In 2006 i travelled from Oslo to Cambridge UK to hear them perform the whole of the Lamb Lies Down album. I had very high expectations, and they exceeded them by far! I’ve seen them two times since them. They are highly recommended! A timecapsule back to the seventies!

The best cover band of Genesis. Every member of Genesis have validated them. Each one has attended their show, Peter bringing his girls to show them what's it was like when Dad was 24 years old playing with Genesis. Even Phil played with them on a encore of Musical box in Geneva I think (2005 ?), and Steve too I think shared the scene with them on Firth of fifth one time. Seen them more than 10 times, always stunning! Their Lamb show was the best way to fully realize the concept of the album and lots of song really came to life in concert context.

I did not know that about Phil playing on "Musical Box" ( would have loved to have seen that!), and Gabriel bringing his kids to see the show! That's so nice! Must have been uncanny for them to experience!

One of my favourite Genesis tracks of all time and a great version from Musical Box. At the end of 2021 I was fortunate enough to see Steve Hackett and his band live on his Genesis Revisited tour where they covered the whole of the Seconds Out album, including the amazing Firth of Fifth. Would be great for you guys to check it out, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. And hey Lex, you can still get to see this track performed live …

Make no mistake, this is NO "cover" band. I spoke about them on this channel a long time ago. This band originates from Montreal PQ, Canada and their mission statement is to recreate the original Genesis concerts from the Foxtrot tour all the way to The Lamb Lies Down note for note and scene for scene as accurately as possible. The band has a connection to Genesis who's provided them stage drops and schetches as well as video footage to study and you'll not get a better opportunity to experience Genesis the way it was back in the 70's. They've been attended by most of the original band members and I'm aware Hacket and Collins both sat in on a song or two over the years and Peter attended with his family. I've seen them do all three concerts and couldn't recommend it more. Great band and great reaction.

While you're exploring the musical box check out some of their earlier shows from as far back as the 1990s. They are one of the only tribute bands that are actually authorized by the group themselves. Peter Gabriel went to see them and took his kids and told them this is what Daddy used to do

Cool. I’ve seen The Musical Box perform four or five times, the last time around the same tour as this recording. They do an excellent job of recreating the Gabriel-era stuff. I would highly recommend seeing them if you can.

I am indeed blessed to have seen Genesis, TMB and the Steve Hackett Band perform this song about a dozen times live since 1974. The recent Genesis Last Domino tour featured just a few bars of it in a medley, but I count it. To see it on a screen brings it all back. Among my top 5 songs of all time. It's a classic I'll never tire of hearing.

If you've actually seen a live Genesis show from the mid 70s (as I have), you know what the one major difference between them is . . . the real Genesis had far more technical problems with their live shows! Always forgiven and forgotten of course, but EVERY show had a glitch somewhere.

If you like this era of Genesis, Musical Box is a MUST see concert. They are more then a cover band, they recreate the actual shows from particular albums / tours. I have ssem them do Selling England and Foxtrot and it was as close to seeing Genesis during the particular timeframe as you are going to get. They are going to tour Lamb Lies Down this year and I cannot wait to see that!

Awesome 👍 my daughter got me tickets to see The Musical Box at the Pabst theater in Milwaukee a few years ago. Highly recommend them. If you go see them make sure of your seating as they play smaller venues and sometimes if you are not in kind of a center vantage point you may not be able to see the entire band. Great!👏👏

I believe that Genesis was so impressed with The Musical Box that Peter Gabriel took his kids to see at least one performance and Phil Collins had played with them. Must have been a thrill (for these guys). Besides the Gabriel 'look', I love the drummer's overalls. LOL Wish this sound quality was better. But as good as these guys are, it only makes me even more impressed with Genesis! To think a bunch of 20 yr. old kids composed this, put it and so many other pieces together and performed to such a high level LIVE, is mind boggling. When ever I hear others doing the Genesis tunes, the more I respect Phil Collins.

