I really enjoy your videos and love your boat. We sold our 35 beneteau catamaran last year. We had the original paper work and it said it could do 17 knots but we never saw over 10.5. I bet you will do much better with longer waterline and dagger boards. We had shoal keels and the stick was cut to go under bridges - from 54 feet to 48. Keep the weight down, we added a hard top and I now think a soft top would be much less weight. Best thing we did was buy a sailrite sewing machine (it paid for itself on first project) and made Bimini, main sail covers and cushions - we started with no experience.
You two are very kind to give us all a tour. Thanks, she's a lovely boat. Nothing like going fast and anchoring shallow! I'm not sure if I've got the anchorage correct but if I'm right and if you're still moored there, and you see the crew of "Barefoot Gal", say Hi from Carleen in Canada. Carolyn and Dave are lovely. Happy New Year!
Ok I'm a old lady I miss Neverland, But this world is all about change so I will get use to it !!! If you two love it I will grow to love it, it doesn't ever mean I won't stop watching you tow grow and give Jetty a big hug from this old lady in Canada !!! Happy New Year To the three of you and all the Endless Summer crew and family !!! Salutations !!
Well done looks to be a fairly light faster boat than many cruising cats . Too many cruising cats make the hulls too wide which creates extra drag extra wetted surface and extra weight . Excess weight is a killer for cats and trimerans they need to be as light as possible to over come the extra wetted surface area than a mono hull . Also best in bad weather to trim the boat tail heavy to stop the bow to bury iself as it surfs down a wave . Many racing multi hulls flip upside down with pitch poling the boat doing high speeds with full canvas in strong winds going downwind as they bury the bow as they slide down a large wave .In rough weather . In bad weather It is probably best use as little dagger boards as possible to allow cat to slip side wards in strong gusts or big waves . Its nearly impossible to over turn a a cruising cat if your careful not to go too fast downwind or to carry to much sail in bad weather .Racing cats and trimarans are on the limits so they can over turn more easily . I know of one Prout 35 that in the 1980s era with a modified 7 foot extension mast in force seven doing 22 knots with full canvas and full spinnaker with novice on the helm that flipped . The rest of the irish crew of the irish owned baot were down below drinking whisky as they do and playing cards and left the novice to control the boat . As the boat passed a mountainous region off county Wicklow in southern Ireland and there was a funnel effect from the near by cliffs and mountains. This funnel effect increased the wind to probably to force 8 locally and there was also a downward component to wind coming down off the cliffs . One hull lifted but the novice on the helm didnt know what to do so the boat flipped . So it required all of murphys law to conpire and combine to flip a standard cruiser boat That preety well showing its nearly impossible to flip them with side force winds and standard rigs .Normally the sails will shed before the boat will flip .In terms of cat events the majority of cats that get lost are from other boating type events events . these events include fire , hitting rocks or containers that fall of ships and one was lost from hitting whales sleeping on the surface of the sea .I know one 65 foot boat crossing the Atlantic that had engine fire and required three fire extinguishers to put out the fire .Invest in fire extinguishers because the standard one or two extinguishers might not be enough .ASAP invest in Lithuim Ion batteries .If you cant then the next best is the golf cart ~6 volt ~220 amp types as being the only real type that can deep cycle ~550 cycles due to primitive thick lead plate dezine .Also invest in all non electric systems like paraffin light or similar and avoid if possible electric hungry stuff like radar . Invest in water makers one gallon of fuel makes about ten gallons of water so lighter to carry fuel than water . If possible convert one engine of the boat to drive a generator to make eletric power that is better than gasoline type generator or maybe its expensive invest in a diesel generator ~5 kilowatt or ~8 kilowatt but thats a bit of a heavy a solution .It might be better to remove one engine from the boat put in the generator there and have eletric drive for the propeller for the few times you need max power in anchorage or marinas .The rest of the time on anchorage the generator can be just to keep the eltric power running .Have fun
You need to be a small person to own a Crowther Cat.... Seeing her have to turn a little to walk through the hull shows how narrow they are.... my shoulders are wider than those little so called hallways..... they seem to fit OK>
Just found this site and wow what fun adventures you are experiencing!!! Great memories for a lifetime for sure. I'm a 62 year old blonde woman who has good skin because I used sun screen thus I would encourage Sierra to use it ASAP! She won"t be happy at 62 with sun dried wrinkly skin...I wish her to always be youthful and beautiful!!! Love your videos!
Seeing a new video is always a treat. Congratulations again on your "Kewl" kitty Cat. Your tour video was too fast and couldn't hear it too well in some spots. You guys are such sweethearts to watch....and Jeddi will always be the star. I know she is loved by everyone. Please remember fuller shots next time your do a tour so your admiring audience can saver the essence of the whole package....You two...our favorite pooch on planet earth Jeddi, and your new home. We love you guys, and you never have to give excuses for a little clutter. Hey it's a boat....WTH...we understand. I can't believe how much you've done since you bought her. You two are amazing with that CAN DO attitude. The boat fits you guys like a glove. Not pretentious and loaded with character. I'm astonished you don't have 250 K subscriptions. Love you guys....Thanks for sharing...and if you ever want to do another "little slower" in depth tour...(engines and all) your fans would sure love it. Happy New Year.
I'd fabricate some hatches for those forward compartments that store your sails/chains/lines. I know they have drains but they could easily get stopped up with "stuff" and if they get filled with water coming over the bow or a heavy rain it would be a lot of weight where you don't want it. Enough to cause some safety concerns or at the least degrade the performance of that fast cat. Other than that I'm totally envious.
