I would highly recommend watching Peter's Growing Up Live concert video. It is heaven and includes a live performance of Sky Blue with the Blind Boys of Alabama.

FUN FACT: On this track guitar is played by Peter Green - best known as leader of Fleetwood Mac in late 60's and early 70's (sadly he passed away in July last year)

This song is almost mystical. The reprise with the beautiful voices of The Blind Boys Of Alabama is soul lifting.

I also saw this live. He had the Blind Boys of Alabama sitting in a lower stage that slowly lifted up as they sang. I’ve been to hundreds of concerts and it’s the first time I just stood, dumbfounded and cried at how beautiful it was.

The entire Secret World live album is amazing. “In your eyes”, “Red Rain”, and “Shaken the Tree” are exceptional. His concerts are like Supertramp, , not just concert, but a theatrical, musical and sensual experience . So good…..please dive in.

As an aside, the duet with Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush is beautiful... Don’t Give Up. The video makes me go all shivery.

The choir at the end is The Blind Boys of Alabama. In Gabriel's 2003 concert tour, The Blind Boys were the opening act, and as Gabriel often does, he brought them back onstage later in his own act, to sing on this song and one or two more. These four ancient men, all of them sightless, have powerhouse voices each on his own, but when combined, they produce overtones that pierce into the arena and into one's soul.

The last masterpiece's album from Peter. Hope one day we'll get a new album.... before his death (the later as possible). Try"I grieve", "Darkness", "Signal to noise" from the same album. If you want to dig in more Peter, all is marvelous music. I wish you to try "Passion" (the whole thing on your own apart from your channel with headphones), the music from the Scorcese's movie "The last temptation of Christ" (1989) which is fantastic!!!

This completely agrees with Franck B. I wish you could hear all of "Passion" (or at least react to "A different Drum") which is Gabriel's melody that inspires me the most. Congratulations on sharing great music!

Funny you should say Scorsese... he directed a movie where Peter Gabriel did the soundtrack. It's called Last Temptation of Christ (1988) with Willem Dafoe playing Jesus, and Peter's OST is called Passion (1989) which is one of the best things he's ever made if you like world music.

I’m a huge PG fan. Interesting pick! My personal favorites are San Jacinto, Family Snapshot, I Grieve, and right now it’s Covid appropriate to listen to I Have the Touch. Genesis PG includes Cinema Show and Supper’s Ready as my top two. The lyrics of all these songs are intense and should be read separately.

Peter Gabriel 3rd album [ MELT ] there are no cymbals in the drumming on the whole album. It was a request from Peter, they use other sounds from different rhythm instruments very cool in sounds and the album is brilliant. My favorite is ""No Self Control""

Thank you for reacting to this!! I loved your reference to Pat Metheny, also!! Peter Gabriel and Pat Metheny are on my list of my top ten favorite artists/bands, and The Beatles are obviously included on that list. And they are the two that get past the surface with me and into my soul. Thank you again!

This song was re-recorded for the soundtrack to the 2002 film The Rabbit-Proof Fence. It appears twice as "Ngankarrparni (Sky Blue - Reprise)" and "Cloudless" on the resulting soundtrack album "Long Walk Home: Music From The Rabbit-Proof Fence". The chorus/outro melody also appears on a piece called "Gracie's Recapture" from the same soundtrack. All definitely worth listening to. 🙂🙂

This is a lovely piece. Same with "In Your Eyes". Not sure what the 'mood' is for Peter Gabriel with all the styles he records in. Check out his early solo albums. "Here Comes the Flood", "Humdrum", "Games Without Frontiers", "San Jacinto", "Solsbury Hill".

Hi and Nik and Lex, Once again thank you for such an emotional reaction, you guys I am on your wave length I always get so emotional with so many bands/ solo artists of the 70s they were so original. Peter solo output was so original into African Music he included African artists on his early albums, he is actually a Humanist and Human rights activist back then this comes through on his Albums, try listening to Biko (Steve Biko) the Black civil rights leader of South Africa who died in police custody in the late 70s.

Hi, Gabriel is a incredible artist !! His products are always well constructed !! Full of details in his music ... sounds and rhythms. I recommend : Lay your hands on me (1982) !! O-O Mercy street (1986) Only us (1992) Come talk to me (1992) Growing up, I grieve, More than this, Signal to noise (2002). Among the unrecognized songs or albums, you can listen to: Passion album (1989).. masterpiece Ovo album (2000)... masterpiece More recently, "I'm amazing" (2016).. song about boxer Mohamed Ali.... Amazing !!!! Waiting your next PG's react !! ;-)

For your own personal enjoyment, I recommend Peter’s live concert DVD from Milan called Growing Up Live. Every song seems to have a visual element of interest. On Sky Blue, it was the Blind Boys of Alabama rising up from below the stage to sing the chorus. Very stirring. My favorite on the DVD is Downside Up because of a perspective change 😉. Since you’re big Al Di Meola fans, have you considered reacting to one of the tunes off of Friday Night in San Francisco? It’s how I discovered Paco De Lucia, one of the greats. Mediterranean Sundance / Rio Ancho might be worth a listen, if you never heard it before. Enjoy.

On a side note, I dont believe you've done King Crimson yet. Crimson is the band in the early seventies that influenced both Genesis And Yes ( as well as traded members with ). Crimson have continued to be the cutting edge of progressive music for 50 years. the more modern versions of King Crimson have also been a huge influence on bands and artist such as Porcupine Tree, Tool, Opeth, Primus, and Peter Gabriel. The Original version from 1969 was fronted by Greg Lake (ELP), Later versions by John Wetton (Asia), and in the eighties and nineties Adrian Belew. I would recommend the title track of 1969's "In The Court Of The Crimson King" or the track "21st Century Schiziod Man", Both With Greg Lake. Or "Starless" from the John Wetton era . You need to do these cuts. I've seen your tastes. YOU WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.....TRUST ME.

Do yourself a favor. You need to hear this from the Growing Up live performance. I saw Nick walking with his fingers because the beat to the song is a walking beat even though there are references to flying. Interestingly the performance has Peter walking on an actual stage sized turntable. At the end the performance by The Blind Boys of Alabama will melt your heart. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IZXpHF5MCbc.html

It’s a symphonic prog album that consists of two 20 minute epics entitled Marshmallow, and Moondust. The album is totally solo with every instrument being played and composed by Antony. Antony Kalugin is also the creative mind behind Karfagen in addition to a few other projects. I’d love to hear your opinions on this album, it was probably one of my favorite albums of 2020.
