"Not seen a drummer singing with a microphone in front of them like that" Debbie Peterson of The Bangles, 'Going Down To Liverpool' - Live: Letterman: 1984 or Talia Balzano from Spinning Jenny - see their cover of The Rolling Stones' 'Paint It Black' or, back in 1968, Karen Carpenter's drum solo for 'Dancin' In The Street'.
This was not an Instagram moment. This was not a shallow, performative act. This was real, genuine talent and genius. This was real, live music. If you guys want to drop the pretense and really discover the music, Queen has more than you could ask for. If Vanilla Ice is what you want, this is the wrong place to look for it.
Autotune was invented after Freddie's passing so other singers could get close to Freddie's talented voice. And none even got close. Freddie was that good.
It's a bit strange to call this repetitive. Considering it tells a story throughout. Only the chorus repeats. The chorus is extended at the end. But I really think of your thinking about the repetition of the chorus you aren't hearing the story in between. I mean most songs today are literally the same line repeated to music. But this is repetitive???
If you listen closely, the chorus is sung a little differently each time. Maybe the phrasing changes, the voice timbre changes, or maybe the volume changes. Variation on a theme, you might say.
The girl who said it was repetitive has probably never been to a concert where the musicians stretch out a song and let it go on and on to the delight of their audience. The concerts she goes to are probably lip synced and each number is timed… no just jamming having fun . these kids have no clue sadly what a true rock concert is.
@@colleentrygg7376 This is really sad, I am disappointed in these kids. The kids today want auto tune, yuck, Queen never needs it. Music with no talent just machines fixing it for them. Not everyone can like everything but it is hard to understand their reaction. I haven't seen an answer to any of the comments either.
Each one brought their talents to the show. Freddie is killing it on the piano. Brian May's guitar sings a reply to Freddie's singing abilities. Roger gets to show off not only what an amazing drummer he is but also his vocal skills. I especially love the pounding drum beat accompanied by John Deacon slapping that bass.
At 4.39 in your video exactly when you paused it. Brian’s guitar string broke and you see him going to the back of the stage. the band improvised and carried on 👏 legendary
The greatest rock band & the greatest frontman in rock history singing live with no auto tune…. just pure raw, but well polished, talent. That was pure magic that you just witnessed & it happened EVERY time they stepped on stage. 🖤🎶🖤
Have you ever heard the original 1975 Bohemian Rhapsody video…… if not, that would be a good place to start. Then on to the 1985 Live Aid Concert. Queen has almost 20 years of hit music ….from the early 1970’s until 1990 when lead singer, Freddie Mercury passed away. You will recognize many of their hits…. You just didn’t know it was Queen songs. Yes…Yes….more Queen please. Thank you.
Your comment relating to shows where they sing to a backing track. Queen always performed live, no backing track, no lip synching or auto-tune. Just the 4 of them.
If i remember, it was earlier in this tour when i saw them, late 80, during that section the entire stage went to black then exploded when that rock section hit kind of like in the video for it
If you want to see more of them switching between instruments I'd recommend "Save Me" from the same concert, where you'll see Brian (lead guitarist) starting out on piano before then switching back to guitar whilst Freddie picks up on the piano, all done so seamlessly it'll blow your mind. It's a great song, too!
You mentioned Vanilla Ice, Queen were not happy with Ice as he stole the rift of the Queen song ( Under Pressure) Ice used the rift in Ice Ice Baby,John Deacon the bass guitar from Queen and the band decided to sue Vanilla Ice, but Ice settled out of court for the the some of 4 million dollars, which in today’s value would be worth around 11 million dollars, great reaction thanks 🙏
@@christophersmith7041 Queen and David Bowie were granted song writing credits as part of the private settlement with Vanilla Ice for copyright infringements.
Phil Collins- Drummer and singer- mostly when he was with Genesis. Queen is so great- love watching you kids react to my genre of music- it's so fun watching the smile and amazement on your faces!!
If you look at about 4:56 you can see Freddie check on the guitarist who’s having a problem so Freddie improvises that “come on!” section with the crowd until the guitarist is ready and then he continues the song.
@@ZoneHorror.Pay attention to where Freddie is looking. @ 4:36 - Brian stops playing. @ 4:55 - Freddie watches Brian going to the back of the stage to fix the issue. You can see him in the background. John & Roger have been signaled to stretch the run for a bit. @ 5:24 - Freddie glances back to check Brian's progress, keeping the audience engaged in the chant. @ 5:28 - Brian has fixed the issue and returns to the front to continue the performance. Those guys were *_totally_* in sync that night. True professionals.
I can't imagine if there was no RU-vid, then you would only be trapped in the knowledge that you currently have, you would never know how many great things musicians had decades ago.😂😅
So glad you are listening. 58 years old dude here it was difficult time to grow up in a lot of ways, but the music was astounding. It helped me so much see the balance in life.
Freddie always reminded me of thunder on the microphone...he possessed an overly abundance of both charisma and control... I've never heard any other sound as powerful as his...R.I.P. Freddie 🙏
Brian May and his father home made his guitar and called it The Red Special The neck of the guitar is crafted from a mahogany mantelpiece supported by a steel rod. While the body is made of an old, oak table and blockboard. Not many people can say the became famous from living room furniture, but that’s not even the start of the unique factors that set this instrument apart from the crowd. Both the tremolo and the pickup switching systems are designed to function better than any guitars on the market at that time. Brian May is also a Doctor in Astro- physics.