She is one nice cat. I like how you went with something quick, even better that she is quiet as well. Imagine those long cruises you can complete using sail instead of diesel. You should call her-The Smiling Assassin. Enjoy your quiet but quick Assassin of nautical miles. Take care mates, you'll be right!
Thought you were crazy switching from a trawler to a cat, but after seeing your videos I completely get it. That boat has a ton of character and you guys have made great use of the space. I have to say though, I'm jealous. My boats are wrapped on their trailers enjoying the -24 day we had up here in Maine. Keep up the good work, your videos keep the winter blues at bay.
WOW! I am so impressed by the whole process you both have gone through. It is so cool to see that you are back in Florida, with your new boat and the way you have it fixed up is really nice. The sleeping quarters seem tight but cozy. You do have the option to sleep on the big couch or rest outside. I think it is beautiful! I don't think you have too much stuff, it all seems to fit. I've lived in Florida for 24+yrs and I have to say, ya'll had the best spot to see fireworks and ring in the new year. You did a fantastic job on decorating and I can't wait when you head to the Bahama's so we can see how fast and smooth that bad boy flies. You may end up leaving us before Feb. Get your thermal blankets out because a cold front is heading this way. 40's is cold for Florida. Thanks for a walk through, I was excited to see the post. Jetty appears to like the new boat. Be safe! Stay warm.
Love the boat. I went onboard the USS Ortolan (ASR-22) when I was on active duty. It was a catamaran style Submarine rescue ship. Fun ride! Twice the fun with two hulls. Fair Winds and Following Seas!
Could be that Jetty wants to ensure that, if the topic of shore-leave is raised, she's right there to second that emotion. My Schnauzer Knotty's ploy, to a T!
Thanks for the look at the cat and after you trip you will know what you need and do not need. Only then will you know for sure what you should bring with you.
Nice boat, I’ve been watching your videos for several months now and have learned a lot from them. We are lake boaters and know nothing about boating in the big ocean. Keep up the great videos and have fun this winter down in the Caribbean. I think that’s where you said you were heading.
Congrats. You guys made a good buy. I have seen worst boats become really good by just dedication and strong will. You guys are amazing. You can do it. LovessssssO
Shock and awe! Wow! Your previous videos lead me to believe the new Cat was much smaller but WOW!! What an upgrade! I love how Jetti helped give the tour. The two of you seem to have it all figured out. I love Love LOVE your videos, thankyou for sharing, I'm jealous LOL. Much love from Wilmington NC! Happy new year!
PS;... Billy you are quite the professional when it comes to boats and repairs. Everthing you have done to repair old hinges, new wood, fiberglass etc. appears top notch and is flawlessly blended with the exterior and original construction of the cat. Stuff like that keeps me coming back time and time again. 👍👍
Thanks for the tour, was wondering. Don't know much about cats but years ago down in Honduras I met Philippe Jeantot and his key advise to me if I ever run a cat is 1. don't overload them as it's easy to do with all the space and 2. Know when to reef as cats don't heel like mono hauls and it's easy to put major stress on the rig!
I was waiting to get the grand tour. Very nice boat. You have it organized well. Jetty gets around lickitty split. So I kinda like that guest berth. Seems to be just the right size for me. Lol. You’re doing an awesome job. Sierraaa seems to really like the cat. Lots of big smiles. You are living the dream!
Thanks for tour! So hard to keep it light with a multi hull , the performance drops off so fast as you load up the extra weight of gear. That's why the charter cat are such dog and can barely get out of their own way! Keep that new hard top super light wt and low windage! Try white plastic coated fabric.....Cheers Warren
You might have already come across these guys, s/v Catchin Rays, but if not, you might want to check them out. They bought a fixer-upper cat, spent about a year going through it, and then sailed down to Grenada. They've since sold the boat, and put their channel on ice, but the videos they did make, are very good and might give you some ideas and inspiration. Happy new year. Here's to a great 2018.
Cool boat, full canopy would be nice, keep the living quarters dry during a storm, you have really done a lot of good work from when I saw you first on the boat. Cannot wait to see more!
I saw a part at 5:17 , her hand on it. A friends boat broke up because that part was too thin. It was a performance Cat just like that one. Zingaro. Yours looks even thinner ! Plywood. I can help you see the damage on the other boat if you would like. Its a way that performance cats were made lighter. But , it failed for them. I think it could be strengthened, at least on Zingaro's , and I would think yours also.
Thank you for the tour! I definitely get the impression that both of you feel a bit as though you have MORE than you deserve??? You don't! You have earned everything you have and we are so blessed that you allow us the insight that you do! Thank you!
Great boat! Surprised you've filled it up considering your trawler was so much smaller. Oh well, it's great to have all your gear with you all the time. Definitely get a bimini and more solar panels.
Thanks for the tour! Seems incredible that you have too much stuff aboard after you downsized so much. Looking forward to seeing your projects, improvements, and trips on the new boat.
Its a neat boat. For your hard top id just think about getting several solar panels and waterproofing the gap between them with plexi and 3m moulding tape.
for Jetti bed access, how about a narrow 'gangplank' of sorts that runs alongside the bed to the floor or step... if it were designed to be the full length of the bed it could have a storage position that makes it function as a 'hard' lee-cloth or railing (if you had one for both beds it would keep extra gear stored in the spare from falling out under way). Would probably have to put runners on it or some grippy rubber so Jetti could have the needed traction to get up the incline? I imagine you are only wanting it in ramp configuration while you sleep so that Jetti can join you? (forgive if it is a duplicate suggestion). Congrats on the new home, love your videos.