I've seen The Musical Box many times for years now and always Amazing !! Just like Genesis played from 1972' - 77', They do the Tours as they where Foxtrot, SEP, The Lamb etc. They have met Tony Banks yrs ago and seen all the master Tapes and all the Gen guys told them about their tours and how the stage was etc, MB play all the gear as it was in those tours with classic instruments and effect and custom made ones by Rickenbacker etc !! A must see !!! : D

As someone else already mentioned, Steve Hackett’s live shows are the best ways to experience classic Genesis. He also doesn’t object to shared videos (or doesn’t seem to), so there are many of his live performances available online. You really owe it to yourselves to dive into his catalog - 25+ albums of original work, some missteps here and there but some masterpieces as well. The albums I would suggest are Wild Orchids, Spectral Mornings, Voyage of the Acolyte, Metamorpheus (classical album) and Beyond the Shrouded Horizon. Those are all exceptionally strong albums front to back. Here’s a great one to start with - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZZPleiedgvo.html

The band Genesis actually gave the original slides that were used for the "The Lamb" tour to The Musical Box. They make at least 3 different tours : Foxtrot/Selling, The Black Show and The Lamb Tour. I've seen all three and they are a must see for fans of the "old" Genesis.

These lads are from my hometown of Montreal, the first city in North America where Genesis and other Progressive bands could play in front of 16 000+ people at a time, while other cities could support only 1000 or 2000 seat theatres. Montreal is also home to Leonard Cohen, Cory Hart, and William Shatner, among many others.

I recommend watching Antoine Baril's "One Man Genesis" which is available on RU-vid. Antoine is a very gifted multi instrumentalist and plays all of the instruments. This is then edited into a video performance which has to be seen to be believed. His attention to detail is extremely impressive. He has also done "One Man Rush" and "One Man Yes" videos. Incidentally Antoine has previously played drums for "The Musical Box" but could just as easily have played any of the instruments. Please watch it for your own entertainment, you will not be disappointed.

Video doesn’t even come close to what it’s like to actually see this band live. The sound is incredible. Here’s how good they are: on this particular 2017 tour they would play back to back nights - first night playing the white show with the white background you see on this video where they would recreate the studio recording exactly. Then the next night they would play the Black Show which is the same setlist but everything on stage is black, something Genesis did on the final leg of their Selling England tour in 1974. For this show TMB recreated live versions of the songs, with “Phil” getting super creative on the drums, no grand piano sound (they didn’t have that back in 1974 for live shows) and just overall more relaxed performance, but still exactly like Genesis did it. This band is what turned me into a huge fan of Genesis. Nothing like seeing this stuff live.

2017 sounds about right. I saw them recreate the, " Selling England by the Pound " tour in Los Angeles. They went to all lengths to make you feel like you were actually seeing Genesis in the 70's. It was like a play down to Peter Gabriel's patter between songs. I read that they were given access to the master recording, so the could perfect certain sounds. Apart from having the actually stage sets, they also had the actual slide show. The encore was, " Supper's Ready ", and, " Watchers of the Skys".

I saw their Lamb Lies Down on Broadway live performance back in 2013. For me, this is the show I missed back in 1974, during Peter's farewell tour. For the Musical Box group, they used the very same photographic slide show used in Genesis' original tour! Everything perfectly matched the 1974 tour, and it was a wonder to see the Slipperman costume! The guitarist for the band was very good, too - he had a square jaw and a thin beard, so I think he's the same guitarist as is in this video.

The Musical Box are a superb tribute band along with many other cover bands they all do a brilliant job. By the way Steve Hackett still does this on his tour to this day and it is always totally awesome. Genesis always included this on their tours, but chopped up in a medley with other old songs, but it still sounds great. The 2007 Genesis reunion tour was great they done 'In The Cage/Cinema Show/Duke's Travels/Afterglow' as the old medley was epic. Firth of Fifth was done in another old medley along with I Know What I Like on that 2007 tour.

Thanks for doing that! I hope you can see them do the Lamb next year. Get familiar with that album in the meantime. I know that wasn't the best sound quality recording, but it gives you the idea of how exact they replicate the shows which is what I wanted you to see. When I talk about Musical Box, I feel like it's an injustice to use the word cover band. I've seen plenty of good early Genesis cover bands, but Musical Box are more of a "tour recreator" and when they do the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway 40th anniversary tour I would call them "Rock Opera Revivalists!"

