Hi Johann thanks for your interest and keen eye to detail, now and again i will get a flinch and this usually happens when a target suddenly alters direction either through strong winds (especially when clay shooting) or when i change my mind on the target in this case a fast flying grouse "still got him tho"

farmers will not need tips, they will have shot plenty of pigeon in the past, treat them like pigeon as if they are going to try and escape, on grouse be very alert and ready, soon as you see one get that gun mounted and moving if you dither he'll be gone, do not worry over neighbors birds get them shot there is no poaching in grouse shooting it is all fair game. good luck stay safe and enjoy

I think there has been fault all round here Tom, shooting especially grouse shooting has impacted on birds of prey heavily in the past, this was probably the old style Victorian gamekeeping (tooth and claw eradicate all) carrying on into these modern times, certainly the shooting world should have learned to work with a society that demands to see all nature living together in a more manageable sense, this is happening now and reaping benefits as all hen harrier numbers are well up from previous years, but obviously this sympathetic tone as took far too long to indoctrinate into the gamekeeping world and for me should have been implemented some 50 years ago, but its great to see the organisations teaching tolerance and learning the modern keeper to work with the avian predators “like never before” and it’s working. @@DaveCarrieShooting Thanks for your reply. Attitudes have certainly improved in the past hundred years or so, I fully agree, plus your comment suggest that you are 100% on side. However, there still seems to be a minority of gamekeepers who can have a large effect on certain populations - particularly Hen Harriers but there have also been dozens of Golden and White-Tailed Eagles killed amongst others. Perhaps more pressure from within the shooting industry would help to convince these few to change their ways? I'm sure you are very aware of the negative press the industry has been getting lately - if anyone is going to get Grouse shooting banned it will be those who are flouting wildlife laws, which would be a shame for the compliant gamekeepers. I don't consume animal products myself, but I try to see the positives in certain industries that are less harmful than others. If the Grouse industry didn't cause any environmental damage or persecute raptors I would be it's biggest supporter despite my beliefs - wild animals > factory farming any day of the week. Tom Coe Thanks for your brilliant outlook on the industry and the respect for the flora and fauna, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you say and it is nice to have such a balanced conversation between two people of perhaps different backgrounds, but if you really look into both the souls of anti and pro- the only difference would be the killing of something!! Take that element out of the frame and they become quite the same two persons!! Conservationists and country folk, the only impasse is the harvest of one creature at the cost of another, if everyone could come to some sort of respectful agreement and agree that in today’s world that it would be difficult to have a countryside as manicured and diverse as ours without the shooting sports and our many diverse pastimes. Langholm is a prime example of sympathetic interference that failed. Thank you for your input Tom!! It is worthy of a mention in anybody’s book 👏👏👏

Yes it is fun but that includes all that goes with it !! enjoyable killing is a trait that most of so called humanity is born with - them that scoff at reality are always surprised at what a man can do whilst smiling -most of them that shoot are law abiding folk whilst nearly all killers of fellow man (especially mass murders) were either cat lovers or dog lovers- hitler loved his Alsatian but slaughtered millions of mankind - l love my shooting but I also love conserving our own natural bird/animal species that would disappear quite quickly if not for the shooting man

the only way we will return to mainstream TV is through someone funding a series and then trying to sell it to sky or other mainstream but even then it would have to on a purely educational basis with very little shooting, the quickest way is to do something bad with a gun and it is instant coverage, it is the way of the world i am afraid - bad news conquers all

I think it's a good look for Dave. He seems a bit slimmer as well. Must be that healthy country livin'.

Complete rubbish - sheep grazing is managed on moorland to rotationally graze specific areas, excessive grazing is exactly what moorland management aims to prevent as this is massively detrimental to the heather structure and therefore the biodiversity of the moor. The 'natural' state of a moorland is a myth, they have been managed by man since the beginning of man and without the management would return to trees like you mentioned - large tracts of forestry have a much lower biodiversity index than these managed moors, I know which environment I'd rather see...

@@mattsmith6994I too enjoy the moorland and walk there regularly with my friends in the Vegan Ramblers but I would far rather see them as forests occupied by deer and perhaps even wild lynx. It’s a mystery to me why anyone would want to shoot birds for fun. You might like to read Mark Avery’s book, Inglorious which explains the harm done by driven grouse shooting.

@@Zeroclimber I have to disagree here John, forestry occupied by wild lynx is a pipe dream I'm afraid introducing an apex predator with no natural control is asking for trouble... as for forest occupied by deer compared to managed moorland occupied by hundreds of species of birds, mammals, insects and vital flora and fauna this is a no brainer... heather moorland is the U.K.s rainforest and without careful management we will lose it - whilst you may fail to see why people shoot birds this is a bi-product of moorland management, an off-shoot of a much bigger picture, if people could stop using an emotional response to a conservation and management issue we would all sing off the same hymn sheet. I have read Mr Avery's book, it is articulately written and cleverly worded but hangs strongly on here-say, assumption and lacks scientific evidence and fact... it is a book for anti-shooters written by an anti-shooter
