Hi Guys ..... As a seasoned uk live aboards of the last 10 years we found that it is essential to have good dehumidifyers ( one in each cabin if possible) ..., and as you have found ..a good dry air heating systen and a well fitting cockpit enclosure to hang damp oilies and dog towles etc .( It also increases the boats living space ). Good insulation ,ventilation in all cupboards and most importantly insulation under mattresses . Hope this helps .

Spooky!!!! After 5 years with MV Airo 5Kw we just fitted the exact same heater from eBay. The service kit for the Airo was more than the cost of the new heater from eBay. As we had already the "extras" you mentioned it was a no brainer. Especially when you do the maths £1400 over 5 years. Then £110 for the ebay heater. If it lasts a year we have saved money. When we took the Airo out and looked at the actual engineering there was very little difference. It was just the fitting kit and bits and bobs, as you say that were not "marine grade". The silicone coated insulation is great, we have it around our silencer too. We fitted some foam pipe insulation around the diesel pump to deaden the sound of the solenoid. That really helps. Hope Carly is recovering fast. Have a lovely Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.

Wow, that's chilly! We've had a few freezing nights now over here and the heater has done a great job of warming the boat so that we're blissfully unaware. We don't sleep with the heater running and I wake up normally an hour before Carly, so I switch the heater on then and when she wakes up the boat is all toasty and warm.

I have just fitted a similar unit in the campervan and like yours it was showing Hz instead of temperature, all I did (after searching interwebs ) was to press top left and top right together and it changes between temperature and pump pulse rate. I'm not an expert either, but I have installed a couple of heaters in a couple of ways. Some tipps from my experience: - Do not take the combustion air for the burner from the living quarters of your boat. This is because of the carbon monoxide hazzard and reads in the Webasto manual. (Also I don't think you get a correct reading from your alarm sensor now, because the heater has now the hot air intake in the same space and is effectively ventilating it.) - Install the fuelpump on a separate sound and vibration insulated platform. - Personally I trade economy for comfort and put the air intake outside. - Second reason is that I can use the heater for forced ventilation during hot days. - If not out side, run the air intake ducting to a room that has no hot air outlet, for better air circulation in your boat. - For additional comfort, run ducting to your toilet and foul weather gear closet. - If you intend to use your heater when sailing, install longitudinally. Other than that, good video and good points in your installation too!

Another great video. We have a similar system in our boat and it is brilliant. Never too many CO alarms, install in cabins and living area as this is where you live and will never notice when the poisoning starts and it may come from cooking too. Is the ticking from the pump driving you mad yet? There are many videos on RU-vid around this. Most conclude the pump needs to be hung and not fixed to well to a hard substrate. Just a thought.
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures 3 года назад
The ticking is annoying at first but we’ve since changed the pump (original one failed) and the new one seems much quieter, that or I’m just used to it by now, you know like people who live close to main roads who don’t notice the noise anymore, perhaps? 😬😬

Good job ...! Only issue is.. Fuel should be outside / on vehicle instlations you cannot install a fuel tank inside the cab / cabin ..its an insurance fail. And fire hazard.... also thick wall fuel pipe can sit too close to exaust port .. so we grind the ferrule end and fit steel pipe/ lines to tank ... Glad you're nice and warm ..there a game changer at silly money...! 👍
@davebridges688
@davebridges688 3 года назад
Most yachties are sat or stood over quite close to a lot of... diesel. Which is why we don't use petrol in the main. Personally would have put the tank in the engine bay or further aft as topping up is going to be smelly! Have a look at Sailing Life; Mads has got 2/300L of diesel in the base of his galley island in the middle of the salon! Many have big tanks under the cabin sole. Good point re: last bit of hose to the unit though.
@wilco157
@wilco157 3 года назад
Hi been fitting/ repairing wabasto and herberspatcher for 18 years ..I was a psv electrician. (For National Bus) now retired .. fitted engine diesel tanks in cabin are usually 99.9% vented outside..! Our etap yacht fuel tank is built in in locker 2. ( now not used ..as i am half way through fitting a torqueedo pod.. lol The Chinese heater tank valve is although "one way" can also be problematic. Also the tank neck needs facing up with wet and dry and a block, as the plastic molding can rough. Its all about "good practice" Outside of main cabin...is the best way. With a heeled over boat, for hours or even days..with a full heater diesel tank ...and your asking for trouble..! Not to mention the filling hazard..! If you extend the neck to a deck fitting it will help. Also running excessive exhaust length.. will apart from back pressure..! It can cause heavy condensation.. if one isn't fitted, you need a exhaust "trapped" condensation loop. .. Best regards Rich

