I feel like I'm one of the only oldheads who's just kinda universally up on this set. I think mechanically it looks extraordinarily fun, if not the most creative thing ive ever seen. I think the flavor is super on point, if a bit more youth oriented. None of those ifs are real detractors to me, and all of the preceeding statements are just points of hype. Really looking forward to otter storming someone into next month.

I started playing with Ice Age, have been really down on Universes Beyond and some recent themes like OTJ. But I am hyped for Bloomburrow because it is both cute and has legit fantasy vibes.

@@cdadamlyprecisely how I feel. "Magical animal plane that polymorphs you" is great fantasy flavor. The art is beautiful, and the cards just look fun. After super smash brothers cowboy plane and a deluge of UB I'm happy to see a nice-looking, mechanically interesting fantasy setting.

“Otter Von Bismarck” might be the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while.

the "enters" instead of etb i cant stand. the simple verb Enters is too ambiguous; having the information of Where something enters into i think is important. without previously understanding the mechanics of the game, you literally read the card to understand the card. okay, the card enters - enters What?..

Ehh I think you’ll get over it. There’s really no other zone for a permanent to “enter”. Things “die”, “go to”, or are “put into” a graveyard. They “get exiled” or “returned to” a player’s hand. The only place to enter is the battlefield. It sounds weird to you, because it’s new, but tweaking game terminology is just part of Magic. Enters the battlefield itself used to be called comes into play. Not having to write “the battlefield” over and over sure saves a lot of text space. I feel like it’s overall a sensible change.

They needed to do that. Cards need to have more and more abilities. This takes away words so cards can have more abilities fit in the text box. I think it’s ridiculous this is why, but that’s why.

@@christopherlundgren1700, right but for new players and people whose native language isnt english, it's a headache. permanent & spells moving from zone to zone given the current terminology makes sense. the life/death cycle is easily understood as we all lige and die. exiling things is also suggestive to what happens to the card. but just enter? its too ambiguous. things technically enter the graveyard, enter the exile zone, enter the ante zone if you're living life dangerously, so i dont like the shortcut for this. magic is a Very Detailed Upon the Language game. something that can be said nearly the exact same way can actually be two seperate actions entirely. it's a lot of like law/learning law. omitting things like this might for you and me, seasoned magic players be a mild nuisance, but for new players - there is zero direction on the card without previously understanding any of the game rules. this is also why people say english is a difficult language. we have many words that dont give any indication how they're actually pronounced & non native speakers hate this. the same could be said about this change

@@christopherlundgren1700, heh...well let's be thankful they didnt take any cues from the past & shortcut 'comes into play' to 'Comes' 🤣 id be able to handle "nicol bolas Comes" exactly once before reverting back to the sense of humour of a six year and laughing out loud at that everytime

paws is cool mechanically, but i feel the choice to use paws for it limits its usability in future sets

Ought to have been something else like a star, diamond, square.. really anything generic.

There's no reason they can't change the symbol on future cards like these in order to fit the set's flavor, because the paws only matter for that specific cycle of cards. Nothing else in the set cares about the paws in any way.

I really want to love Bloomburrow, but something feels off. I don't like the wording on offer a gift, and the paw prints feel "un-magic" to me in that way that is totally subjective and almost meaningless even to myself. I think I've likely fallen out of love with Magic as it exists today, but not Magic as a game/rules engine. It feels like something broke at Battle for Zendikar and hasn't been regained, but that's probably a totally arbitrary thing for me.

i think this feeling is mutual amongst all older magic players but i think the point in which it began differs from person to person. for me, it was when other universes were introduced into the game. for others, it's when FIRE became the main design philosophy behind cards and sets. it just differs from person to person. i also don't disparage anyone who enjoys the game as it is now though and i totally see the appeal, it just feels a bit different from the game i fell in love with many many years ago

That’s a you problem, not a Magic problem. This set is everything.
