Had all of our hay cutters on tractors and took the opportunity to give a quick run down and look-see of all of them. Video shows it all...

Some of the best looking hay bales I've seen had hay cut with a haybine

Krone is a nice mower. Nice to see all your equipment,

You said a lot of what I think of each of the equipment. I couldn't have said it better myself. I used each of those types of cutters for years and by far the discbine will run twice as fast as the mower and much faster than the haybine conditioner. My son has the rollers not the impellers on his discbine, one rubber and one steel, does a great job. Great review, thanks for sharing have a great Friday.

Thanks. I may add that a drum mower also does an exceptional job cutting. However, downside is the cut grass/alfalfa still needs to be crimped.

Thanks for the tour of your mowing arsenal. I'm using a Massey Ferguson 725 Haybine, so I know what you mean about them plugging. I had that problem quite a bit this summer as my timothy was unusually tall and thick. That Krone looks like it would definitely get the job done. and I understand what you mean about the horse hay customers. They are VERY picky. I had one lady about 10 years ago who came for 60 bales of hay. The bounced every single one off the floor before loading it. I stand behind my hay and would not sell moldy bales. I replace any hay that is bad. As a result, I nicely mentioned that I wasn't interested in having her come back for any more hay.

@markholtdorf56 Well, when it comes to hay, they generally demand quality.

Humble- I have a JD 920 MoCo (mower conditioner) similar to your Krone. My experience has been the same- they are very tough, reliable, won’t plug, and you can basically go as fast as your field will allow. I have impellers for mixed grass/alfalfa, and haven’t really noticed any shatter issues. Once you get a Discbine, it’s tough using anything else…

perfect video for the info I was looking for. We are one step behind you. When I was a kid, my dad had a sickle bar mower and a separate crusher. We then graduated up to a haybine and have been using it ever since. But, we never had experience with a discbine. I was wondering if they would be faster. what I like about yours is our haybine is so wide, I can't get it into places on my adjoining farm. the discbine looks like it would be narrow enough to transport into some tight spaces. we have a 10 ft haybine but even narrowed up, it still sticks out quite a ways past the right hand side of the tractor whereas your discbine looks like you can center it and it wouldn't be any wider than a 10ft brushhog that I can transport anywhere on my farm.

Some redundancy can be good. Wish I'd had a spare mower when my discbine was laid up for a month back in '21.

Agree and costs little or nothing to keep them around.

Thanks for showing the different hay cutting machines. Why would the tine impellers not be satisfactory when cutting legumes?
@HumbleHaymakers
@HumbleHaymakers Год назад
Some feel the impellers can rip the leaves off the stem - though most all makes, including my Krone, can reduce the impeller rpms to lessen that potential problem.

Nice to have some options! You may want to change the word "weapons" in your title. RU-vid may not promote the video because that's in there.

Ha ha - given RU-vid’s record of not recommend my videos, that word might help…😎. Thx for watching…👍

If you have a discbine, why use the sickle bar or haybine? My experience is that a discbine can do everything and more. Requires a bigger tractor, but if you have it, that’s all you need. I have flat fields and run at 11mph with a discbine!

A discbine won’t fit in all our fields. Some fields have rocks and a sickle or haybine allow other lower hp tractors to be used. 7mph is as fast as you can go in our mountain fields.

I have a 5209 New Idea disc bine. Ive tried it a few times and I can go as fast as 22 miles per hour..as long as the blades are sharp.......a heavy crop makes no difference. It does a great job ! Problem is.....the length of the field. Always nearly coming to a stop to turn. At 0:46 me cutting hay at 22 miles per hour.....with a 90 horse tractor. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5O6dI-TEB3c.html