Good to see you back.👍 Carly has my empathy - I went down back in October with high temp, persistent cough but a negative PCR test. The coughing was so bad I moved into the spare bedroom as it bad coughing episodes in the day but was horrendous at night😂 It took six weeks to resolve- never had nowt like that afore. Good install with good attention to detail especially on the exhaust. Are you aware you can get ceramic fibre rope (sometimes called stove rope) to insulate the difficult pieces around brackets and the component right against the hull. A standard rule of thumb in HVAC is 10% fresh air make up in a recirculated system. If you have a vent in your companion way hatches that should suffice. I suppose you could always get a meter to measure the Carbon Dioxide levels in the cabin because that is the ‘proxy’ of stale air. Did I miss something? Are you working in the Marina workshops now? I thought wow he looks at home in that workshop he seems to know where everything is! I am the only user in my shop and I can never find anything.😂 Have a good Christmas and New Year you three!🎄⛵️😀👍
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures 3 года назад
Some great tips there Norman! We do keep all the hatches cracked open to help with airflow. Your condition sounds exactly like Carlys, we could have sworn it was Covid, but she tested negative. The coughing was always so much worse at night, or whenever she was laying down. And yes I am working in the marina with the guys here. More of a general dogs body (I feel like they're doing me a favour more than anything 🤣) I help them with the skilled work, mostly passing tools to them and lifting heavy stuff like the masts, but one of the major perks is I get to watch and learn so much as well as being allowed to use the tools for anything I need, after hours of course. 😬

Interesting installation. I have never seen one of these modified for boat installation. Just one caution comes to mind. You showed us how you could hold the super insulated exhaust pipe. What about the bracket, which is attached over just small insulation. Is there a danger that it could get so hot it could burn the wood it is attached to? Another thought has just come to mind. If you could find a route to run the fuel pipe from the boat diesel tank it would be way more convenient, and potentialy much less smelly. Then maybe you could mount the pump further away, so that you don't hear it. So sad to see lovely Carly so poorly. Hope you are soon much better. Virtual hugs and kisses to you Carly!
@CadohaAdventures
@CadohaAdventures 3 года назад
Hey thanks for the feedback. The bracket where it connects to the wall doesn't seem to get too hot at all, thankfully, but it was something that I did think about too, so not sure what I would have tried if it did get worryingly hot, consulted RU-vid again I think 😂 We did think about a direct connection to the boats fuel system, but we've had so many issues with our old fuel tanks this year that I thought I'd sooner keep them separate, even if it was more of a chore to keep filling them up. But maybe in the future, once I get fully on top of the boats fuel system, perhaps I'll feel brave enough to rig it up directly 🙏🏻😁

Hello from across the pond, in Alaska! Yours is the first video I've watched that actually showed how one of these units is installed, plus some additional safety things you've done. As for the insulating board under the heater that you added, better to err on the side of safety! Looks like a pretty good install, all the way around. I would be curious about how much diesel the unit seems to use per day, as well as how much power it draws from your batteries. I've a 30' sailboat here in Alaska that has a wall mounted Dickinson diesel heater that does a good job of keeping most of the boat quite warm, but I'm thinking about purchasing a 34' trawler style power boat and would like to install a forced air unit that can provided heat to the forward and aft cabins, which sit low in the boat. I'm thinking that since the salon of this power boat is higher than either cabin, the heat from the lower cabins will escape and also heat the salon/galley areas, so I'd like to tailor the size of the diesel tank for the heater so that I won't have to fill it each day. Looks like the stock tank is rather small and am wondering if a 5 gallon jerry can of diesel will last a few days. Perhaps you could do a followup video on this sometime?! I've bookmarked your video as a 'favorite' so I can refer to it in the future if I get this powerboat. Thanks for the link to the additional upgraded parts you purchased for your heather. Cheers!

