Oh my word, this was like 20 years ago lol. I've always been chill (not a cheater 🤣), me and my friend had a few beers in us and my friend grabbed her guitar and started playing and singing this. So I listened to the real version. I just love Melissa Etheridge's voice. She's the same friend that got me into Ani Difranco 😁

I grew up listening to Melissa Etheridge. My Mama (may she rest in peace) was a HUGE fan of her songs/music and would play it on the boombox or in the car. We would jam out to it, singing along & failing mesirably to reach those high notes. So yeah, I've been a fan since I was knee high to a grasshopper. =^.^=

I just can't believe this is the first time you guys have heard this song!?! I'm black myself. Maybe because I grew up in nebraska? Idk. I grew up on these types of songs and you guys seem only 2-5 years older than me if that, so crazy to me that you haven't heard it. I have seen Melissa live twice now. First time I was in my early 20's and it was at a lesbian bar in Austin Tx called "Oil Can Harry's Tavern". The second time was at Texas Stadium where she was the opening act for The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" tour.
