I love these carver yachts with the those aft cabins with easy access to the back we’re the dingy is at plus two ways to get in the master state room.very nice boat!
I had a 1991 42 Carver and loved it. I was the 3rd owner. The first keep it on lake Michigan and the 2nd owner bought it and shipped it to lake Cda in North Idaho where I bought it a few years later. I live in Spokane Wa which is just about 28 miles from Cda in North Idaho. Been looking for a 57 Carver Pilot House for the Puget Sound.
A very eventful trip with an extra tag along. Just another experience on the loop. Glad things are progressing as expected and out of the rivers. Great video and Enjoy.

Mary’s home town is Holland, MI. A popular stop on Lake MIchigan for boaters including Great Loopers. Mary’s childhood home is on Washington St and has a historical marker. It was a Sears house built by her Paternal Grandmother, Groenewoud, in the 20’s. Mary still has a number of relatives and friends there. The name of the Lighthouse is Big Red but it’s really not very big...
Hi Dwight, While we did not make it to Holland, we did get close! Hope all is well with you and Mary! Sam Thanks for your comment. Original REPLY lost when site went down. This is a RE-REPLY. Content may be slightly different than Original REPLY.

I do believe a Carver is hard to beat..Such a quality made yacht...Love the interior on this and the pilot house is awesome..I love that it is hard enclosed to allow A/C which is needed down here in Fl where I live!! I have to admit I think the freestanding table and chairs made for a more open design but the built in dinette does give much more storage..I have had many RV's and they all had the built in dinette..although the newest trend is to have free standing!! haha Love the L-shaped sofa as well..such nice, light colors!! You guys have very soothing voices...let her talk more why don't ya!!! You kept talking over her!! She needs to slap you really...One day she will...mark my words!!
You should! We love the boat and had a lot of interest and questions about it. So, we have a second video planned to come out in a week or two that goes through the boat in much more detail and covers the upgrades we made on her since that video.
Just started following, can’t wait to see more. Thanks for sharing the tour. Maybe think about zooming out more next time so we can see more then just what’s right in front of you 😃. I struggle with that all the time too. Thanks again