vagabond epicurean (based in maryland usa) installed one of those on his 30ft sailboat. they are currently travelling down the ICW, to get to warmer climes. As for Carly's cough, I had the precursor to pneumonia about 20 years ago and to say the least it was no fun. Hope she gets or got better after the heater did it's job. Jubilee clips aka hose clamps.

Thank you, she certainly seems to be making an epic recovery since the heating went in, which, to be fair, also coincided with a second round of antibiotics, which, I guess may have helped a little bit too.

I know you didn't show it and I'm not sure if anyone asked but do you have a return vent for cold air to the heater? Because it will help it heat dramatically if it doesn't have to pull a vacuum to bring air back in under the seating from around all the gaps. Just an open vent back into that compartment.

Well done. I fitted one to replace an Eberspacher all the pipes and tubes were a complete match which saved loads of money. My diesel comes from the fuel tank .if anyone does that make sure the clamps are tight. Engine cut out due to air getting in via the heater fuel line. In a force 6. Get Well try to be active as that will help clear your lungs don't lay flat.

Hi Folks, stumbled across your channel so went back to start - now 7 episodes in, very enjoyable. But what a surprise - I kept my boat at Inverkip on Firth of Clyde but moved it to Peterhead in September (I live in Aberdeenshire and anticipated local lockdowns). I'm at far end of pontoon you guys were on, directly opposite Brian & Anne, and I had watched Sailing Creo too. Anyway, looking forward to catching up with forthcoming episodes. However as a matter of urgency can you tell me what breed Hank is? My partner and I think he's a Vizsla, but not sure. He's just a magnificent looking dog - beautiful coat, athletic and such a sparky look about his personality. She's been trying to persuade me to get a dog for about 10 years, and Hank may have swung the deal! Thanks in advance.

What an incredibly small world! Please say hello to Brian and Anne from us, we hope they're both well! 🙏🏻 Hank is indeed a Hungarian Vizsla and he's an absolute gem of a dog, we're super lucky to have him in our lives. They're really high energy dogs when they're outside, so if you like long walks then they're the perfect fit, when Hank is indoors though, he's possibly the laziest dog I know, just sleeps all the time, it's like he has a split personality 😂

Hey there. It’s a 38ft sailing boat and I can’t remember what it’s rated for but it’s the ‘cubic mini grizzly’ stove, made in Canada, so if you look them up you should be able to find all the specs for it. Hope that helps 🙏🏼☺️

Just realised it’s the diesel heater you’re asking after. Ignore my last post then, that’s for our wood burner. The Chinese diesel heater is ‘rated’ at 5kw. I’ve never tried to measure how accurate that is, but it keeps the boat warm in the two areas we vent it to.

and finally, if the clicking of the pump bothers you, you can either suspend it with string or rubber or something so the sound doesnt resonate, or wrap it in some kind of insulation. personally, i find it quite soothing, like a metonome or a grandfather clock.

