I mean, it really just does depend on where you’re at/ what type of school like I went to a private middle school and phones we’re not even allowed in the classroom. but now I went to a public high school and they’re a lot more carefree. I mean they try to put rules, but they always fail.
My school tried banning them, but there’s just not that much enriching in the area, so better to just let us have phones sometimes (in the hallway, at lunch, and during before/after school breaks. Not during classes)
It depends on the school bc my middle school didn’t allow phones but my high school does (the teachers say they don’t even though they don’t do anything to stop them from being on their phones
In Florida they made a law where you can’t have your phone out during class time, so whenever someone has their phone out you know there’s a kid that’s gonna shout “[name] is breaking the law with their cellular device!” As a joke. But then teachers actually get upset that a kid has their phone out and lectures them about how they’re breaking the law 💀
Same in Nigeria, our school system is very similar but there are those top .1% schools only the rich can afford, that'd be the equivalent of whatever school she's at
My school in Germany doesn’t have a “phone zone”, it’s just no phones anywhere Edit: Omg never seen this many likes, tysm (2.2k) Edit 2: Whoever wrote the second comment, stop stealing my spot fr… also (2.9k) tysm Edit 3: WE HAVE BEEN PASSED IN LIKES, REEEE (3.2k tho)
In India we have like really strict school and hostals, absolutely no electronic devices and yeah only analog watches and in hostals (many allow phone but not all) they are only allowed those keyboard phones? on which you can only call or text for 2/3 days a week (useally different days for boys and girls)
Because in India people are mostly poor. Some Parents can't buy their child a personal phone and the child will get jealous of others and demand one for themselves 😂
@@Rimuru_Tempest189it is not like that, even the UNESCO recommends schools to not allow phonees in school. And most Indians afford decent smartphones and even good 5G internet
In my school we are simply trusted to use our phones respectfully by putting them away while class is being taught, we are allowed to use them as long as we are respectful
@@veraaddoyobo8482 technically USA but ignore that cause it’s Hawai’i. The only reason it works is because of the culture. It’s a very unique school where we only attend twice a week
That’s basically how my public school experience was in the US, though this was also ~2012 to 2015 when phones were somewhat less ubiquitous. Phones were meant to be left in lockers; some students did carry them, but if it was a disturbance (like it went off during class) or you got caught using it, it would typically get taken away (though some teachers were more lenient). However, it was still useful to have the phones /available/ for emergency purposes such as contacting parents or navigating the way home from school.
@@Nedits1381 That makes sense, although I think kids walking home is also common in some European countries, as well as Japan. In America it really depends on the area I think. In my area, it’s only possible for a limited number of people to walk or bike home, but a lot of parents don’t allow their kids to, or it’s simply not logistically possible due to how far away kids live. But in my area the main safety concerns for walking is just cars and vehicles, along with lack of sidewalks/pedestrian infrastructure, and excessive heat like 80% of the year lol.
In Yemen, you can't bring phone, but in Saudi Arabia which i live in, it's also banned, but if you were lucky you can sneak it without anyone knowing ☠️.
in ghana , most boarding schools strictly forbid gadgets. in some schhools there are no electrical outlets in the dorms just to ensure that no student uses devices
Their families visit on Saturdays, twice a month. In case of an emergency, the house master or housemistress contacts the student's family on behalf of the student, or give their phone to the student for some minutes to talk to families. @@cassidyjewel3639
@@cassidyjewel3639they are not allowed to ,unless first Sunday of each month which is visiting day.but most students sneak phone to schools ,and when they are caught it get smashed right in front of them
We in my school in Germany have a “phone hall” where mostly 10 graders and up have lessons and only 11 graders and up can use their phone on FREAKING AIRPLANE MODE. All the other students under grade 10 have to have their phone turned off in their backpack. And if a teacher catches u using ur phone they can take it and at the end of the school day u can get it back at the secretary, but if it’s the second time that they catch u, ur parents have to come pick it up.
What country are you from? That sounds completely unimaginable. My school tried to force us to use these phone bags, but people found ways around it. Parents didn’t like not having access to their kids because the schools secretary, sometimes wouldn’t be there so nobody would pick up. It ended up being an expensive mistake.
