If you go back you should look at the legacy mains system in rural towns. Some stuff looks straight out of 1960's USA infrastructure with a bit of clever innovation. It blew up my phone's power supply though.

This brought back a lot of memories. I spent several months there and got to see a lot of the country. So clean and so safe, very nice people. Very crowded though. Riding a bus was like sardines standing up in the can. Literally in contact with 6 other people. But no concerns about pick pockets, thieves or even just creepy people. All major cities had an underground, much like another city underground with street and shops. Sort of like a huge shopping mall of sorts. All foot traffic other than some authorities and emergency equipment that had essentially specialized golf carts. I was in many of the places he went to and it's just an amazing country. Kyoto is somewhat unique in that it was deliberately spared during WW2. Many ancient buildings and temples, winding little streets little shops and businesses everywhere, Just an awesome place and it's just an incredible place to visit.
