I will always watch your videos, because I feel you are family. I started growing plants to sell, but I am 77 and now wanting a big business. Thank you for what you do.
It’s exciting to see your growth. We started our nursery this year. We’ve spent the first few months acquiring plants and setting up our mist system and shade house. Your videos help keep us motivated. Thanks for what you do.
Y'all are such a blessing! You’ve helped to inspire us to set up our own nursery... thank you for going through how to do this... I never knew where to start... we certainly appreciate you and just want Y'all to know that God is using Y'all to help others! Blessing ❤
I really look forward to watching new videos when they come out. I love seeing the progress of your nursery and you're down to earth ways of explaining things. Keep up the success.
I just love your channel all of you are so down to earth I don't see your heads getting bigger as so many have. There's been times I've learned something new or a easier way to do things. Your channel is just a joy to watch and the children are just a pleasure to see
Love your videos and your outlook on life whether personal or professional. Hope some of the ideas, in the comments below, are helpful to help you with some Fall projects. Happy Father's Day Craig!!
I wish I knew the gates were open. I would have stopped by on my cross country road trip. I crossed you off my must stop list after you said you closed for season. You guys are awesome! And inspiring. My plants survived my long road trip, phew!
You guys are very good at what you do. You will be more than fine. P.S. it will be interesting to see how the views go on videos in off season months. During winter, I am watching all sorts of gardening/farming videos because it's too cold to be outside and it is a great time to do research on different plants and techniques and ideas...
❤ I AM A GRANDMA THAT LOVES GRADERING AND GROW SOME OF MY FOOD. AND I THANK YOU CAUSE I STARTED MAKING SOME MONEY FROM THAT AFTER WATCHING YOUR. VERY HELPFUL VIDEOS. I AM IN TEXAS.THANK AGAIN❤❤
First thing I do when I click on your videos is look at the subscribers. It's growing so fast! Well deserved and awesome family. Looking forward to the next video. And I do watch / double task those ads that's 30 seconds or less😊😂
We sell baked goods, almost year round, at our little nursery. It helps. We do a honor bake stand. Love watching your videos.Y'all are amazing. We are in Georgia and can't wait to come shop one day! Love your business model. Thanks for all you share.
You guys are in Florence? Somehow I missed that until the Google map popped up in the video. I teach horticulture at Snead State in Boaz. The next time I am on the west side of the state I would love to see your nursery. You guys are doing awesome!!
Great video. Just another idea to keep your customers coming. Any farms around you? Hay bales and corn stalks for fall. Just a thought. Great job savvy family. Teamwork.
Great idea. We grow fall decor crops and hold an annual event. I absolutely love growing pumpkins, gourds, cornstalks, and winter squash. Might be another income stream option for you.
I enjoy your channel very much. Your honesty and ability to teach all of us the do’s & dont’s of a nursery business and the hard work it takes to accomplish your goals is extremely valuable to lots of people out here. I would definitely watch a channel of living simply and debt free. I thank you very much for sharing with us all you have shared! If you make money doing that, that’s even better! Congratulations on your first spring season with the nursery & wishing you continued success! 😊♥️
I am new to your videos but found immediately useful information to help my burgeoning farm produce more than would have been possible over summer with my Arapahoe Blackberries. I sell most berries to a local winery and demand continues to rise. Thanks Y'all. Keep up the good work.
I just wanted to let y'all know that y'all are a consistent inspiration and I love the videos. I am a landscape designer out of Lubbock, Texas and it's been a dream of mind to open a nursery/garden center. Watching y'all as definitely inspired me to make that move. Looking forward to seeing more videos!
I am so happy to have ran across your videos! We previously lived in coverdale area. My in laws & husband's family still live in the shoals area. I have shared your site with them as they purchase every year & beautiful landscape. We live in south alabama now & can't wait to order soon.
I ordered 120 + plants from Hartmann Plant company in Michigan. I was more than pleased with the size and quality of their blueberry plants. Shipping was reasonable to California. I ordered mostly blueberries with a few elderberries and 10 thornless blackberries. I know you are getting plants to resell from places you can drive to but this might be an alternative.
thank you for sharing your journey it is refreshing you are more about sharing than just selling a product yes we all have to support our selves we are in the the process of starting our own small nursery and market garden focusing on compost, worm casting that we harvest from our composting worms and wood chips all natural products that the good lord provides thank you chuck ledbetter east central oklahoma yes the inspiration for the nursery portion came from watching your videos
I’m glad I got to see y’all on opening day and come back by a few times I’m still rooting for you and look forward to you when you open up again full swing
As you say, you're learning as you go about your nursery. It's not easy being a 3 season maybe 4 season business. But you have a smart approach. Not buying a 1000 plants when 200/300 will do. You want a selection not inventory. You may already do this but ask your customers what type of plants they would be interested in for the fall. Maybe look into selling bulbs. Your family is great. Keep the videos coming.
Love the videos that you put out. I look forward to every one. Especially love the vision you have for your nursery and that you are cash flowing everything. Cash Is King!!!
Once again, an inspiring video of the real day to day, how do we pay the bills video. I have learned A LOT from your whole family and your path has encouraged me and my family to branch out, spread out our curtains towards a new season in our lives. "Slow and steady" everyday I do something towards being ready for next Spring. 🌱 Today, my family and I are planning out the placement for the sign and what needs to be done. Savvy Farner, I think one of the best advices you have said in reference to RU-vid, is "Treat it like a business". It does take time to stop, record, know what you want to share, edit, and do again the next week. Wide advice I remember as I set my course and steps with getting it all done each week. Sharing our passion for plants and what the future can hold for ourselves and our families. 🌱 "And old men shall dream dreams"... again, all of what can be..."Young men shall have vision." God bless you abundantly. 🌱🌳💚
Another great video, so important to have your whole foamily involved in the business. You children will learn so much about life working in the business along side you.