Yeah a few tips to anyone fitting one of these heaters or who already has one Take everything following as something I did and not nessesarily what anyone/you should do, I am NOT a professioanal and you chose your own settings and methods for doing things on your equipment, however I am a liveaboard and have fitted my heater myself and it runs all day every day under the following conditions for a good number of years now, only stopping and starting inorder to fill up the 20 litre outboard fuel tank I have it hooked up to, The valve on the quick connect saves it from introducing airlock into the fuel pipe also, meaning they wont be any that have to be purged each fill up, I did it this way because I don't want to be messing with a fuel transfer pump or pouring fuel into a funnel or such, which is just dangerous and messy on a boat, I have not had a bit of trouble out of my heater since tweaking the settings and using the fuel additive (however I certainly did before) without further adoo on the sooting up of the deiesel heater, this happens especially when run on low heat for prolonged periods, especially when some of us that like to tinker with these newer chinese controllers factory settings and turn them way down in the settings, so we don't have to turn them off when the boat gets a little too toasty, also to save them from drying the air out a little too much or getting the boat too hot too quickly some people like to turn off the thermostaticly controlled aspect of the controller off and just use the pulse settings to control the unit, as this maintains a more constant heat and can save massive amounts of fuel and saves you from having to turn it down when, also for if you leave the hatch open on occasion seen as if you leave the hatch open the thermostat wont kick in and try to make up for the lost heat, it will use the same amount of fuel it would have if the hatch was closed, it will just let the heat out for that period of time the hatch was open is all I have seen these heaters factory settings set to 1.5/1.6 in the idle or low end of the pulse settings which is just way too hot for my 24 ft boat, these heaters can be dropped down in the settings to the equivalent of about an 800w heater when idling = 0.8 in the lower pulse setting and 1500 rpm on the lower fan speed when doing so which also allows for correct fuel to air ratio when doing so and then on the hight setting I have seen them set way too high on the high side of the pulse setting (seen them set to like 5.6 and above) and too low on the fan setting on the high also which would give bad fuel air ratio and dangerously overheat and waste fuel the unit IMO I personally wouldnt go over 5.0 on the high side of the pulse setting and have mine set to on the high fan speed all the way to max 5000 rpm (the computer controls this according to a number of conditions while runnign so it's not nessesarily going to be blasting it up to 5000 rpm when it kicks up, it just ramps up to what it needs the rpm to be for the conditions generally over time the custom settings will mean you will be able to run the heater continuously all day every day on idle taking the edge off and keeping the boat from being humid without it beant too hot, which will mean on idle it will be more prone to sooting up, some of this can be prolonged by running the heater on full power for a while every now and again to blast iany build up out, however doing this uses tonnes of fuel over time and really only prolongs the inevitable is some cases, so here is the fix I persoanlly use to overcome any sooting up issues and clogging of the atomizer screen and deposit on the glowplug, Exocet Gas Oil Supreme Fuel Additive - 1 Litre here is an example of the one I use, I have seen people charging rediculous prices for this stuff so I urge you shop arround, www.ernestdoeshop.com/product/exocet-gas-oil-supreme-fuel-additive/?attribute_pa_size=1-litre it's cheap and you only need a small measured amount in each fuel fill up to keep the heater from sooting up, this will need to be measured (I use a Syringe) 1 liter will last me a couple of years at the very least basically and at £20/£24 inc-vat it just pays for itself and it's going to reduce the cost an annoyance of taking appart and replacing the atomizer screen and all that annoying maintenance stuff WARNING this stuff is highly concentrated and dangerous, use throw away gloves when dosing, clean up any spill or drip thoughly and if your reusing the syringe store it in a sealed container safely away from pets and kids possibly coming into contact with it (cannot stress that enough) the exocet allows me to run on 0.8 continuously without the need to ever ramp it up to high to give it a blast out, This stuff is used for anything from Cars/Tractors/Marine engines to diesel based home heating systems as a standard additive also on the exhaust pipe make sure you use some Exhaust Paste to seal the joints (I used and reccomend Granville)

Nice video. It looks like your fuel pump is mounted horizontal aka flat to the sole of that locker. It should be mounted at an angle like 45 degrees or so. This is so you don't develop an airlock within the pump.

Gosh! Worth researching whether red diesel will be allowed in pleasure craft (and non-fixed homes) from January 1st. 2021. It was banned by Brussels [EU] in recent years and UK lost an appeal. Reduced tax red diesel makes that unit very economical. [you might find you can use a low-tax heating oil/diesel anyway since it's not for propulsion and in a separate tank]
