Filipino American here. My experience visiting the Philippines in 2016, the 1st thing I noticed when landing in the airport is a big sign "It's more fun in the Philippines." I was there for 2 &1/2 weeks, and the experience I had in the short vacation changed my outlook in life for the good. Went back in 2018 in a different province, and really felt the beauty and nature of the Philippines. I really learned more about myself on this trip, that you can make life simple filled with positivity, and you don't need to keep up with the Jones's. Was planning to go back in 2020, but Covid happened. Hopefully end of 2020 or early 2021, the country opens up. The term it's more fun in the Philippines is true, but I would say it's more of "a journey that teaches you a lot, and you experience a lot more than what you've expected."

A foreigner visiting or even staying in the Philippines for an extended stay will NEVER have a sense of permanent despair while living in the Philippines. For that reason, it is easy for them to see the beauty of the country. In comparison, poor Filipinos will always feel hopelessness in their plight, thus making it hard to appreciate the country for what it is. Just my take.
@kawaiiafangirl
@kawaiiafangirl 3 года назад
@@beaglesrfun5896 True. I'm Filipino myself and I think that most Filipinos still have a colonial mentality when it comes to foreigners appreciating our country. The land and the people of the Philippines are beautiful but there are things such as poverty, lack of jobs, corruption, and a relatively high crime rate (for SEA and East Asian standards) that aren't beautiful. Jessica obviously has love for the Philippines and spent most of her life there so I'm not knocking her at all. However, I just know that Filipinos would support her videos more than our own kind but blame it on Filipinos not appreciating our own culture.

Mostly those Filipinos who doesn't know about how other country's culture and just see the good things (in their thoughts) are the one who are so keen in living the country. Things that are so rare in other countries which are so norms here in our country are people connection, positivity, more laid back life, kindness and superb hospitality. Although there are many negative issues here in our country, it's still not that much of a challenge compare to other countries.
@junxlopez5916
@junxlopez5916 3 года назад
@James Henry Smith That's what we know since we have means to see it with our own eyes or have watched it over the internet or have learned about it from someone from those countries. But for poor Filipinos, those things often times will never learn about it or will never cross their minds. Since the only comparison that they are seeing is between their lives and the lives of visiting foreigners, that's why they feel hopeless and yearn to leave the country thinking that better life is out there.

Also I didn't think the smaller stuff would really stand out as a memorable experience for foreigners living here. Good thing I was really close with my korean friends in high school, I was their commanding officer during our C.A.T. days. We never really talked about like were from different cultures we just interact like normal teenagers back then. Was really glad we showed them love through their stay and helped them prepare for the real military experience in Korea.

This video is so very heartwarming. My 9 year old niece watching this with me says she wanted to cry. We're Filipino-Americans. And we're in the Philippines now. We're mixed Filipino Chinese ethnically and alot of my mom's side looks Chinese. I, on the other hand, was very dark and deemed "ugly" growing up. Bullied too. I'm glad the world is definitely becoming a better place now and bullying is not allowed in many schools. Our neighbor, also my niece's classmate, is Filipino-Korean and we love them so much. They're like sisters. She misses her alot. They have online classes together. One of my best friends in Florida is a Korean-American. Pastor's kid. And she's an inspiration to me. I also met Korean exchange students there and they're so very kind. Memories that definitely sticks with me. My niece is scheduled to move back to America soon and we were talking about how beautiful the skies are in the Philippines. I'm so glad you guys noticed that too. I mean, I loved the skies in Florida and California. I even enjoyed it sometimes in Chicago. But the skies in the Philippines are just so beautiful. Truly dreamy. It's so very nice to hear your stories. Philippines has developed quite alot in the past decade and plans to continue developing. I just hope we keep all the good things that made you guys love this country. The emotional connections and the warmth and kindness. You guys are also Filipino in our eyes and our hearts. 😘❤️💕💞🥰

I really wanted to have a korean friend like you guys, Why? Because I know how much you appreciate the Philippines and Filipinos. I can feel the real "kababayan" vibe with you than "other/some" filipinos. And we have almost the same age generation. I'm a 22 y.o filipina. I hope, I can be one of your friend even if it's just "virtual" friend🥺🤍 More power Jessica!♥️

I am glad that your years spent in the Philippines are mostly filled with happy memories. Although, there are some who are not, majority of the Filipinos really have a good heart and would always give a warm smile no matter if you just met for the first time or not. As a Filipino citizen, I sincerely apologize to all of you who experienced bullying and racist remarks. I honestly want to blame lack of education, cultural difference, and ignorance as the causes, but there's really no excuse for bullying and racism. There are people like us who love koreans (and other people from different nationalities and races). We love you girls! 😊 thank you for liking our country despite your negative experiences. ❤️

I was in Taegu, Korea for a year on my remote assignment in USAF. I had a great time and loved it there. Filipinos and Koreans have great, genuine affection for each other in my opinion, except basketball. In my case only good memories and sometimes sorrow for the loved one I lost.

I really enjoyed this video. It made me smile and happy hearing all the positive and kind things you guys had to say about the Philippines. It's nice knowing there are foreigners out there who love the Philippines enough to consider it their 2nd home. It's a shame about your experiences with racism and bullying though. I feel so bad, i'm sorry you guys went through that, some people are just so ignorant and insensitive... But I'm glad the positives outweigh the negatives of your life experiences in the Philippines! Thanks for sharing them with us! I'm looking forward to the next video. Btw, you guys are really pretty! :)

It's very important to hear those things you know because it's open up a discussion that even Philippines is known for its kind, full of love people. There's a people here that makes a bad thing like being racist or something. I hate to think that many Filipino are like that. I'm very sorry for you guys to experiencing that here in the Philippines. I hope many people will see your videos to make a change that there's no room for racism not only in our country but the entire world. I really felt that you have a heart of Filipino. I am very hopeful for you all - the young generation. The world is really getting smaller, and hopefully, people are getting more connected. When I left the Philippines in 2000 to move permanently to US, I wasn't at all aware of the Korean population. I guess some Korean businessmen ventured the Philippines the beginning of the new millennium. It's very interesting the connection thru food, music and culture. I hope that after the pandemic, you ladies can go back to the Philippines. It's also my wish as I last visited my family in 2019.
