Absolutely. I declined to go to the London show because I was starting to hate arenas. When the BluRay and album came out, big regrets! 🤦‍♂️ I did go to the next tour at the Docklands Arena, but I don’t think it was as good as this tour.

Had this on DVD and recently upgraded to the bluray. This section usually makes me Well up. An amazing band but special mention to David Rhodes (guitar) and Tony Levin (bass) who's voices have been on most of his albums too (Tony from the first, David since the 3rd)

100% A Masterpiece !

It's like he's hearing a different frequency of the song. He hears all the subdivisions that us commoners don't hear. Always enjoyed his work.

His voice and phrasing on the instrument are all his own. He kind of has an accent on kit as he does with his speaking voice!

A lot of complex syncopation but he never loses the beat.

Sinead O'Connor was supposed to be on the tour, but she had to drop out, and they got Paula last minute. She absolutely slayed it.

What a lovely sentiment from Paula. Gabriel is clearly brilliant and that is shown in how effortless the whole production was. Pure joy.

Love to see you review Paula Cole’s solo work. This Fire is a stellar album. Anything on it is worth reviewing, but the opening track, Tiger, is a real eye opener. She is spectacular.

After this tour ended, Paula Cole released her first solo album, “Harbinger,” and then started a tour opening for Sarah McLachlan. Notable because the industry execs insisted that you couldn’t have two female artists on a tour; the pushback McLachlan got over this was her inspiration to start the first Lilith Fair. It’s a shame that “Harbinger” gets so little attention; it’s a fantastic album. The track “I Am So Ordinary” will break your heart.

Paula Cole met her husband on that tour. I don’t remember his name but he’s the guy next to her wearing the red beret . They later divorced

Of all artists, Peter is one who actually deserves a knighthood, for his contribution to music over the decades if nothing more.

Yes, Peter always worked with top notch musicians. Tony is part of the live lineup since, forever. To quote wikipedia: "Tony Levin has performed on every Gabriel studio album and every live tour except for Scratch My Back (2010), the soundtracks Passion (1989) and Long Walk Home (2002), and the New Blood Tour." So he's essentially a fix part of the "band" behind Peter's solo career.

@@Bunny99s I saw the Roxy show in Hollywood on Peter's first tour and, of course, Tony was there, along with Robert Fripp (as Dusty Rhodes), Larry Fast and other fabulous musicians. It opened with a slow version of "Here Comes The Flood" where Fripp introduces himself with a screaming guitar lick unlike I ever heard before or after. It bled into "On The Air", which had not yet been released on the second album. I was fortunate, because it was broadcast on radio and I was able to get a bootleg album of it. I still listen to that opening medley in my rotation. What an incredible show of musical history!

Eaxctly. That's what the triggers the emotional reaction I have everytime I watch this.

Right! He has a hint of the sound of Tuvan throat singing in his voice.

I have always thought that!

He has harmonics in his tone. The distortion sounds like 2 tones blended perfectly. My daughter also has harmonics in her tone. It's pretty rare. Throat singing is done by tongue positions and manipulating the vocal folds.

Saw her a couple years ago. She still has the most incredible voice!

@@douglasramsey1200 saw her in Boston in the late 90’s . Blown away. And couple months later also saw Natalie Merchant. Also awesome. Didn’t know either singer but dating a girl at the time turned me on to both.

This is amazing and though it is a duo both artists shine and the video is as good as live performance for evaluation of singing technique

This song is great - in fact our /my wedding song!, but … a cover version by a Harrisburg artist named Jeffrey Gaines , but.. My fave song from this album is ‘don’t give up.. ‘ , there are so few poignant songs about suicide ( Jackson browns ‘ song for Adam’ and rem’s ‘everybody hurts’

Love Peter Gabriel dearly but his range is not incredible. Incredible vocal range would be Dimash or if that doesn't count then that guy who sang "She's Gone" (Steelheart). Gabriel's range is good but not incredible. Incredible would be at the 4 octave range. Gabriel would be less than 3. Falsetto doesn't count. Mixed voice does. Freddie Mercury comes to mind as a baritenor. PG is a baritone.

Same here The absolute beauty of the song, including the world influences, it's a wonderful song. There are newer versions that are also beautiful, with other world singers.

Those are my exact sentiments. Can't believed I missed that tour. Did the next best thing and got the Secret World Tour DVD.

Other than Red Rocks, the Greek is my favorite venue. A summer night's concert at the Greek is truly the best of L.A.

"Biko" on his tours while South Africa apartheid was still going, was not an experience you ever forgot.

Subtle weight he carries with life

I wouldn't be surprised if he did, in fact, re-record some of his own vocals for the concert film. He's acknowledged doing that in the past; in the liner notes for his first live solo album (I think is where I saw it) he mentions that he'd done that, so what you were hearing on the album was a combination of the live performance with occasional places where he'd "fixed" the vocal. He made a joke about it, saying something like, "the technical term for this is 'cheating'". He seemed fine with it then, so I assume he'd be fine with it now. And having watched the Secret World video a ridiculous number of times, I get a sense in a number of places (including on this song) that that might be happening.

@@JohnCallender Yep! The consistency of his vocal sound with different microphones in the same performance means... overdubs. Also you never hear him breathe when he's dancing, running, riding the bike, etc. The extraneous sounds are edited out.