Very nice layout of the boat. Looks to be comfortable and easy to get access to all parts. The dingy seem to be in an easy place to access, deploy and retrieve as well. For a fifty footer she seem to be quite big for four passengers.
Hi. It is very comfortable and we liked it enough to keep her and do a second loop. We had a lot of requests for more info on the boat, So will be doing updated videos on it. 😉
So great you are planning the loop. Make sure you sign up for our twice monthly newsletter via our website so you get the inside scoop and tips! 😊 WhatYachtToDo.com
Hi Jeff, About 1.1 miles to a gallon of diesel. You can now look at out 1K, 2K and 3K mile updates, particularly the 3K update has more details and a chart. Thanks for your comment. Original REPLY lost when site went down. This is a RE-REPLY. Content may be slightly different than Original REPLY.
@@WhatYachtToDo It was wonderful. Your boat is beautiful. It was great to spend time with you and Sam. I'm so glad I got to take a little trip on the water with you, even with all the traffic and a bit of wind. Special time indeed!!
After having your Carver this long, what is your overall impression of their quality? I’m considering getting a early 2000’s Carver (smaller model). Thanks
My question is How many people know where Tool, Texas is? Hint: it is just south of Seven Points (where I live) and across the lake from Gun Barrel City, where "We shoot straight with you"!! Actually it was named for the rod from Mabank to Gun Barrel which was called Gun Barrel Lane because it was straight as a Gun Barrel.
We have had our lake house in Tool for 10 years and have always enjoyed living close to Gun Barrel City. Never knew what it meant though. We have probably seen you at El Jacalitos! Thanks for the info!
@@WhatYachtToDo LOL!! Been to El Jacalitos a few times. And try to catch the airshow every year, then cruise the lake watching fireworks. One of the benefits of a 2555 widebody Bayliner. Born and raised in this area way before we had a lake here. A lot has changed in the last 66 years. I follow some of the loop with dreams of making at least some of it when I came across your site. Was a shock to see Tool on the aft of your boat. I follow another couple that are out of Dallas but they are ocean cruisers in the Pacific. Have safe travels and keep the updates coming. We will live our dreams through you.
@@WhatYachtToDo I won't but for now grandsons are in motorcross. Finished 1st and 2nd for their age bracket in the Texas Full Moon series and 18th and 20th in the State AMA championship. Thanks for having me and will talk to you later. Have a very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years.
You are quite welcome. Yes, we can do the entire loop and did it twice on this boat. Here is a blog post on air draft. www.whatyachttodo.com/how-high-can-my-boat-be-for-the-great-loop/ Also, sign up for our newsletter where we give the inside Scoop on the Loop! Sam and Rev 😎
I think it is a little more expensive, but not by much. Thanks for your comment. Original REPLY lost when site went down. This is a RE-REPLY. Content may be slightly different than Original REPLY.
Can you please tell me more about the special Toilet Paper? I have been using regular bio TP like some kinda sucker. Just kidding , Love the boat beautiful ! Also thanks for your Military service! I wonder what type of TP they use??????
Wondering about your Hailing Port? Tool, TX. I lived there on Cedar Creek Lake in Tool for 21 years and built the marina which has since changed names. Just happen to see your RU-vid channel. I'm in Va Beach so took a look at your ICW adventure in Norfolk.
We had a lake house in Tool, TX on Cedar Creek Lake for 10 years. Recently sold. It was near Lone Star Marina which was Don's Port for many years before that. Thanks for watching!
@@WhatYachtToDo I built Don's Port and sold and left in 97'. Enjoyed the lake and still have many friends there. Have a great cruise and watch these Hurricanes brewing.
I'd like to know more about the hard top you added to the fly bridge. We're considering the Loop after retirement, and the Carver boats are very appealing, but without an interior helm we wouldn't be able to move in rainy weather.
Hi Robin. The hardtop was factory installed. It is a great place to pilot the boat from in all weather. You will see some 500s and 504s with soft tops.
@@WhatYachtToDo Yes good call on shipping it, alleviates what the wife and I call the "curse factor" Best of luck on the sale, we just may be in the market and will keep an eye out for it...Aim High!
Love the boat /yacht. I'm actually in the market for something along these lines. I must say, I appreciated the before rather than the after personally. But, I'm looking to liveaboard and that's probably why I feel this way. Anyway, I hope you are enjoying your boat. 👍
Love the layout and space of the 504, just not the salon seating facing the dinette, an awkward design that has stopped me from upgrading to this model. Everything else, A+
Thanks for the tour, I am in the midst of be coming an Yachtie, and have been looking and looking for the right boat. Is there were any advice that you would give a person like me, what would it be?
The best overall advice is to get one that is going to fit your cruising style. If you are going to do the loop you should probably do some research on that and how you will tackle it. What are your plans? Sam
Yes, moved into that full time until we started the loop. Now back once in a while for short visits! Thanks for your comment. Original REPLY lost when site went down. This is a RE-REPLY. Content may be slightly different than Original REPLY.
I can get it down to 17" 4" - we will have an update on our boat tour coming in the next few months. It is not a stand up engine room, but plenty of room down a center aisle for access.
If you could do it over again would you choose that same boat? Because the wife and I watch every episode of yours and by the way you guys make it look, we think your boat is perfect
www.captainjohn.org/GL-3-Scoop.html BOAT HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS: 1. 19-feet 6-inches - For every Looper regardless of route, in order to cruise the entire Great Loop, the absolute maximum overhead clearance that limits the height of your boat above the water is 19’ 6”. While this bridge is officially charted at 19.7-feet at MLW, to cruise the Great Loop your vessel MUST be able to cruise under this (normally) 19’ 6” fixed bridge. This means that your vessel’s super-structure; all that part of your boat left over after you take down your mast, antennas, Bimini top, radar arch, etc., must be able to cruise under this 19.6’ fixed bridge. While there are many other lower bridges, this is the lowest fixed bridge every Looper must go under. In other words, all routes lead here and there is no alternative waterway route around this bridge. This bridge is located at Mile 300.6 on the Chicago Sanitary Ship Canal and it is our only waterway link from the Great Lakes to the Illinois, Mississippi and Inland rivers. If you can’t clear this bridge, your Great Loop becomes a Great U-turn. Assuming you can clear 19’ 6” you are good to go anywhere on the Great Loop’s most popular routes with only two (2) exceptions. 2. 17-feet 0 inches - If you can clear 17’, you can cruise through downtown Chicago. 3. 15-feet 6-inches - In order to cruise the full-length (western half) of the Erie Canal, you must be able to clear a 15’ 6” fixed bridge. If you wish to remain strictly on the “American Side” of this voyage - or if you simply desire to cruise the full-length of the Erie Canal from the Hudson River to Buffalo, NY and into Lake Erie - you must have a vertical clearance of 15’ 6”. This will be also be the route to take if you do not have a Passport, or do not wish to cruise Canada. There are two 15’ 6” fixed bridges on the Erie Canal just beyond the Three-Rivers Junction to the Oswego Canal. The Oswego Canal has a 21’ vertical clearance and this is your route to Lake Ontario and on to Canada.
We can get down to 17' 2" that is the top of the Garmin Radar. Yes, see below for restrictions. Thanks for your comment. Original REPLY lost when site went down. This is a RE-REPLY. Content may be slightly different than Original REPLY.
About 19.5 on the bridge on the Cal-Sag route. About 17.5 on the Downtown Chicago Route. Thanks for your comment. Original REPLY lost when site went down. This is a RE-REPLY. Content may be slightly different than Original REPLY.
