Originally filmed and released in 2015, I returned to the original footage in January this year after Dad passed away. I wanted to improve on the many things I didn't like about the original version, both technically and content-wise.
I've been working on this every day since Dad died. I think it's been my way of hanging onto him all this time, but now I must let him go by sharing this new version of the film of him talking about his life. 💔
Please film your loved ones so you can watch and hear them talk about their life after they've gone. The value of this film to our family cannot be underestimated.
Thanks for everything, Dad; I love you and miss you so much every day. xxxx

Very sorry about your loss, Phillip. A friend shot some interviews with his parents maybe 7 years ago and it led to me shooting a 1.5hr interview with my 88 year old grandmother. We lost her last year at 93. Having this interview is such a treat, I can't imagine the regret I would feel if I never did it. Pulling up the project this weekend to take another stab at putting together a final cut, finished in 4K, with touched up scanned photos for cutaways. We're lucky we're able to capture these moments. Thanks for not only teaching us how to do so, but showing any layman that they could, and should, do it themselves before it's too late. Much Love

Beautiful film. I thought of my father as I watched this. He passed away in 2017. I still think I didn't spend enough time with him while he was alive. This video helps me appreciate him all over again.

❤My Dad died 30 years ago when I was 26. I still miss him very much and talk to him every day. I don't think he can hear me, but he asked me to remember him. When I play a computer game or flight sim that he would have loved I tell him about it,. He loved cameras so when-ever I get a new camera I always tell him about it. This film is beautiful and touching.

Nothing makes me want to hug my Dad more, and maybe get a bit of his story down on film than watching the raw honesty of your Dad sharing his story with you. Here's to Arnie Bloom, who I regret I shall now never meet, but who I feel I know a very tiny bit now, and clearly he left the world a better place for having been here: his son shows us that. A decent bloke, with a life well-lived, and as all decent people, taken far too soon.

This movie to your father is incredibly moving. Those words and memories beautifully capture the essence of his spirit and the love you shared. "Having an elder in the family is like possessing a treasure." Your father was indeed a treasure, and his legacy lives on through you. Thank you for sharing such a personal and touching moment with us.

Well done Philip...must have been very difficult to go through again but also rewarding for you...such a personal and heartwarming piece on capturing your dad's life and story. A beautiful human. May his soul rest in peace. I wish I had done this with my dad, wanted to but he passed way too early a couple of years ago. At the end of the day these memories are the best thing we can hang on to of our loved ones.

Beautiful stuff Philip. A credit to your father’s legacy. His unblinking frankness was equal parts heartening and hilarious. I honestly couldn’t imagine putting two cameras on my own father and getting that amount of honesty out of him 😂 Preserving these stories for future generations of family is so important. We’ve been lucky in ours as my mother has been a hardcore genealogist and writer, who in recent years has collated ‘memory books’ of photos and stories of our grandparents as they’ve aged into their 80s. Sadly all but one now have passed before the thought (and means) to capture video of them and while the desire is there with my sole surviving grandfather, at 94 and suffering increasingly with fuzzy memory and dementia I’ve left my run too late. The best I can do now is take photos, on film, on each visit.

Well, Phillip, what an absolutely brilliant piece, as I've told you before, your work is painterly, and this is a stunning portrait of your Dad. I must admit a tear or two came to my eyes when your Dad started to tear up when he started talking about your mum. What a lovely man and such a gentle soul. BTW, I've been filming my 88 year old for about 15 years getting as many stories (he's a great raconteur!) as possible. Again, thanks for sharing such tremendous insight into your father's life. Peace be with you!

When your dad was on about his dad reminded me of my mum and dad, my mum did all the cooking and cleaning, I always feel like I’m lying when I say she literally got up at like 5:30am made my dad his breakfast before he went work, cleaning and did housework all day, went my dad came home she would cook his tea, clean the bath after he had used it and waiting for him to come back from the pub and cook his super at like midnight and made she he went bed OK and did that pretty much my entire life.

Thank you very much for watching. You should try something less formal like this. Ask stuff every now and then, perhaps spontaneously on your phone. Maybe with your mum if she’s still around or other family? Something where he is more relaxed and happy? I’ve been to Sydney many times and have spent a lot of time there. I miss it but I don’t think I will be back anytime soon, it’s just too far away and expensive for me these days.
