Great video guys! Looking good! I'm heading back to the pct this year, as I wasn't able to get much in last year due to many factors... But I'm very excited to get back out there! I hope you are doing well, and have some fun adventures planned this summer! Thank you for all your great videos!
Thanks Bryan. We were disappointed that we didn't get to meet up with you last year but completely understood why you decided to delay your hike until this year: 2020 was a bizarre year for PCT hikers. We loved our adventure and hope that you'll post videos of your hike this year so we can relive the experience through your eyes.
@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 thank you! Yes that definitely would have been nice to meet up! Yeah I did come out in July but didn't make it very far.. had my pack stolen outside of a park. But yes I'm definitely very excited about going this year and making some real miles! I'll definitely be posting videos:))
@@bawattsyl we would be glad to share any info you have about the PCT if it will increase your chances of a successful hike. You can email me directly at ken.w.anderson56@gmail.com
A few notes from my '22 hike. Ditto on Kennedy Meadows Resort and Trout Lake. Both are great places to resupply. My " PCT Secret Town " is Lake Arrowhead in SoCal. Cool place for a Zero. Good resupply with a gear store, and the lake tour is cool.
Agree with Lake Arrowhead. We resupplied there in the small, but we'll stocked grocery store and then had a great meal at their malt shop (sorry, don't remember the name, but I remember it being an old-car themed restaurant).
We have been talking about doing just that! No firm plans yet, but if we do go out it will probably be to finish up the Washington sections we had to skip due to last year's forest fires. It's been hard watching this year's hikers posting their videos; it really makes us miss the trail.
Thank you! Life has been a series of ups-and-downs since we got off the trail. We really miss it a lot and are discussing plans to return this summer and fill in some of the sections we had to skip.
@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 we're in the Redding, CA, area. I can't recall what areas you might want to go back to but if you're near us you can have a shower, warm bed, meal, etc. Whatever would help. Take good care!
Hi Melissa! We're doing some shorter hikes this summer and I plan to make videos. We're also hoping to attend PCT Days next month to make up for missing it last year (it was canceled last year due to Covid).
Hi Ken and Thia. It's good to hear you guys are still hiking. Looking forward to seeing your videos. I didn't know about pct days. What is that? Keep hiking and can't wait to see your next adventure. Sending lots of good vibes.
Thank you for recommending my home turf of Kennedy Meadows in the Sonora Pass area!!! I take this place for granted. I missed you guys by a day last year ( I was on my own backpacking trip). I followed your trip religiously. Lone Pine is also a great place. Happy trails ....
Awww so great seeing you both again. As I haven't hiked the PCT yet, I can't know for sure, but pretty sure I agree with Kennedy Meadows North! I left for my first backpacking trip from that spot less than 5 years ago and head back every year. My PCT start date is March 21!
Hi Miya! So sorry that I'm so slow with my response. You start in 2 weeks!! How exciting! I hope you will video your hike so we can follow you. It will be hard at times but you are going to have the greatest experience of your life!
@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 No worries! Thanks for the kind wishes! I am so excited and freaking out haha. No vlogging for me, too much work, I attempted! I don't have a knack for it like you do 😀 I will just be photographing my journey and sharing on Instagram.
Good to see you both looking well. I like to see a video on how you overcame your leg injury and hiked the PCT. I am a hiker and was planning this hike in 2021. a month ago during a local hike, broke my ankle and now have a metal plate with a bunch of screws and trying to recover. Any encouragement and tips will be highly appreciated. Got to get back to those mountains.
Damn! Sorry to hear about your injury. Hopefully you are well on your way to recovery and still might be able to hit the PCT in the next month or so. My best encouragement is to simply not let this injury be an "excuse" for not at least trying. I myself had no idea if I'd make it even 10 miles down the trail before my leg injuries (both were severely mangled) would force me to quit. But I vowed I was going to give it my best shot. If I failed, at least I could leave the trail with my head held high! For more specific advice: 1. Do your required physical therapy, but don't let your doctor keep you from trying. My own doctors told me I would never backpack again, and would have to rely on a cane to walk the rest of my life. Ha! 2. Get the best shoes (or boots) you can afford. Everybody thinks you have to wear trail runners. I didn't, and you don't either. If you need to wear a brace then by all means wear one. 3. Use trekking poles. They can take a load off your legs and give you additional stability that may prevent reinjuring your ankle. 4. Listen to your body. If your foot bothers you, slow down your pace and maybe even hike shorter days for awhile or even take day or two off to let it recover. Elevate your foot and ice it if you can. Don't do anything to make it worse, but know thee difference between discomfort from soreness and actual pain that needs to be listened to. 5. Lighten your pack. All thru-hikers try to keep their pack weight down, but it's even more important if you're nursing an injury. 6. Don't listen to the naysayers. Your doctor, family, or friends will try to discourage you from doing this hike. In my experience most people just don't want to do anything uncomfortable. Listen to yourself, not them. Good luck!
@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 You are awesome. Thanks for the advice and tips. I shall cherish this coming from a pro. You are an inspiration. Thank you for all these videos and best to your lovely wife. God Bless.
Really good choices of towns. Though I’ve not been to Kennedy meadows north yet but after seeing your layover there this past year I totally want to go
Was just thinking of you two, wondering how you have been doing. I know Thia is on a new track from Facebook, but is good to see you posting again. Keep posting.
Great to see you guys again - looking so good and ready for adventure. I love Lone Pine and I do hope you dined at the Alabama Hills Restaurant with all their homemade breads. One of my favorite restaurants in all of California.
Thanks Linda! It's been a bit of a bumpy ride since we got off trail but things are looking up now and we are even talking about going back out this summer to make up some of the sections we skipped due to the forest fires.
Good question! We plan to go back out to try to fill in some of the sections we had to skip due to the fires. We really hope they don't cancel PCT Days again.
@@kenthiasoutdooradventures2294 It was! I made it out hours before the first snowfall. I look back at all the trail miracles ( including yours) and it amazing when things come on the trail right at the moment you need them.
