Great video, we have our interview in a week or so. Have gone through all the same steps but will tweak my personal statement as yours was great. Exciting times!
I'm pretty sure that the demand for this VISA is not only 665€/month. I do think they consider the minimal wage annually. The minimal wage in Portugal is pay 14 times a year. In the Pordata (portugal data) site (the site in Portugal with everything about numbers, statistics, etc), they had the minimal wage for 2021 is 9310/year, divided by 12 is 775,80€. In the site they show that the minimal wage in the year of 1980 was 44,90€.

Love you guys! We are just putting all of our documents together for D7 this week and will be in the Oeiras area for our rental in April! I was wondering who you used for your travel insurance coming from the United States to Portugal?
hi, have seen all your videos , have already told about the nice tour u can make around lisbon area in the other video comment, and today I just want to say some little things, you are a couple very young, I read that u have some brasilian Portuguese but I reckon it will be tuff because the sound is very different, they use more open vogals and we use closed vogals well this is Fonetics nevermind but just to say its very different , I would say its a start, even brasilians when they arrive say its dificult for them , that we talk to fast but its not its just when you find it strange we tend to say excuses. But with time and efort with a good ear everything comes, Portuguese people has they normally are ok with English they switch to english if they see you are english speaking not giving you much opportunity to exercice the language :) , I saw your commentaries about the quality of dress here but its not very true, you must take more time to figure out european brands and the places, its a differet country different habits and culture so early conclusions are not the fact...I know because I know USA my brother lives there in Washington DC he is a top scientist teaching in a medicine School, but yes people here have lower wages so on a lot of places there will be not very quality clothes, but then in the next corner there is , you have to know the region and the places, but here you have all the raw matterials and the quality , and even if you knew a lot of the italian best brands are made here in Portugal cheap labour and the best shoes brands are here to mostly in the north that is most industrial than the interior and the south. I have responded to Alan Martins here to give him more or less an idea and a context of the cost of living in the perpective of a local like me...check it out on ALAN MARTINS that asked you, cheers bye!!
A lot of helpful information, thank you and congratulations on your new adventure in Portugal. For how many months did you purchase your travel insurance? Would 4 months, which is D7 visa duration, be enough for application or does it need to be longer?
I have been scouring the Facebook group and Google for the answer to the funded bank account question and was hoping your case would be the (an) answer. Thank you!
This was so great, thank you! Question regarding the personal statement. Any ideas of what to do if I know no one living in Portugal currently? I hear you had a list of folks but I don’t know anyone personally. Thanks for your thoughts on this :).
Thanks for the information on the criminal background check. That is helpful to know that I can send directly to the embassy without going through the U.S. Department of State for the Apostille.
Love your video! Agree with another viewer, “ Very informative, not too chatty, right to the point.“ we are planning to retire a year from now. Should we apply for NIF online now and open a bank account in Portugal when we visit the country later this year? Is it too early to apply for NIF and bank account?
Good info, thank you. I'm also using VFS Global for the Portuguese consulate in Washington, DC. They told me I need to come in person to have my biometrics recorded, even though my fingerprinting done for the required FBI check. Did you have to go in person to DC after mailing your application packet? I also emailed the consulate directly to confirm acceptable accommodation. VFS's checklist states a 6-month hotel reservation is acceptable. This week the consulate replied that a 6-month, non-refundable lease, registered with the Portuguese tax authority, is required.
Thank you for the Best Informative video ever on the D7 visa that I am considering. Love your channel, and Subscribed to your channel at first sight. Couple of questions. 1. Where is this D7 application form available. I went to the Portugal consulate website and there is no mention of the D7 or the forms for that Visa. When i do a google search it points me always to these companies who want to do the D7 service for a hefty charge. 2. With the D7, have you done any Tax implication Vlogs being a US citizen. I don't' intend to work (I will be a retiree) and considering this visa to enter Europe, and visit neighboring countries living in the region. 3. Will I be allowed to buy a Condo with a D7 in places like Lisbon or Porto where the Golden Visa puts a buy restrictions. 4. If I may ask what city have you chosen to live -not being personal and just curious. Great no nonsense to the point info. Keep up your good work and hope you are by now well settled and enjoying your new residence. Cheers!!!
Hey, thanks for the video! Question: I work remotely both full-time and freelance jobs and my income is taxed in my country of residence (Jordan). If I move to Portugal on the D7 visa, will it be taxed in both countries? Which tax rates would apply to me?
Great info 👍 can you please share how much you have to pay the person who helped open an account with Banco Best? How’s the fees like for this bank? Minimum balance? Thanks a lot 🙏
I did not pay for his services to open the account. There are some fees for the account, but I am not sure what they are, but you can look at the website to know for sure.
Thanks for the information! I am debating whether or not to travel to Portugal first as a tourist to go and look around for places to stay. My question is why would anyone sign a 6 lease remotely...? Sight unseen? What if the neighbors are noisy... ? Do you think it's possible to get a "lease offer" or some sort of situation to be able to get out of it once you are there? I would just hate to sign a long term lease and then to hate the place when I arrive.... it seems risky. Any advice?
Just found you guys by watching your interview with Expats Everywhere. You have really provided useful info. When did you purchase you airline tickets, before you submitted you visa application? How much leeway do you need to give yourself for your flights? I’ve only seen a few of your videos but have really enjoyed, I subscribed!