I enjoy your videos and watching your growth. You have given me a lot to think about. I love to grow and propagate plants so a nursery kinda seems like a next step. I do live in a very cold region of the country so I wonder if a nursery would be possible. We'll see, I guess.
Great video of everything the makes up your business. I know you’ve brought in several new varieties this season, is there a plant that your customers have been asking for that you never would have considered prior to them asking about? Have a great Father’s Day Craig!
People have asked about many plants, but one clearly more than any other... lantana. Since I had never done annuals before, I didn;t even know what it was. I bought a few flats and they all sold the first day, and that was all I needed to know. I'll have TONS of them next Spring.
@@savvydirtfarmer Ya. I know. We did it poorly 2 years ago. The deer nibbled them, and they didn't grow near big enough so I couldn't sell them at the price I had hoped.
@@savvydirtfarmer decided not to grow them the last couple years. The plugs we ordered looked really good it was our growing practices that needed improved. Protect better from deer, Fertilizer injector, drip irrigation or warblers, and proper pruning.
Thanks for sharing your journey. Considering starting a retail location and I’m curious about how many people live in your trade area? Say like a five mile radius of your Nursery?
I have a good population within 20 miles... probably 100k in that range. That said... it doesn't matter. It REALLY doesn't matter. Every week, people drive here from 20, 50, 100+ miles away. Real plant buyers are just different. Buying plants is an outing, an adventure, or a mission to them. Taking a trip out to your place in the country is fun! Obviously, I don't know if that's you or not, but your question seems to come as if you are concerned whether or not there are enough people around... there are.
I am thinking about starting something like this and not sure where to start and when and what to start. What order does this go in, I hope this makes sense.
Once your nursery is up and running, can you ever take a vacation? I would like to be able to visit my daughter a few times a year. How do you leave and ensure the plants don't die?
Absolutely! Put your irrigation on timers, and/or have someone come check on things once a day. In winter, no irrigation is needed for weeks at a time, even with no rain. Just takes a little planning... getting away is no problem.
I first heard of your channel on a podcast I was listening to. Loved the podcast, love your content. It has helped me start up my own channel, hope mine can grow your likes has!
@@savvydirtfarmer my channel is The LowCo Homesteader. I've started the majority of my "food forest" from seeds and cuttings. I have been fairly successful so far in starting plants and even grafting. I have plans to scale a little nursery up and your channel has been a help! Thanks for the reply! Love your channel.
Do not discount the fall season, lots of ppl plant during the fall. Are you growing pumpkins? People love to decorate with pumpkins in the fall. Trees & shrubs are planted a lot during the fall! Can’t wait to see how things transpire throughout the rest of the season! 😊♥️
I assure I'm not "discounting" it, but it's not as easy to dive into head first as the Spring is. Locating what I need is proving to be difficult. I'll do something though... just gotta figure out what. Pumpkins and all that are not in the cards right now.
I think got a great deal on one gallon pots from AM Leonard 450 for about 100 bucks. But it’s seems like 3 and 5 gal pots way way more expensive, and ideas.
No. PPAF means "assume this plant is patented." It's a hard rabbit hole to go down to find out if that actual plant's patent application has been approved. Or it could be an older label and the patent was actually approved a year ago. I just move on. There are plenty of great plants that aren't patented.
Yes. Seems like about 10% of youtube viewers have premium. The price you pay for it goes partially to youtube and partially to creators, as does all ad revenue.
maybe now that i have a huge chance that my ssi will be approved i will be able to get a credit card and buy plants from u...It is sad to see that people and business do not want to work with people that does not have credit cards accepting a secure USPS money order...we are been discriminated in that sense...sad isn't?
I wouldn't automatically assume that's discrimination. If someone showed up here with a "secure USPS money order," I'm not even sure I would know what it was. We take cash and cards, occasionally a check. That's not discrimination.
@@savvydirtfarmer i respect your intake for that but when u are systematicly decline when u want to pay with USPS (government issue) money order that is discrimination...segretating a small group of the population for not having a checking account nor a credit card is real as u and I. By the way do not feel bad u are not the only one that reject my way of payment.. segregation is discrimination and choosing only those customer that can pay cash, paypal or credit card is what? I know that is a business thing but even business have policies to segregate, pick and choose, get rid off, etc. of certain part of the population. Think about, discuss this with your family, see the input they have, place yourself in my shoes ...how the same situation will make you feel if you want to buy something and u do not have a credit card nor a checking account nor a family member that will buy it for you...?
@@lolitabonita08 I live in the country. I recently visited a large city where NO ONE took cash. AT ALL. NONE. I always prefer to pay cash and when I am out in town, I always have it with me. But not one time did it even cross my mind that I was being discriminated against in that city. Instead, I thought, "I need to either leave and get over it, or prepare myself better to pay digitally." "Discrimination" is a pretty serious accusation against anyone, and, as such, requires some pretty substantial evidence to back it up. Does my business need to be as easy to work with as possible? Sure. And, I think it is. Can I accommodate every possible individual out there with unconventional circumstances? No. I've had people come here who are grossly overweight and can hardly get around. I've had people who hate my dog. People who have sun allergies. People who don't have any money but want plants anyway. But... I can't pave the whole place, am not going to keep my dog penned up, can't shade the sun, and can't find a way for them to have more money. I simply can't accommodate every issue. Money orders? Again, 800+ customers this Spring and not one person has mentioned it. So, if I'm ignorant about them, so be it, but it's not discrimination. I'm done. Have a nice day.
There is. There's a grower 5 miles from me who does the whole "pumpkin farm" fall deal with his thousands of mums. No way he'd sell plants to me at a reasonable price. If I were him, I wouldn't.
