DEl The biggest issue was saw was a recurring oil leak that had to be corrected a few times. I believe BMW has a permanent for this now though. The milage you’re looking at is the sweet spot. We drove one from 64k miles to 110k miles, and it held up well with only regular maintenance other than the oil leak mentioned above and a thermostat. Truly one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. - Nic

@@BreakdownAutomotive The 428i was the N20 4 cyl turbos correct? Don’t have the 4 series but rather the 328i… it’s a peppy lil engine for a 4 cyl. Love your M4 by the way. Hoping to buy a Supra with the B58 soon!