Keep going down the queen rabbit hole there catalog is huge. There live performances are all incredible. R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU WE HEAR YOU SINGING FROM HEAVEN
If you don't understand music don't try to comment on people and groups who invented the foundations to what you guys call music today. Queen is one of the most important bands in history of music
Drummer's name is Roger Taylor. Roger and guitarist, Brian May aka Dr. Brian May PhD are only original members of Queen still touring today. John Deacon, bassist retired from touring but have a say of the operation of Queen. Fact is that all 4 original members of Queen created a document stating all of them has an equal interest of Queen. John retired little after Freddie's death in 1991 except with a few reunions. Queen had other lead vocalists after Freddie such as Paul Rodgers of Bad Company and Adam Lambert, who is currently with the band. John Deacon was threatening to sue Roger & Brian because they were using Queen as band name with Adam Lambert. They settled out of court with band name is edited to Queen+Adam Lambert. Original name, Queen is untouched. Because John Deacon felt that they were disrespectful to Freddie's legacy. Back to Brian being a doctor, he went back to college to complete his thesis in Astrophysics. Brian gotten doctorate in Astrophysics. Actually, all of them were going to school back in day prior making a big in music. Roger was studying Dentistry. John studied Electronic/Electrical Engineering. Brian in Astrophysics. Freddie studied Graphic Arts.
Everything I have read and heard from Brian, John was ok with everything they did. He was asked to come back but he declined and disappeared from music all together, which is extremely sad. Freddie's death had such a huge impact on all of the band and ,the world for that matter, it took years for Brian and Roger to start to play again. John always got the short end of the stick and I think his leaving is very telling as to how he was treated. I hate that Roger especially has said some things that were not very flattering. Roger felt John was very fragile and Didn't want to continue without Freddie, which is true but Roger has said many harsh things about John in his interviews. Brian has been very diplomatic about his reaction to John leaving but the sentiment is very clear. I was very upset they just sold their catalog for 1.2 Billion. I think the money was just to much to turn down. No one knows what really happened, I hope John will tell us someday. One cool foot note, Brian has also been knighted by King Charles this year! It took forever for him to be Knighted but all that matters is that he was knighted.
Brian May's guitar was home made by himself and his father. The neck of the guitar is crafted from a mahogany mantelpiece supported by a steel rod. While the body is made of an old, oak table and blockboard. Not many people can say they became famous from living room furniture, but that’s not even the start of the unique factors that set this instrument apart from the crowd. Both the tremolo and the pickup switching systems are designed to function better than any guitars on the market at that time. What is not generally known is that Brian May is a doctor of astro-physics.
Drummers who sing? Check out Karen Carpenter of the Carpenters ("Rainy Days and Mondays" and her drum Solo on their TV Special), Don Henley of The Eagles ("Hotel California") Phil Collins of Genesis (and solo work - "In the Air Tonight" - Live is a must).
Hello, New Years Eve channel hosts. First time viewing your channel. I think. 😊 Always nice to witness the younger generations listen to the music I grew up with. It can be frustrating sometimes, but kids will be kids. 😅 Keep up the good work, and keep on r'actin.
One problem with groups like Queen is that everyone knows who Freddie Mercury is, but hardly anyone even knows the names of the rest of this insane good teams he have, Brian May, Roger Meddows-Taylor, John Deacon. Without them Queen would be like buy a strawberry cake and only got a strawberry (Freddie) and no cake... This goes for other groups too, like Dire Straits.
I don't think they had the technology way back then to record music and then sing over top of it... 🤣 If any bands way back then (before we had the technology to record stuff) tried to pull the crap they do today at concerts they'd be booed off stage and everyone would be asking for a refund!
They had the technology to perform to backing tracks back then, but they didn't because the artists thought of it as cheating, and the fans wouldn't have paid to see them do that. If you went to a live concert, you expected the band to actually play, and probably add something to the songs that wasn't in the studio versions so that what you heard was unique to that concert. Nowadays it seems that people are content to basically hear the tracks they know from the radio or Spotify, and just watch a dance show instead.
Then you should see Phil Collins (singing and drumming) at the same time, for example: In the air tonight and one great live drumming Home by the sea 2 (concert from Rome 2007).
First time I've ever seen a person watch this and show no emotion and have something negative to say. That would be the girl on the left. WOW, what does she like. Kids these days. Check out Live Aid if you haven't already, she may even be blown away.
Footnote: every single one of them has a university degree. One has a PhD degree if I’m not mistaken. Every single one of them are special. Rest in power Freddie Mercury.
The verses are certainly not repetitive, and the chorus is supposed to be repetitive. And when you are listening to the best singer ever, repetition is something to be savored... like sex, another repetitive activity.
Check out the version of this song that George Michael did with the surviving members of Queen at the Concert For Freddie. AMAZING! The one thing I hate when it comes to that version is I find myself saying that George Michael may have done a better job than Freddie Mercury. The high note for “SOME-BO-DEE TOOOOOO…..” before Wembley does the “love” portion gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Christ almighty that lady on the right is absolutely beautiful ! 😍 I was meant to be watching Freddie but my eyes just keep drifting off to the right. 😄👀
i feel so sorry for Everyone born after the year 2000 you have never heard a good Talented band.... Queen are one of the best EVER... i challenge you to name ANY band of lead singer that can sound this good live with no computer enhancements of any kind....
9:55 - 'they probably didn't have the technology to do that here yet'.....er what? People walked on the moon in 1969, and you don't think they had the ability to sing over a backing track in 1981? People have been performing over recorded music since the 1920s! And if you mean in modern hi-fi quality, then that's from the 1940s.
Just FYI - Phil Collins (Genesis and solo), Don Henley (Eagles, solo), Karen Carpenter, Mickey Dolenz (Monkees), were good drummers and also lead singers.