Currently he is touring Foxtrot at 50 ! I remember buying this in the 70s and getting lost in Suppers Ready and Get em out by Friday in particular. It is very cool that you would consider watching masterpieces recreated like this. I recommend a band called YYNOT they have excellent covers of RUSH. The vocals have swapped between two diverse but powerful singers. Rocky Kuner was the first girl and they recorded two albums with her and they are both worth a listen too. The newer young lady is Patty Pershayla (sp?) and I think they will do great things with her at the mic. They do, however, go through more drummers than Spinal Tap, so if your searching through youtube don't be confused by the abundance of different players with the two main guys Billy Alexander on guitar and most of the writing, and Bass man Tim Starace. Thanks. Have a great day and keep up the great work.

Genetics is a South American Genesis cover band you guys might want to check out sometime. I believe they're from Brazil. Steve Hackett has performed with them.

Check out the live version from Seconds Out 1977. The double drumming is insane. Genesis were a well oiled machine by this point.

Hackett's solo is mind-blowing. But Rutherford on the 12 string and bass pedals is awesome too. These guys are good .. But playing is one thing, creating it is another

Musical Box are an amazing tribute band, great reaction guys. Can I suggest very strongly that you check out Antoine Baril, a French/Canadian multi-talented musician. He is a drummer by trade and has actually played with Musical Box as a stand-in for their regular drummer. He also makes the most amazing instrumental tribute videos where he plays all of the instruments. "One Man Genesis" left me speechless the first time I watched it. As a bonus, he has also done "One Man Rush" and "One Man Yes" tributes. Check them out guys ... you won't be disappointed. Keep up the good work.

I saw the musical box do the Selling England tour in Brighton England (I was three when the real Genesis did it) But it was like stepping back in time and being in the RU-vid video.

Guys, this is a recreation of the original set. How could a 50 year old set still be in such new condition? Also, The Musical Box is a Tribute/Recreation band, not a cover band, and they are licensed by both Genesis and Peter Gabriel to exactly recreate these 50 year-old concerts.

Excellent, interesting choice. Shortlist progressive rock masterworks as these are, they still don't get quite enough love.

Try Chris Rea's "Road To Hell" I think you will be amazed. Has made over 25 albums in the UK, one the best guitarist still out there playing since the 70s.

1973 was the Selling England By The Pound tour guys. It wasn’t 1975 because I saw Genesis January 22,1975 and they were touring the complete The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. Speaking of that album The Musical Box does a perfect recreation of it with the same costume changes and movie screen backdrop just as Genesis did. It’s over 2 hours long and would make a fantastic patreon extended viewing. They are so good at bringing 1974/1975 Genesis to the fans that never saw what I saw. Here’s the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OlX4moDYEmA.html Oh! And if my correction seems rude or cold please don’t take it that way for it’s just me setting the record straight. Accuracy is paramount to me and it bugs me when you or others are given false information and you have no reason to question it because of your going into new music without preconceptions policy. I tell the truth and that’s all it is.

Guys: Here's a band I'd love to see you react to; 10cc. Huge here in the UK during the 70s, but I don't know about elsewhere in the World. Their biggest hit was "I'm Not In Love" in 1975

They indeed performed well, but the recording quality was poor, which is a shame (not their fault). Probably a great live show. XLNT tribute. 🍁

Of course, in 1973 Tony Banks didn't have a digital keyboard and sampler to produce authentic piano sounds and had to make do with a clavinet. Not that I'm knocking what these guys do, but to me if you want a truly authentic time machine experience nothing beats hearing how the band really sounded back in the day.

That’s why they did the Black Show. No digital piano, intro played on RMI, and all the live versions of Phil’s drumming and temple, etc. But, most fans didn’t “get it” and preferred this version.

Since you've now done this cover band I think you should just open things up to other cover bands, how about Kashmire the Led Zep cover band, you know they sound just like Led Zep and their drummer sounds just like John Bonham , WOW!. Oh and how about Australian Pink Floyd they too sound just like Pink Floyd and have the same sets! Who'd a thunk it! Looking forward to future cover bands to marvel at. Keep up the great work and keep loving each other!.
