Hugely enjoyable doing my job with Micky M. playing his ( can't remember what year his Gold Top was but def 50's, he had humbuckers fitted) and Bernie playing mine. Wonderful memories.👍🇬🇧

I have always wanted a '59 but when I've went to buy my first reissue Les Paul I could not resist the tone and sustain of a Murphy Labs Double gold R7 Light aged. It was head ans shoulders above any other Les Paul in the shop. At one moment I thought wait let me check the Normal CS R7 it might be the plain top and or narrow tall frets or what ever, but nope that one was just feeling dead in the hands and tone was not there. Got it for my 50th B-day as present to my self. In mean time only mod on it I have done was complicated enough. I have changed all the cables to proper vintage spec braided wire. Even wire from the pickups involving the hearth surgery on the Custombuckers Alnico III pickups. Man it was surely worth it. Guitar even became louder. Way more tone comes out of it while less is sucked by the cables capacitance. I feel so lucky that I've got this master peace. Thus is one in a thousand Les Paul. Not to mention that my second choice after the burst would be a gold top as homage to Duane, Billy G. , and many more people making history with it. Now it is my most often played guitar although I have few good guitars. I play it even more often than my PRS 594 Woodlibrary 10 Top that is on it's own crazy good guitar. Anyhow Gold tops rock and I love them.

In between my junior and senior year in college (University to some of you across the pond) in 1978 my next door neighbor was having a yard sale and a friend of theirs put a mid-50's Les Paul gold top with P-90's up for sale there for between $300 and $350. I had just made the payment for the fall semester and had very little in my bank account so I asked my father if he could front me the money. He then asked if that was the guitar I really wanted as the plan was to continue to use the Les Paul Junior I had borrowed from my brother in law and buy one of my own in later 79 or 80 after I graduated and was making a living. At that time he made a lot of sense and so we passed on the guitar. It may have been one of the few times in my youth that I actually listened to him, and hindsight being 20/20, I shouldn't have, but who knew at that time. (Thanks for letting me vent a little)

THAT SOLO WAS THE BEST IVE HEARD IN MODERN TIMES! AMAZING, IT WAS A BUCK CLASSIC WITH A BURNING GARY MOORE, HAUNTED HOUSE SOUNDING BLUES THEME..TO ME YOUR THE MOST ORIGINAL GUITAR VIRTUOSO OUT THERE...IM NOT PLAYING GUITAR NEARLY AS LONG AS YOU, IM A BLUES/SOUL SINGER SINCE I CAN TALK, NOT TOO LONG AGO I PICKED UP GUITAR DUE TO EVERY PLAYER I EVER RECORDED WITH JUST SOUNDED LIKE THEY JUST COPIED CLAPTON/HENDRIX ETC... I WORKED LIKE A MAN POSESSED....PROMISING MYSELF I WOULD NEVER PLAY ANOTHER GUITAR PLAYERS LICK, OR BE ANOTHER GUY TRYING TO SOUND LIKE ANYONE, NOT THAT THATS WRONG... IM JUST GLAD I STUCK TO MY GUNS..I LISDTEN TO THE GREATS, I STUDY THEM, GET INSPIRED, AND ANYTHING THAT RUBS OFF ON ME I MAKE SURE IT COMES FROM INSIDE OF ME AND BECOMES MY THING! I JUST WANNA SOUND LIKE ME! AND I CLEARLY HEAR THE AUTHENTICITY IN YOUR PLAYING! YOU SHOULD BE PROUD ONLY GUYS I KNOW THAT TOTALLY HAD THERE OWN STYLE, LICKS, ETC...IS HENDRIX, COLLINS, B.B, ALBERT KING,AND CLAPTON WAS INSPIRED BY THEM BUT IS HIS OWN BEAST.......I SAID GARY MOORE ONLY BC OF A NOTE CHOICE I HEARD IN THE SOLO, NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW YOU PLAY, YOUR STYLE IS FRESH OUT THE BOX KIDDDDDD! Owned three gold tops, never understood the greening effect on them. Had an actual 56 w/P90's, checked all over and green where my right forearm draped across it. About 10 years ago bought a 56 RI it began to check and green in the first year. Now I have a '57 RI and it won't crack or craze or green. What I used to think was my body chemistry might just be paint makeup. Granted I did have almost 2 years of chemo, radiation and a bone marrow transplant which changed my body makeup, genetically and even my blood type...but, I tend to think it's the paint used. Chris you are an inspiration, Thank you.