Same...my school did not allow us to even bring phones to school. And someone was caught with a phone during surprise checking..the teacher would take away the phone. And the student would only get back the phone when they brought their parents with them to school to meet the principal.😅
It was like that at the high school I used to attend in England. I'm glad they were banned because it meant everyone actually talked and had fun rather than standing there like mindless drones on their phones.
In my school in Sweden (4th and 5th grade) we need to put our phones in a “phone locker” that only our teachers has the code to. And at the end of the school day we get our phone back. But in 1-3rd grade if we had phones they are only allowed outside of school which means that we couldn’t use our phones on the school yard or even on the buss.
I am an Indian and I attended a boarding school for 10 years. We were not allowed any kind of technology even smart watches into the campus area. For studies we could use the computers but all social sites were banned in them including instagram. And for talking to our parents we were given 15 minutes a month. I once was scolded for sending an email to my mother.
Sounds like a military academy. I'm from Sri Lanka btw. In my school only prefects, who are of our own age are allowed to bring phones to the school campus and still they're not allowed to use them during the teaching period. When we want to call someone, we just ask teachers or prefects for their phones, or we have payphones as well.
For us in UAE, in public schools it’s not allowed what so ever to have phones but a few private schools allow them and not in class only in break time and if you are caught with a phone in public schools it’s a big deal and the whole school would know about it
Thats stupid in my opinion, Its common practice in Czechia too but I think it should be even less restrictive. If you dont want to pay attention in the class it doesnt really matter if you have phone or not. So I think as long as u dont disrupt the class why shouldnt you be allowed to have phone ...
@@MrMajsterixx yeah, you are probably right but I think it probably also has something to do with it looking disrespectful. It just seems kinda rude to have someone or half of the class just focused on their phone while the teacher is talking idk. I myself am a student and am okay with the current phone rules my school has and nobody minds, sure some kids secretly check their phone in class but it happens rarely. Plus it is kinda rewarding ( idk how to say it without it sounding kinda weird) to be able to go on your phone after paying attention in class without any consequences of your phone getting confiscated. But on other hand if we were always allowed our phones in class they wouldn't really be special anymore and become normal and boring just like books which in turn Lowers the usage of phones in school if they can be used anywhere any time on school property, they just become kinda boring or normal like books (weird comparison I know). Like there is no thrill of secretly using it even though its against rules.
In germany we had a teacher that used to walk around with 2 STACKS of phones during our break. It was easily 25-30 phones every time. The students had to collect them infront of the teachers lounge after school and the damn hallway was so packed you were lucky if you waited 20 minutes to get your phone. 😂 good times.
I attended a private religious school in brooklyn; we had phone cubbies that you had to put your phone in at the beginning of the day and they took phone attendance and then locked it. If you said you left your phone at home, they would call your parents to double check, or you could allow a bag check
Even in my private school in Ghana I can’t even take my phone through the gate unless I am lucky enough to be granted permission and only on special occasions or events that I can, with permission 😢
I did foreign exchange in Spain and I hated how strict they were with phones. I couldn’t even be on them in the hallways or at lunch. In the US they’ve just given up, everyone is always on their phone there
I swear they allow brick phones? But yeah, it's well known that everyone carries a phone. If not in sight, it basically doesn't exist for our teachers 😂
Don't get it twisted. SOS-HGIC is a private international school affiliated with the SOS children's village organization we have more freedoms and amenities than most typical boarding schools and we pay the fees to match
I’m my school, before the day starts we have to put our phones in the phone locker. If we’re caught on it during the day, it get taken to the dean and he takes it for one day over night. If it’s the second time and on, it’s for a week.
In Greece the law states that phones should be prohibited during classes but many kids still use them and teaches don’t care. During the breaks we can use phones and no one says anything.
In Nigeria you are not allowed to use phone most times in most schools some classes are not allowed to use calculator. They believe you have to use all cells In your brain to think abd calculate!!!
I live in trinidad and in elematry school you have to bring it to the office and after school you can use it,but in highschool you can use it during lunch time and reses
At my school in America they say no phones at all and if they even see the phone, like if it's in your pocket, they were take it and tell you to bring it to the front office, I once got my phone taken because an unknown caller called me.
my schools like that with the middle schoolers, seriously they arent even allowed to use it to call parents if there is an issue. (which depending on what kind of situation it is I find ridiculous)
In my school in the Dominican Republic, primary school (1st-6th grade) aren’t Allowed to use phones, but some kids still use them; And in secondary school (7th-12th) we take them to the coordinator/ basically the principal for secondary. This is for my school specifically, a religious private school, I don’t know for public school or others, but I imagine it’s the same as primary school?
