Dude separate it their killing it, you've raised chickens enough to know that blood to chickens is like blood to piranhas.

Chicken may have been injured, while at the back, when you pulled the chicken tractor along.

Blue coat is an antiseptic solution used on animals. If chickens see red, they will keep pecking it.

BlueKote is not advised for animals that will be consumed by humans. Lifetime egg withdrawl and the meat cannot be consumed. Causes cancer in humans. Look it up online.

I was using that , but found out it is not meant to be used on chickens if you are going to eat them or use their eggs. It has cancer causing ingredients.

Exactly! ..when chickens see blood, they tend to attack. They are definitely brutal. Instinctive need to get rid of what they think to be a weak link in the flock.

Getting ready to get probably 40 meat birds, Cornish Cross for the 1st time. Gotta build a tractor, I guess we’ll see? I actually like the fact they’re ugly so they’re easier to kill! Unlike ALL our cool pet chickens we love!

We started duel birds three years ago after raising Cornish for three years prior.. Only one time was it a pleasure and had to be from where the farm hatched them.. The rest disgusting... :(. Our duel breeds take longer to grow out but less hassle, less stress, less disgust....

We are raising 16 american bresse right now with a few lucky hens being saved from freezer camp. The great thing about bresse is they are known for their meat but also can lay up to 250+ eggs a year. Pretty solid do all bird.

I've seen loads of homestead channels in raise them and like you I don't like it they don't look good or happy I'm glad you and your wife will stop, alot of homesteaders say its about quality of food and life of there animals but still raise cornish cross .Well done

That needs Blue Koat stat. The color red or the sight of blood sets chickens off and they will keep pecking at that sore and possibly kill it.

There is a spray that you can put on your chicken's wound which color is it blue so the other chickens will not peck at it. If chickens see red or see blood they will peck at it and peck at it and peck at it. You may want to keep an eye out because that chick may not survive if it stays around the other chickens. I recommend getting the bluing spray.

Just four out blue kote is really bad for meat or laying chickens. It has carcinogens that cause cancer dnd have a lifetime egg / meat withdrawal.

Cornish cross put on weight faster thern any other breed of chicken 6 to 8 weeks. They were bred to do this on less feed also. They do have health problems if you raise them for a longer period of time. They are bred for that. The best meat bird out there.

I am very interested in seeing what kind of meat you get off the pigs. I finally got rid of all my pigs but i miss raising them and I want to go with a smaller breed. I was going to go with Mangalitsa but if the meat you get from the Kunekune is sufficient and good, I may get them instead. Thanks for sharing Tom! Hope all is well! God bless!

You don't leave an injured bird like that with the others. The other chicks will kill it and given their numbers it won't have a chance. Chickens are meat eating predators and are also prey. They will kill what they perceive as a weakened chick as they see it as a threat to the flock that will attract predators. This has nothing to do with them being Cornish Cross... I have near 2 year old FRs, 16 month old Big Red Broilers and 13 weeks old CXs that I'll be crossing in order to create a heritage breed... they are all doing well and acting like normal chickens given the chance, they just happened to think they are hungry all the time. As long as they are on a feed scheduled they live long happy lives. My FRs and Big Reds also happen to be egg laying rock stars, dropping 3-4 a day with a 2 egg day every few weeks.

it could of been sleeping too close to the edge of the coop and a Racoon reached it but didn't kill it. I have seen a chick that bad, live and scab over. then I was able to harvest it with the rest of them. I switched to American Bresse chickens

2 years ago we started raising Cornish cross. 1 month into the experience, I found American Bresse. I bought 11 from a farmer. Fast forward now, we had a 1 year old rooster who was aggressive, the most juiciest chicken ever. Now we hatch our own American Bresse and are never going back to Cornish cross. Even though American Bresse takes 4 months minimum, I don't care. They look beautiful, they don't stink, they roost, they forage and are good egg layers as well. The color yield , I don't even understand why they invented the breed. Commercial hatcheries will do anything just to keep you in their bandwagon. The Cornish cross were 2.50$ two years ago, now they are 3+$. It adds up. The American Bresse are 10$ , but you start your own hatchery with an Amazon incubator and you know your bird is not poked for anything

Spray blue Kote on it. The others will violently peck at the red on its neck because they are attracted to red/blood. You'll be down one tomorrow morning. Cc are genetically modified. It is sad. We're thinking about doing the American Bresse. Meanwhile we pasture raise the CC. I enjoy watching your videos

However it got hurt, the wound needs to be cleaned and a little triple antibiotic ointment put on it. That's the least. And she was right about chickens pecking the color red: that's why many feeders are red.

We are currently raising Cornish cross birds and I’m feeling really bad for them. They aren’t natural at all! I believe we will switch to the American Bresse chickens. Heard so much good information about them. They will lay eggs and, if you have a rooster, we can get our own meat birds. I believe it’s 14-16 weeks to grow them out but it’s natural.

I’m trying Sagitta it is a dual purpose bird that is a cross between a Rhode Island Red, New Hampshire Red and Cornish Cross. I am raising up 12 males for the table and then 5/1 for a breeding flock. I really didn’t want the CC is they creep me out! It’s just not natural for them. I want to be self sufficient and that is not a breed I can keep for years to come!

I would have definitely put blue kote on that chicken, it's probably not going to make it. As far as cornish cross goes, I'm not keen to raise them either. They make me sad to look at with the lack of feathers and less than quality of life no matter how well you care for them. I've got a number of different kinds I'm considering from American Bresse to Jersey Giants but no idea yet what I'll get when I have the land for it. Definitely not cornish cross tho

Yes, kudos on getting away from the unhealthy breed. Keeping them happy is always the best food to keep us happy too, you are what you eat. I just want heritage birds, even the meat turkeys seems sad to raise. Heartbreaking when they’re so sweet and asking for help too. Will be heartbreaking again when they’re full grown and too old. Idunno how bad our heritage Tom will feel when he loses his hens, but I never wanted to do that to him. My brain on seeing this title was filling in the reasons WHY …because a vegan commenter convinced yall to go veg?!? Just kidding. Haha. To all the people saying that injured chick will be killed, or that it got hurt during the tractor move 3:17 it was already hurt the first day, and the others were still being fine with it for another day. Accidents happen and we don’t always know why, yes it would be safest to keep separated BUT ya’ll were looking at how it was getting along and making the decision has pros and cons.

Bird was injured and ganged up on by the other chickens. Would have happened for any breed. Been raising Cornish crosses for 5 years now, our birds are always happy up till the day they hit the freezer. They look 'unhealthy' because they outgrow their feathers but it doesn't make them an unhealthy bird. We've tried other breeds for meat but it wasn't worth it in the end cause they take longer, take more feed and are not as good. Just my two cents.

This is our first time doing meat chickens. 11 weeks in, American Bresse. The bresse roosters are killing each other. Terrible, bloody, aggressive experience. We were thinking of doing the CC after these bresse, to compare the experience, but yours look SO gross, I think you have dissuaded us from trying! We really don't know what to do at this point. The closest thing to a decision is to keep a bresse rooster and two hens and hatch eggs as needed. But raising the roos to processing age has been bloody miserable.
