In Brazil there was a similar case, but not only the doctor inseminated some of the patients with his own sperm he also raped a couple of patients. It is truly a terrible story.

Adoption is a much more difficult & expensive process than you might realize. Human adoption is not like adopting a puppy. You can be on waiting lists for years, you may not be approved to adopt because of your family structure or income/ living situation, there are far fewer infants in the US being put up for adoption than there are parents looking to adopt, it's become increasingly harder to adopt children from abroad (China is a prime example). Fostering is not the same as adoption for many, many reasons that are too exhaustive to get into . My mother was denied from an adoption agency but cleared for IVF. Also, I have a friend who was adopted from China, and her parents spent around the same amount of money adopting as my mother spent getting IVF. And while this is one case of gross malpractice, the VAST majority of children from sperm donations & IVF live normal lives. Myself included.