In France it depends on the grade. In middle school and everything lower, you can't use your phone. In high school you can use it everywhere except in class
In India phones are ABSOLUTELY BANNED in schools but i mean that didnt stop us from bringing them😅 In college its whatever u just cant have it ringing in the middle of class
Most schools in england phones are banned entirely especially if its a public school Though in my school specifically they dont care much in your final year
I am German and we do not have a phone zone. If you do use your phone, however, it will be marked in the class register and you don’t want many entries in there.
In the Netherlands some schools have banned phones, but students can keep their phones in lockers and some students have exeptions. I am very lucky that my school just has a "dont use your phone in class unless given permission" policy. It does get annoying when the rule is broken, but I am lucky to be able to use my phone for music bue to autism and sensory issuees
In Cameroon, phones are also banned in schools. If they catch you using a phone, the teacher/supervisor can confiscate it and summon your parents to retrieve it.
WHAT? in the philippines you can use your phone during school hours or when the teacher is not teaching, but you have to ask the teacher first if you can use your phone. Btw our teachers will mostly give us 90%plus(A+) grades as long as you're not always absent and our school starts in 7:30am-5:00pm(I'm one of the special student in our school) .
In US it’s teacher by teacher basis. A few teachers have a place to put phones at the start of every class, but most let us keep them and just say “don’t use it”. My school has no accessible wifi and no service anyway so I guess phones are pretty useless for google, texting, or social media.
In Guyana(my school), you can use your phone but not during classes. I'm in a private school so they threaten to take it away 💀 but they don't really do that. In certain grades, your phone is allowed.
I go to a private school in Germany and no teacher bothers with enforcing the no-smartphone rule. As long as you don't blare out loud music and manage to hide your phone semi-well, you can spend your entire school day playing games
Maybe not clear but she's in a private secondary school. In actual public secondary schools, being caught with a phone can result in the student facing disciplinary actions like being deboardenised.
My school in Australia doesn't let you go on your phone at all, if you completely walk out the gate onto the sidewalk to get your phone out you still get a suspension warning or a full on suspension because you aren't far away enough 💀
Im nsw (australia) they recently passed a (very annoying) thing that prohibits the use of phones and electronic devices unless a teacher specfically allows you to
We can't use our phones during the classes, but when there's no teacher in the class we can use them for some minutes. There's also times we need them during the classes (calling someone, searching, hearing music, etc) so teachers tell us a day before. We can use our phones in art class.
Technically phones are supposed to stay in lockers but I don’t know a single person who even knows where their locker is led alone keeping their phone in it, nobody enforces the rules so no one follows them.
In Norway if you have your phone with you to school you have to deliver it in a phone box on the teacher’s desk and if your last class isn’t with one of your contact teachers then you will have to go to the reception and say the class your in ( that’s how it works in middle school )
in India, I've been to 5 schools, till my higher secondary, we could never use a mobile in the school premises. But were allowed to carry one if we're going to school camping or any other camping events. The funny part is my college don't allow us to use mobile phone in the classroom. We have to submit our mobile phones to the department office, before we enter the classroom
In my old high school the teacher would tell us to get our phones out to take a photo of the board so she can erase it without waiting for all of us to type everything down That was like 10 years ago in Australia tho. They’d also let us listen to music while we work. It was a selective school as well so it’s really not about the phones, it’s about whether the students are motivated to learn
In Australia it's banned when your inside the school gates. First violation is a warning, second is after school detention and third is suspension. Crazy that they're suspending people for checking their notifications thrice.
In my Indian school, we werent allowed to bring phones or any electronic gadgets to school. But after the pandemic, they kind of just gave up lol since a lot of people snuck phones in. They did random bag checks and condiscated phones and stuff. But at the end they just made it that you can bring phone to school but need to report them to the staff room before class and can take it from there in the evening. That was more effective.
