Such a GREAT video! We have all been in that position of finding a guitar that we absolutely bond with! Scared to put it back on the wall just incase someone buys it. I'm picking up a '56 VOS this weekend! This video helps with the excitement!
I wonder how close you could get by buying a 2022 LPS 50's Goldtop with P90s and replace the pickups with Throwbak's 55/56 P90. For about half the price.
I used to think the same thing. Then a friend gave me an R6. There is a obvious difference in quality. It’s not just the pickups. I don’t know that it’s worth triple the price of a regular standard but there’s an obvious upgrade in feel, finish, playability etc. that I don’t think a simple pickup swap is gonna get you there. The custom shop uses lighter, higher choice woods, gets much more attention to detail, QC, etc. Mine is under 8lbs, how many Les Pauls you see under 8lbs in the standard line.? I think it’s a little silly what they cost personally but they are many steps ahead of the standard line (I’ve had 3 different standards over the years that all ended up getting sold eventually - my R6 my get buried with me).
I agree with you here. I have an R8 as well as several Gibson Standards and the R8 is unquestionably more "quality" feeling - a combination of fretwork, fretboard wood choice, body wood choice and electronics/hardware. Is it worth the massively high price compared to the Standards? IMO, no freakin' way. I love it and am very fortunate and blessed to be able to own one, and its a nostalgia thing for me because of my age/era I grew up in - but the R8 is ridiculously expensive for what it is. WAY over priced. No way is it a "must have" over the basic Gibson Standard. Just my opinion here. 🙂@@mmatthewias280
Guitar can be an addiction. Some of us --what? MOST of us go through this! Three of the five senses involved, and I guess, when you add in the perfume of a new or vintage guitar wafting out of that case you might have just opened ... well, it can be overwhelming. Thankfully, I am old and don't get to many music stores anymore, and most around me do not carry anything quite this pricey anyway!
Beautiful playing. This will be my next guitar. Can please tell me what amp you were playing any if you were using a pedal? Incredible tone but that also has a lot to do with your excellent playing!!!
Great playing and cool guitar. ...but stop calling it double gold. Double gold dosen't have a natural back. I thought DG meant gold on the back and neck. Correct me if I'm wrong. Either way great demo👍
I have the 50s Std of this but…. Now I want that! But I just bought an R9 like 20 minutes ago so…. Maybe I should calm myself. My Std is possibly the heaviest Les Paul I own out of 7. I think it’s just under 11.
I also have the 50s standard p90. I don't get why these customs cost 5,000. At the end of the day id like a real side by side comparison. Ok the pickups are slightly different, the woods a bit different. But so much difference can they make?? And cost..