I did not know that the photos for the Visa application needed to be in a different size format. Did you just ask (wherever) you had you photos taken to size them differently? We had our passport pictures done at CVS and everything on their website says 2x2.
Great video! before you applied how many months did you set up your statements to show the monthly income of paying yourself for the monthly income requirement?
This was the most informative and helpful video I've ever seen on YT. Thank you very much again! I read the comments to avoid asking the same questions, but I couldn't find any information about the ID card :( My visa application is pretty close, I got my NIF number but I couldn't open a bank account. I'm not an EU citizen and I can't open the account because I dont have EU ID number. The system does not accept my passport number, how did you solve this situation? I would be greatefull if you could help :)
Thank you guys! You are the best! I am unsure how long before the flight to Portugal should I send the documents to them? For example : I plan to go in June 2022. I am taking care of Nif, bank account and docs. But when should I book my appointment with them to hand over my application package? Thank you!
Hi there. Thanks for the super insightful video. Do you have any information regarding unmarried partners? What documents may be required to justify the relationship etc if applying on a single remote salary? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks again
Thank you I’m actually in the Uk myself. I’m applying on behalf of my brother. May I ask, where did you have those documents notarised was this in the US? And who did you use to do this? Will the Portuguese Consulate accept notarising in your own country! Also specifically which documents are required to be notarised for example is the visa application form itself one of them. My brother will go in person to consulate in London so another question are you aware if they want hand written completed documents or typed up ones? Also did you provide anything written in Portuguese? Or was the entire application in English! I know these seem more mundane questions! I would be grateful for a reply? Many Thanks
Great video. Thank you for sharing. My wife and I are in the process of applying for the D7 Visa. do we both need to apply and if so may I use my wife's pension as a passive income for my self as well? I have a savings an IRA and 401K accounts may i use them? Thank you for your help.
Thanks a lot for sharing your journey! I'm going through the process and have a question, does the spouse apply separately once the the primary applicant is granted the visa or do we both apply at the same time.
Love your videos. In terms of proof or income was the bank's statement of regular income coming into the account enough or did you need to show the proof of business as well? Like, ownership or registration of the business etc? Thanks :)
Thanks for the video. Great information! Do you think 1+ year in advance is too early to get the NIF? Would I have to reapply if I changed source of income within that time?
Hello, great video, very informative! I work remotely for a company based in my home country (Australia) - I wonder if they require tax return records or just a work contract and bank statements? Other than a passport, did you have to show any other form of identification like birth certificates?
Hey Dan and Michelle, I was looking over the details of the D7 and it talks about Passive Income for 6 months. My 401k and retirement accounts easily meet this threshold, but I will not have it in a brokerage account that I can actively get to until I am older. Once the house sells in Austin then I will have that amount easily. But it says it needs to show 6 months of Passive income, is that 6 months of passive income like month over month, or the total of the minimum amount required, which I would generate in a month most likely. Essentially my original thinking was sell the house and on closing move to Portugal. Is that thinking flawed?
Great video! How did you coordinate the start date of accommodations to when you would arrive in Portugal not knowing when/if you would get the D7? and same for the plane tickets?
We just knew that most people were getting their visas in 2-6 weeks from Facebook groups so we purchased a ticket 8 weeks out. It was also refundable so we could change it if we wanted.
Hi Again! Thanks so much for your very valuable insights….One general question about the D7 visa…Did I interpret this rule correctly…Under the D7 Visa you are allowed 2 entries into Portugal during the 4 month time period of the visa…That means your first arrival into the country under the Visa is one entry…and then if I wanted to go home to the USA to deal with financial matters etc…I could leave and then come back into Portugal during that 4 month time period on the same visa and that would be my second entry..Did I get that right? Lots of ins and outs ..so just wanted to clarify the rules…You have been so helpful! I love your videos!
@@julieschreck7669 When you first enter Portugal using the D7 visa, you have 120 days to present yourself to the SEF and request a residence permit, then receiving the residence permit you are free to enter and exit as you need and desire.
Thanks for sharing your experience, There's a lot of confusion about the source of income out there, Is a self-employed worker/ Freelancer included in this Visa category?
Hey I am desperate to find out HOW MUCH TAX are you paying? Did you qualify for the NHR and how much total taxation are you paying including social contributions, everything
Understand that the bank account in Portugal required prior to D7 visa app in the consulate ? so how to open bank account without traveling to Portugal ?
Thanks, this is so helpful! In terms of opening a Portuguese bank account, did you both need to do this, or was it enough for just the lead applicant to have one?
Thank you so much for this info, I have a quick question I am confused about duration of return flight ticket - did you submit a return ticket or one way ticket in your application?
Situation: Family of four from US vacationing in Portugal. As head of household id like to get a D7 visa. Do you i have to travel back to the states in order to apply for it? If so, must my wife and children come with me and/or can they stay in Portugal?
THANKS, REALLY GOOD VIDEO!! I want to know something, How did you do to apply as a couple? I'm going to do the online application with my husband, but when I do, the form page is just for me.
Hi. Thanks for all the information shared in the vid. I have a question I haven’t been able to find the answer to. Do you know what is the max amount of time one can travel outside of Portugal (outside of Schengen) without losing the residence?
well my question is, when you apply embassy, do you need to tell them that i am applying for d7. because when i downloaded forms, i haven't seen d7 option. it is just saying short term and long term visa.please reply