I live in Ontario, Canada and we cannot use phones during class hours (unless for emergencies) but we can use them during lunch or spares (free period)
In the UK phones are banned in school and if a member of staff sees it out it will be taken off you and you can get it back at the end of the school day
In my Irish Catholic school if ur caught with a phone EVER even at lunch or walking out of the school ur done for. No phones out on the school grounds at all💀
In Bhutan, where I studied all my life, phones are banned until for some hours during weekends. But i see a lot of changes happening now. The pandemic really has encouraged students to use phones for classes.
In China, most schools just ban students’ phones from campus, and you don’t want to be seen with a phone in school…but I suppose if u kept one in ur backpack and take it out when school ends you’ll be fine
We can only use it before or after school, and only near lockers for emergencies. We also cannot keep our phones in our pockets neither. I'm in Canada, but most schools don't have these types of rules, and allow usage of phone, anywhere anytime.
My school in America allows phones during non-instructional time which means lunch and passing period and before and after school. But we are not allowed headphones during school. But this is not the case for every American schools. Some do not allow phones at all in the building or some don’t allow phones until school is over.
Im from the Netherlands here we where fhirst allowed to have our phones in the hallway or in the cafeterias and stuff but when we stepped in to class we had to put our phones in a box by the door we could only take our phones out if the teacher allowed us to look something up But sinds the begging of 2024 theres a rule made by the government that no phones are allowed on shool grounds but some kids need there phones to travel to school so they then said you need to Either leave youre phone home ore put it in youre locker
we cant use our phones at all during the school day in australia, when the first bell goes your phone needs to go in your locker and leave it there until the day ends
Some schools in Brazil, specifically in the south state, accepts a law that bans phones on schools The high school I go to currently have a no phones in classroom, only during recess (with some exceptions) But a school I went to earlier (9th grade) you just COULD NOT have your phone on you, even during recess
I’m from the US and some teachers will take up phones during class but for the most part phones are allowed as long as they aren’t a distraction. Like, obviously if you’re on it during class and disturbing the class, there’s a good chance it’ll be taken, but other than that it’s mostly fine.
In Hungary phones got completely banned in elementary schools when I was in 5th grade around 12 years ago. Now they are trying to ban them in high schools too which doesn't make sense in my opinion because a lot of teens travel 20-30 km to get to school and they won't even be able to call anyone if they are in a situation where they need help or simply just need someone to pick them up because they missed the bus or something. I know that kids survived back in the day without phones but todays world is just way too dangerous to have them run around without their phones that they can use to call for help.
The Alaska Native Elders that serve on the school board for our school district have made a district wide rule to ban phones in school (since before 2020). Students turn in their phones in the office before class and pick them up after school.
In Bahrain girls schools, we’re not allowed to bring our phones at all unless we’re going on a field trip or on the days of the finals or when we have to do a presentation or something and if they caught you with your phone, they are going to take it for at least four days but in the boys schools they mostly allow phones but sometimes like the bad teachers take them and they will call your parents to come and take the phone, but it’s way less strict
In my private high school in Brazil you can use phones out of classes. But during lessons they usually had two ways to deal with phones: There was a box in the teachers desk, where you were obligated to put your phone in there. It was more of a school policy bc most of the teachers didn't really like having that box full of phones that could cost their entire house (it was a big class and some had iPhones). The other way is just the teacher saying please put your phone away if you want to pay attention. If you don't put it away, be quiet and don't come begging for good grades at the end of the year :)
In syria, phones are banned and you cannot use them nor even bring them to school and if you are caught then the phone will stay with the principal for the whole school year, but students bring and use phones even in class anyways.
So I live in a state where we can use our phones because we have a certain district law. You can use your phones at the end and the start of the Day but if a teacher disrespects you and tells you to put your phone away before or after the bell rings, you don't have to reason the bell rang
I'm a Malaysian. My school strictly prohibits phones and other stuff like makeup, cards, board games, and sharp pointed scissors. There's morning class for the peralihan, form 1,form 2 and afternoon class for form three to five.
When I went to secondary school (England) phones were entirely banned. When I went to college (16-18 yrs old) phones were only allowed outside of class, or when a teacher said you could use it for the lesson. Now that I’m in university, phones are allowed for every single lecture, but not in seminars, as using your phone in seminars is seen as rude.
