What's interesting is that I saw many Koreans easily pick up Tagalog context easily. How I wish we can learn Korean as fast as you guys can learn ours.

Actually korean is easier for filipinos to learn than other foreigners due to similarities in sound and accent in many words (when romanized) lke " ka, nida, ara, sarang, saram", etc.

We also used Spanish numbers, specially when buying in sari sari store and paying in jeepney and counting time. Ex. Tag kinse, trese, dos, dose, sais, siyete. Time/Oras: 1:00= Ala una 2:00= Alas Dos 6:00= Ala sais It is half past two= Alas-dos y medya 1 Uno 2 Dos 3 Tres 4 Kuatro 5 Singko 6 Sais 7 Siyete 8 Otso 9 Nuwebe 10 Diez

wow this has really inspired me to learn the language. Growing up in Canada as a Filipino, i never spoke tagalog. But i can understand it a little. So reading along, there's moments of discovery that just taps into the recess of my memory. I feel like i can pick this up real quick. Any online learning you can recommend?

i believe that the best way to learn any kind of language is learn the basic and simple sentences or words that you use on a daily basis.like gising na, kain na, magligpit kana (kinainan or higaan), aalis na tayo, etc.

Ate Sylvia, Just a tip and a trick to add lang po. t plus iy/y turns into "ch" Example: -tiyan/tyan (belly/stomach), we actually pronounce this as "chan" d plus iy/y turns into "j" Example: -padiyak/padyak (to kick), we actually pronounce this as "pajak" s plus iy/y turns into "sh" Examples: -kasiya/kasya (fitting, not too tight, not to loose), we really pronounce this as "kasha" We do not have this but might as well add to the logic: z plus iy/y turns into "zh"

Very good great improvement. You have a good teacher too. Associating words with words that's familiar with you is a good technique to learn new words. I say singing is a good way to learn also.

I think Sylvia needs to know the pattern for adding the various prefixes, infixes, and suffixes to the various Tagalog root words. Example: Paypay = fan; pamaypay = something to fan with; pinaypay = fanned something; pinapaypay = is fanning something; etc. Learning the pattern of conjugating Tagalog words will help her understand why some vowels are made the way they are.
